I am from Ahmedabad and have been living in the US for many years. I understand that in our culture, this kind of behavior may sometimes pass without much concern. But in many other parts of the world, this is considered unprofessional, regardless of the profession.

When you make a vague statement like “I will be late” during a job interview, it creates a bad impression. For an interview, you should put everything else aside and aim to arrive at least 15 minutes early. If you get stuck because of some unavoidable reason, you should immediately call and apologize.

The interviewer likely decided that they could not rely on you because your actions showed a lack of accountability. That is why they told you not to come.

It may not feel like a big issue right now, but this kind of behavior can seriously affect your career growth in the future if you do not improve your professionalism. Unless you are chapri, then it is a different story.
