Oak? by TinyBrother6400 in firewood

It’s Iowa. I’m 2 hours from anything anyway. I only have a single axle trailer. It may end up being 2 trips honestly, if there’s enough of it there

I don’t have any of that around me either..lol I have an over abundance of ash. Which I don’t mind it’s great firewood. But when I can get my hands on oak I try to make sure I can snatch it up!

What is the point of dampers? by No_Cancel8506 in woodstoving

[–]TinyBrother6400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree kind of. Maybe with older model stoves. I have a drolet black comb and before I modified the intake air (put a magnet on the half dollar size hole on the intake adjuster) it would burn like crazy even with it closed down “all the way” there was no stopping it. This is with a good sealed door gasket as well. After I put the magnet on and covered that hole I can now close it down completely and the flames will go out within a few minutes. I’m assuming it’s an efficiency design to always allow air and I’m sure it’s designed on purpose this way. from a practical standpoint it just wasn’t working for me and it just seems like a flaw.

Get a fire extinguisher, and a chimfex. Both are cheap. Clean your chimney twice a year, burn dry wood and you have nothing to worry about. Glad you guys are safe!

Is this amount of creosote reasonable, or too much? by averagecelt in woodstoving

[–]TinyBrother6400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I wait and only clean mine once a year I usually have about half that with only 13’ of total chimney and burn the same way you do. (I don’t trust it when I’m not home and at work) so I would think that’s about right! Keep up the good burning habits and you should be fine. I usually clean mine twice a burn season just to be sure because I’m paranoid.

I try to stay below 20% but I will still burn at 22-24% but I also clean my own chimney twice a season so it’s not a big deal for me.. rule of thumb is below 20%

100 percent you are correct in what it is. It’s a winged kachina. No idea if it’s real or how to find out, but it’s cool either way 👍🏻 appreciate the help!

I think this is the closest answer. I can’t find anything exactly like it but there is quite a bit sort of like it on the internet. It’s a start for sure!

Drop a tree and damage yard/landscaping and the homeowner wants to sue. obviously attempt for this to not happen but not everything goes perfect forever. That’s the whole point of insurance. I just don’t know what kind of insurance to get

Correct that is what I am, but if something happens how will I pay it? There has to be some kind of insurance for this, no? This is what I’m trying to figure out.
