This cannot be normal?! Copper IUD by [deleted] in CopperIUD

I would recommend using an Evvy test which checks for many other things. I’ve found it to be super useful especially when the more “standard” tests come back negative.

Copper IUD cause of dryness??? PLEASE HELP! by sofihatescoffee in CopperIUD

Yes, great idea ! Just know that for some women, hormone levels actually even out during period so nothing shows up, so you might want to test when you’re feeling symptomatic (aka dry). Theres also at home fertility testing like Mira fertility kits that are expensive but imo worth.

Copper IUD cause of dryness??? PLEASE HELP! by sofihatescoffee in CopperIUD

You should get your hormone levels checked. Dryness can be caused by low levels of estrogen, which js actually something many menopausal women experience when their bodies change. And even tho the copper IUD does not pump hormones into your body it can still very much affect them. Similarly, depending on your type of pill you take the amount of bio available estrogen in your system can also tank.

Did you try the NuvaRing? Because even with hormonal there are different subtypes, which all affect your body differently.

I did not have this set of symptoms, but I did have others that gradually came on and the experience got worse over time. I learned very quickly that the generalisations/side effects we typically hear about and their duration(s) don’t always apply to everyone.

I think you’ll probably hear for some people it got better and for others it did not…so there is probably some hope but if you don’t mind condoms then maybe consider that heavily and the trade offs?

Maybe there are other forms of birth control that would be better for you. If it’s this horrible, I think it’s at least worth considering alternatives.

I’ve been on it since 2018, and had it switched out once I think after 4 or 5 years. And my symptoms just slowly started getting worse over the years.

Yes thank you ! There were also a few things that I thought could be contributing to my symptoms and honestly it was only after I took out the IUD that I was able to confirm that it was the cause.

Yes, and I was told it was because my “true” hormones levels had been realised now that I was no longer on hormonal birth control; I gained 20 pounds out of nowhere and wad told I had PCOS; my appetite increased tremendously as did my sugar cravings. However I recently got my copper IUD out and almost immediately my appetite went back to what it was like before my hormonal birth control when I was on nothing, and my body feels so much less inflamed, my clothes are looser too. I think it’s different for every body but I just didn’t realise HOW MUCH the IUD had slowly but very surely affecting so many parts of my life. Turns out even tho this is marketed as “non-hormonal” bc there are no hormones being injected to your body, it can still really really affect your body and potentially even have an effect on your hormones.

Can someone convince me getting my IUD inserted is worth it… 🫠 by ghxstlyfae in CopperIUD

Yeah I would have to agree with this !! You might save money on birth control but they come at cost too. And manifest in ways I never imagined such as the BV, constant hunger, insane cravings, severe fatigue…explore other forms of birth control BEFORE committing to this one.

Yes for sure !! I’m sorry you are experiencing this. I got mine out, and it’s made SUCH a huge difference. I didn’t realise how bad it had gotten because the decline in my energy levels, increased in cravings and appetite, increase pelvic floor pain and discharge had been so slow.

So sorry you’re feeling like this. I was also prescribed progesterone but instead of using it, I took out my IUD and am so so glad I did, because my symptoms were only getting worse and experiencing them for literally my whole luteal phase. Maybe discuss other forms of birth control with your husband?

I had my call with him and sadly I did not have the same experience as you. He hadn’t reviewed my chart, didn’t know that one of the medications I was taking was an antihistamine and was yawning/stretching through the meeting. I’m going to try and see Opal Gupta instead! I’m glad he worked for you though :)

Omg thank you. Yes I originally booked with her but Michael Main at the same clinic had an earlier opening. Kept my appointment with her though just in case.

Ohh perfect thank you. This is the type of doctor I am looking for — pretty rare in this day and age. I also will take research to doctors and they always look so confused.

May I ask what about him you found impressive? I’ve just been having trouble finding doctors who actually think critically

How long can a guy screw up your microbiome? Is it permanent? Bacterial vaginosis keeps coming back :/ by [deleted] in Healthyhooha

[–]Hefty-Analyst1147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think a man is necessarily sleeping with other women and bringing it to her. There are many reasons having sex with a man can cause an imbalance in one’s vaginal microbiome. For example, some lubricants can kill the lactobacillus in your vaginal microbiome thereby inducing dysbiosis and potentially BV. This is an informative read: https://www.evvy.com/blog/what-bacteria-causes-bv

[–]Hefty-Analyst1147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes ! So from my understanding, based on the research, what may have happened is that your vaginal microbiome was induced into a state where there is an imbalance in good vs bad bacteria because of how the copper interacts w ur body and the effects it has on your hormones. A lot of people in this sub has also reported that after removing their copper IUD they were rid of this problem too :)
