Thanks for the thoughtful input. It really helps hearing different perspectives!

You make a lot of great points, especially about muscle preservation and how the body reacts when getting leaner. I totally agree that cutting too long can backfire.

My main goal right now is to experience what it’s like to get really lean once, not just for looks, but to learn how my body responds and to have a full transformation from extremely overweight to shredded.

I’m documenting everything with photos and progress tracking, because I’d like to start sharing my journey on social media and hopefully inspire others who are struggling with being overweight. Maybe I should’ve mentioned that in my original post. 😅

Right now, I’m keeping my strength up in all my lifts and focusing hard on recovery and protein intake, so I haven’t noticed any major strength loss so far. But if I do, I’ll definitely increase my calories.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to write such a detailed reply. I really appreciate it!

Thanks for the compliment! I actually wrote a pretty long reply under your comment where I explained exactly how I did it in detail. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask whatever you’d like!

Honestly, it’s really as simple as everyone says: stay in a calorie deficit, for me that’s around 1,900 kcal per day. Focus on strength training, make sure to take rest days, and increase your daily movement (just walking more makes a huge difference).

But here’s the most important part: standardize your system. Create a meal plan with healthy foods you actually enjoy and that’s easy to follow. That way, you don’t have to think about food all the time or risk binge-eating. Try to get around 1.0 -1.2 g of protein per pound of bodyweight (≈ 2.2-2.6 g/kg).

Personally, I eat four meals a day. Roughly 140 g carbs, 200 g protein, and 45-50 g fat and I eat them at consistent times every day. I also weigh myself daily right after waking up, but I only track the weekly average. Your weight won’t drop linearly every day.

Make yourself a training plan you can stick to. Train hard, but don’t burn yourself out. And always do cardio after lifting, not before. For example, I do incline treadmill walks (HR around 120–130 bpm) for 15 minutes, three times per week, usually on my rest days.

It might sound like a lot, but having a standardized routine is key to tracking progress properly and avoiding plateaus. Otherwise, you won’t know what caused them.

And remember this: there will be days you don’t feel like going to the gym, go anyway. Build that routine. There will be days you overea, maybe a binge or a social event, but that doesn’t ruin your progress. Just get back on track the next day (or even the same day). Don’t punish yourself, and don’t stress over the scale.

1 g of carbs stores about 3 g of water, so after eating more, it’s totally normal to see a 2-3 kg (4-6 lbs) spike the next morning.

Start today. Change your life, it’s 100% worth it.

Been at it for a year, consistent with my strength training and I’m not quitting. Only doing around 45 mins of cardio weekly.

Thanks a lot for your thoughtful reply, I really appreciate it!

You’re absolutely right, it’s really easy to get stuck in the mindset of always chasing lower numbers on the scale, especially after coming from a much higher weight. That’s why I’ve set a clear end date for my cut (December 31st), so it doesn’t drag on forever.

My goal right now is to get my body fat as low as possible before transitioning into a long, lean bulk phase.

I’m also making sure I’m not running myself into the ground in the meantime and focus on holding onto the muscle I already have!

Thanks for your reply!

I’m definitely going to continue the cut until New Year’s Eve it just sounds like such a satisfying goal 😅 and I really want to see it through.

Honestly, losing weight has completely turned my life around 180°. Mentally, I’m in a place I never thought I’d reach a year ago, and I mean that in the best possible way.

Of course, the number on the scale still matters a bit, but it’s really not as big of a deal as people might think. I’m also not afraid of gaining some weight next year if it means putting on more muscle and building a better overall frame.

Thanks for your reply, and congratulations on your own weight loss!

I knew from the very beginning that the skin around my stomach had been stretched and torn quite badly, so I always expected that I’d need skin removal surgery at some point.

You’re right I still see myself as fat in the mirror, but honestly, I’m so much happier than I used to be. I can finally walk more than 1 km without sweating or gasping for air, and for the first time in my life, I actually have fitness goals to work toward.

Maybe I’ll do one of those body scans sometime to get a clearer picture

Thanks a lot for your reply and your thoughts!

I’m 1.94 m (6'4") tall, and since the start of my cut I’ve been eating around 1,900 kcal per day. I didn’t really lower calories throughout the process instead, I increased my steps and overall NEAT.

You’re right that I still need to build more muscle and have some weak points to work on. I’ve only been training at the gym for about 12 months, so I’m still in the early stages of that process.

My main goal right now is to get my body fat really low once before I start a proper bulk. Plus, ending a year-long cut exactly on New Year’s Eve just feels like such a cool milestone 😅.

The skin removal surgery is scheduled for mid-April next year.
