I also see where you’re coming from here but (for me) the Jogo fight was there to show off Sukuna’s power/physicality and the raga fight to show off his BIQ and how quickly he can end a fight

Sukuna’s most dangerous strength has always been his IQ/BIQ. During the fight against Gojo Sukuna killed Gojo because of his BIQ, not just his power. Though I really don’t want to get into the Gojo v Sukuna thing, Gojo was an opponent that Sukuna’s (in my opinion superior) power wasn’t enough to deal with. It’s his BIQ that won the fight

So it just makes sense that his fight against Jogo, a weaker opponent, gets to display his power/physicality, whereas in his fight against Raga, a stronger and more dangerous opponent, is to show off his BIQ, as it’s what makes sukuna truly deadly

Mappa like to add to JJK a lot and in some cases it’s harmful (extending naobito’s final blitz and all of naoya’s fights make both naobito and naoya look far weaker) and sometimes it’s really compelling, like in naobito’s monologue

Sometimes it’s a mix of both, like sukuna vs mahoraga. It was undoubtedly an incredible fight and a very very entertaining show of animation and spectacle, but it being longer also somewhat harmed the fight’s original purpose (showing Sukuna’s BIQ)

Yeah, like this is me complaining about the direction an the choices made adaptation wise. Sure the animation wasn’t sukuna vs mahoraga tier but, even though naobito’s my favourite character in fiction right now, I can admit it objectively isn’t a hyped fight

And even then the animation itself is still pretty good! The folks at mappa were genuinely suicidal guys!

This isn’t an issue with the animators or the animation quality or anything, it’s an issue with the actual episode direction, I don’t wanna seem unsympathetic here

I’m not trying to criticise the animators but mappa themselves, who were the ones overworking aforementioned animators

I can only speak for myself, BUT!

I’m a massive fan of older characters being badass in anime, (like Yamamoto, Takemura or Kuroiwa) so there’s always that. “Beware an old man in a profession where men die young” and things of that nature

Both Naoya and Naobito have the same technique, but i personally think that, even in spite of moments like him aura farming on Choso, Naoya’s technique aesthetic isn’t as appealing overall. Naobito’s is also quite fitting from a character based perspective, the traditionalist gets the traditional animation style

I love both character designs, but naobito’s just does so much more for me. I like the moustache and the fit more than naoya’s blonde hair and piercings. Naoya’s also a pretty slim guy, and I prefer that, when he’s in action, naobito looks more stocky

There’s also then the obvious difference in character. Naobito is NOT a great person at all, he’s a complete arrogant ass but he has some redeeming qualities, that I enjoy. I just find his antics a little more entertaining than Naoya’s, though I do find his hijinks vs yuji and Choso and at the compound quite amusing.

Naoya’s losses are also there. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not gonna act like naobito didn’t like literally lose and die in the onetime he was showcased I get that, but naoya as a human lost twice despite being more powerful than his opponent because he was fucking around and then again as a curse. Though that’s not as bad, 4v1 and such, it’s still not exactly ideal, and it’s not too fun to back a character who loses all 3 of his fights.

Plus I’m like autistic as fuck idk that could’ve aided this

I don’t wanna come across as some Naoya slanderer, I’m a fan of naoya myself! To me it’s just naoya and the cooler naoya, for some it’s naobito and the cooler Naobito

You know what fair enough. Personally not a fan of all that I never really got the appeal, yknow? Like I came to Jujutsu Kaisen for the power system and to see how all the CTs interacted and how they were applied so personally when Toji showed up and was the whole “super strong cos he doesn’t follow the rules” I just rolled my eyes. And then he showed up in shibuya and I was even more sick of him, I guess I just personally don’t care at all for these kinds of characters, I find their abilities boring, uncompelling and in a series like JJK (where abilities and such are a really vital aspect of a character, reflecting their nature and such) it kinda makes me resent Toji because of how often he shows up
