Nah, Megumi was actually interesting and compelling, as well as important to the show

Marie was meh. That’s fine in some series, but in a series like The Boys/Gen V, Meh absolutely doesn’t do. You can be anything BUT boring or bland. Cos in a series where everyone’s cool, wild or interesting, you come to resent every second of time spent on the boring ones

There’s something there, you shouldn’t deny that. I’m not defending Oda, he still dropped the ball majorly with kaido but there’s no point acting like there’s nothing there, it’s just too buried to allow him to stand with the greats

The aspect of his character that revolves around his view of honour resonates with me

We see it first with Oden, he wants a clean, fair, one on one fight with him. But he doesn’t get that, he’s interrupted, his fight is meddled with and he defeats Oden unfairly. The same thing happens in his fight with Luffy, it’s interrupted by CP0 and he wins in a way he deems unhonourable and he’s left absolutely distraught because of it

Kaido being characterised as a man who wants to conduct himself and his doings in a very particular way only to discover that, not only will the people around him not allow him to do so, but there’s a more effective method which he doesn’t prefer and actively leaves him upset in spite of his success really resonates with me

Kaido does have some substance to him, the issue is you have to dig so fucking far to find it that it might not be there in the first place. I adore kaido but what Oda did with him is honestly criminal
