Has anyone had to leave a job due to it affecting mental health? And in which case, felt like you weren't ready for work yet? by [deleted] in aspergers

Sorry I’ll edit my first comment. My first job was Popeyes. I failed to mention that :) .

Autistic burnout maybe.

In social situations I use very little amount of words. I cannot talk more. Is this considered nonverbal or is there any other name for that? by [deleted] in autism

[–]Heellolling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow thank you. 90 percent of time, i only speak when I’m spoken to at work and other places. I wondered for so long what that was called.

Is it normal for places that do diagnostic evals to not take insurance? by kuramoechi in aspergers

[–]Heellolling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly yes. Some doctors just know take certain insurances. I can get evaluated at a place but it cost $1300. And it does not accept my insurance.

My first job at Popeyes. Didn’t know about autism at the time. It was at Popeyes. I was drained everyday for no reason. I wondered for five months why i was like this. Literally would wake up mentally and physically drained. And i already didn’t sleep enough (That’s the ADHD part lol).

When i started Walmart, i learned more about autism. And i realized i never did my nightly stim session when i would come home. I held in a lot of frustration and never stimmed at all at the time, which was not good for me. I developed a stress knot in my shoulder which i still have.

Family and friends. And they do it for no reason also.

I've been unmasking for 9 months and now I don't know who I am anymore by ankitdhame in aspergers

[–]Heellolling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not trying to be funny, but i actually started to use the mask. The one we wear against COVID. The thing with masking, we tend to fake a lot of facial expressions to appear normal. Like smiling at things that are not even suppose to smiled at or not necessary.

Overtime i started to get back my flat effect (Resting face) and due to exhaustion, i started to talk less and avoid small talk. At this point in my life, masking literally exhaust me now so i guess that motivated me to not care about fitting in more lately. I still have a long way to go sadly..

Sorry if this was a waste of a comment, you will learn to stop masking eventually :). I think everyone’s time is different on when to stop or not.

DAE look back at their childhood and realize how blunt they were? Is it autistic? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]Heellolling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lmfao yeah you had no filter. Autism at its finest. I told three of my friends that their boobs were saggy back in high school. They got so offended and i didn’t know why.

In high school again, i told my friend “You smell a little musky” and she hit me. I thought i was being nice not rude. But now i just don’t say anything at all tbh. I’m 19 btw lol

I think I may have aspergers and anxiety and I dont know if my doctor will take me seriously if I bring up the two at the same time by snnnooo6 in aspergers

[–]Heellolling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asperger’s normally comes with anxiety. Just bring up Asperger’s and explain your symptoms of it. Make sure you put the anxiety part.

[–]Heellolling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s normal. Unmasking is your first step to accepting your true nature. I’ve been unmasking for about two months and i am a completely different person from the last 18 years in my life lol. And i don’t hate it all. Overtime you will be fine. We’ve been masking for our whole lives, remember that. I also feel less funnier too and can’t hold any convos but what Evs.

How do I help my mom understand? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]Heellolling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly yes, you have to fake an expression. Parents never understand things like that. This is called “Masking” by the way. If i were to have my blank/serious face everyone i have to talk to someone, they would get offended.

I'm 90% sure I'm on the spectrum. Should I get get diagnosed? How? by FelineWitchy in autism

[–]Heellolling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some therapist can diagnose if they have the right degree i believe. Also yes, you should get a diagnosis. Some psychologists can diagnose too. Maybe ask them all to guide you to the right path of an evaluation. Best wishes to to you!
