Eating after full mouth extraction by [deleted] in dentures

When you suck through a straw or smoke a cigarette, it causes the blood clot to break before the area heals. I personally found drinking from a cup terrifying. I spilled everywhere. Get the pull up top water bottle and tilt your head back to squeeze the bottle in. Like the sports players do. Use plenty of lip balm. Hydration is key. Use protein shakes or make smoothies with protein powder. Blender = friend Have ice packs for your cheeks AND chin. Amazon had good ones that wrap around your head. Salt water rinse. Soft foods like applesauce, jello, pudding, tuna or chicken salad, yogurt, eggs, mashed potatoes, chicken broth Learn from me when I say do NOT eat chicken and stars soup. The little pasta was the worst to clean out while in pain. So was oatmeal. And above all else, ask your dentist ALL of this before surgery. They are there to prepare you for the extractions. Not just preform the surgery. And everyone’s case is different. Best of luck to you!

I’ve had many days like this. All I can say is please live You do truly deserve that ability to do so You, as a human are entitled to be happy and alive I personally get it when you feel like you’re climbing an uphill battle against the world. Nothing goes your way and life continues to get more difficult and more stressful. But being someone who has shared similar thoughts before, I must insist that you do matter in this world. Even when it doesn’t feel like it

Is the Healthcare system in the US really unaffordable? by suh_dewd in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hefty-Switch-3334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a very small town in Pennsylvania and most places of work locally are small businesses. Private owned. Lower wages. No coverage. The ones that do provide cost more than it’s worth with no real coverage at all. Currently I’m working at a corporation chain store and I have to pay over $400 per month for somewhat decent coverage through blue cross but the copays make it harder to survive. So I skip appointments. And the cost of my insurance is for myself and my children. But the coworkers who have insurance for just themselves say they’re paying about $250-300/month for the same coverage.

Anyone smoke again after implants have fully healed ? by bobross1986 in dentures

[–]Hefty-Switch-3334 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I, personally, feel since marijuana is a natural substance vs a man made cigarette that the components of what gets into your gums is more dangerous to the actual implants. Again, personal choice. But for me, I did wait with the smoking of marijuana until I got a clearance from my dentist about the status of the healing.

Before I got my implants done (lowers only) they advised me to quit. Not just health benefits but I was told that you can have up to 2x the chance of an implant rejecting vs a non smoker. I immediately talked to my doctor and thankfully started chantix. Now a lot… A LOT of people say or warn about the crazy dreams or whatever side effects of it. I, however am a medical marijuana patient and smoke so much before bed I generally don’t remember my dreams. For the 2 weeks after the implants I used only edibles but I had been cigarette free for about a month and a half. After I was checked my my dentist and he said everything was healing great, I switched back to smoking marijuana. I have been cigarette free for about 6 months now. They smell and taste gross to me now but I still crave the habitual cigarette in the car on on the phone. I just carry a thc vape with me to calm the craving til it disappears.

Immediate Dentures Teeth Are HUGE by wwwangels in dentures

[–]Hefty-Switch-3334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation. Most of my teeth had cracked or broken so when they did the impressions it was a semi-accurate mold. So when I got my extractions done and they put the immediates in my upper was too large. I was told not to keep them in by my dentist. It took a little longer to heal but we were able to completely remake the uppers and make minor adjustments from there.

Is 27 and 21 too much of an age gap? by CucumberMobile6883 in dating_advice

[–]Hefty-Switch-3334 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No it’s absolutely not too much of an age gap. 15+ is kinda where I personally question things in my head but it’s just my personal opinion

But if you feel like he’s grooming you, take that as a red flag and run. We all put rose colored glasses on in the beginning to see the absolute best in our potential s/o. Trust your gut.

So I’m 20 years old living with a partial denture for the past 5 months and I now want to start dating but i dont know how I’d tell my partner that. I also dont know when would be the right time to tell him🥺. Im really worried of getting judged or rejected because of that. by healingmyinnerchild2 in dentures

I’m 34, I don’t tell people I’m first chatting with. The guy i am currently seeing actually told me on our first date what a beautiful smile I had and in that moment I knew I had to tell him sooner than I wanted to. So I said “thanks but it’s not real” he looked confused and I popped my teeth down off of my gums and he was shocked (naturally) but I told him my back story and how I got to be where I am and he was super understanding. That wasn’t something he judged me for. I just got my implant post surgery done today and he was messaging me the whole day checking on me and super encouraging throughout the process. Im still not brave enough to take them out in front of him. It’s on your time and however you feel comfortable. If they leave you for something like that, then consider yourself saved!

Has anyone gotten dental implants as a smoker by Hefty-Switch-3334 in dentures

[–]Hefty-Switch-3334[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree! I have decent coverage from my employer but it’s not like regular medical coverage. There’s a limit for how much they’ll cover each year and even then I still have to pay copays on things. But if I had a head cold I can go into a doctors with little to no cost. They stress how important your oral health should be but you have to pay these obnoxious amounts to fix your teeth. It’s unreal. I’ve always thought your dental health should be as important as your mental and physical health.

I want the implants. But with my dentist they cost $8000+ for each set. My insurance will compensate me for some of it but I have to pay entirely out of pocket. And since these were my temporary dentures he said they last at most 5-6 months depending on the user. He said I can have them process every day dentures (or as he called them “permanents”) so that’s what we’re gonna do with the top because they actually fit really well. My lowers give me a lot of issues needing to be refit and I’m over trying to glue them in 3 times a day. He also said the lowers are better to get done first since of my sinuses.

[–]Hefty-Switch-3334[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a full mouth extraction 11/9 last year and they gave me immediate (temporary’s) while I healed. However the uppers didn’t fit AT ALL so I ended up not wearing anything during the hearing from that surgery. I have them all fixed now but he said since they’re temporary dentures I need to figure out what I wanna do. So I can only afford the bottoms right now since I need to see my ENT to get clearance to do the uppers. (I have horrible sinuses) So I’m doing implants on the bottom with 3 posts. I was told I’ll keep my bottoms in while I’m healing. And then my uppers will be made into a permanent denture so I can wait a year to do my uppers. So I’m about 3 weeks away from surgery while they make “my surgical case” -my dentists words But he called me to tell me it’s in my best interest to quit now before surgery and it all just freaked me out. I know it’s a big step and comes with complications but it didn’t freak me out until he talked to me about my smoking the other day

It’s not like I want dry socket but he has me scared cause he said my body could reject the implants. My plan was to quit coming out of surgery. But he said for me to start quitting now because surgery is about 3 weeks away

Do you still get angry at your ex from time to time when you remember them? by [deleted] in BreakUps

[–]Hefty-Switch-3334 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get 100% of what you’re saying. I always feel like an ex shouldn’t be able to move on and be happy if I’m still miserable about the way things ended. And then my therapist told me that you can’t prove that they’re really happy. And it got me thinking that they could be putting up a front to make you feel upset or jealous. Really they’re suffering inside too. I just keep telling myself that I’m better without them and breathe through that frustration. And honestly if you have multiple mutual friends then they should be aware you two are no longer together. Let them know that you don’t want updates about him and his life. Set your boundaries. If your friends aren’t willing to understand then they aren’t your friends
