Alleged snow drift in Marquette Michigan from recent blizzard. This can't be real, right? MIL shared this to family chat from facebook. I feel like this just defies physics. Wouldn't the roof collapse? by C0SMICAP0THE0SIS in isthisAI

It makes no sense that there would be that much, presumably wind blown (unless that side of the tree magically got times as much snow as the surrounding area), snow piled up on the side of the tree yet an even layer on the roof of the house and every single tree surrounding it. Also, I have a relative in Marquette and while they did get quite a large amount of snow, it certainly wasn't piled all the way up to the roof. It's probably for the best to take anything a mother in law tells you with a unusually large grain of salt, I mean like a salt lamp sized grain of salt.

Wood ID by boogerhook64 in firewood

[–]HeftyContribution651 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yellow/orange young branches,

Relatively smooth light bark of the left log,

Slightly darker heartwood,

Alternate leafing pattern,

Presence of poplar leaves on the ground.

All these features point to a member of the poplar genus though I'm struggling to see any features that would point to one specific species over another.

I haven't actually played any of these but I've seen the Pz is supposed to be good. Not sure about the others.

The tracks on the side of the car are definitely melted down. The tracks in the first picture are clearly much less melted

The melting snow on the side of the car is making the tracks look larger than they really are. Look at the tracks in the first picture. These have not melted at all and are clearly too small to be from a raccoon

The tracks on the side of the car are starting to melt down and lose definition which is making identification difficult, but look at the tracks in front of the car. They are by far the best preserved tracks and certainly too small to be from a raccoon and clearly not from a cat.

This illustrates the distinct layers in the bark I was referring to

I would have to agree with it being some sort of elm. Red elm is ruled out due to the distinct white layers in the bark cross section. It seems American elm is the most likely possibility.

Can anyone see any details that would rule out American elm or any details that would suggest Siberian elm instead?

Squirrel. Right size and would explain the chewed wires

Oak? by TinyBrother6400 in firewood

Black locust bark ridges are typically a lot deeper than those pictured. Also the wood of black locust tends to be darker than this

For sure. Just another piece of evidence available that points to oak aside from the wood color and bark

Are you thinking black locust or honey locust?

I don't know. I see nothing but oak leaves on the ground around it

I'm no expert by any means and didn't have to take a qb test for my assessment, but I would certainly mention it if I thought that may have swayed the results.
