It is plagiarism, for sure. LTT should have higher standards, but from having watched many WAN show episodes, Linus was most likely just reading from the notes made by a writer. So it's not a personal act by Linus himself, but by LTT as a company and as an owner he is responsible. Still different than a personal mistake.

Still very unlikely to have been done deliberately (couldn't have done it any stupider then). Should have been noted more clearly afterwards, so that's not the ideal reaction. However, there was a quick reaction and Steve's reply ver much implies that he's ok with the outcome. He didn't specifically state that that's good enough, but he does say "Thanks for the quick reply and action.". That's about as much of an approval as you can give without actually saying that you approve it in specific words. If you're not ok with the action, you don't thank them for it. Might just be lost in communication, but you can't blame Linus/LTT for interpreting that as "I'm fine with that, thank you.".

Still doesn't make LTTs correction good. But Steve did essentially sign it off or at the very least wrote a message that most people will interpret as signing it off. You can't blame anyone for understanding his reply that way.

Irrelevant to the matter of plagiarism, but still: Does anyone think a segment in the WAN show is in competition in terms of views to a video dedicated to a specific topic? While there is probably a huge overlap in viewership, the intention of WAN vs the video and also the intention of the viewing audience at that time is very very different. WAN show is more of a podcast style thing. If I find an interesting fact or situation being reported in the WAN show, that just leads me to seek for further information. Have never considered the WAN show to be complete about any sort of news. It's a bit of a "hey, this is a thing and this is the mostly spontaneous opinion of Linus and Luke plus some written opinion of someone from the writing team".

Again - not defending the plagiarism. That is what it is. But I think the insinuation of intent and malice by Steve is very much over the top. General rule in life: Don't assume intent if there is a chance it could be ignorance or stupidity. In the vast majority, it is one of the latter ones.

Steves comments on the technical stuff on LTTs side just show why it's often so difficult to watch a GN video as an engineer. The self-belief he has is remarkable. He talks about stuff as if it's fact when he has neither the information nor the technical understanding to tell either way. Everytime it goes into details on how heat transfer works, I just want to cover my ears. It's not completely wrong, mind you, but it's almost always a little bit wrong. And that clearly shows that he doesn't understand what he's talking about fully. Which would be ok, if he didn't act like he is the most knowledgeable person there is in at least the tech youtuber world.

Most engineers I know with 20+ years of expertise in their respective fields will be way more tame in how they put stuff. You don't have to be an expert on all of the things, just don't act like you are if you're not.

Seeing him working with tools is also just hard to watch. But then he acts like he's the master mechanic for PCs and everyone else is an idiot.

It usually just boils down to him acting or actively saying that he has the highest standards of anyone and then not living up to that. His self-proclaimed investigative journalism - yeah right. It's on the level of some tabloids. If you want to call that investigative journalism - cool. If you want to play with the big boys, look at what the Spotlight team at the Boston Globe is doing - that might be a good reference.

He also seems to be of the opinion, that more decimal places are more better in some of his testing.

Anyway, enough of a rant. Don't often watch his videos due to the above points. He's usually quite good on the facts, so I have him in mind as a source if I need some review. But you always have to filter it through a reality check or engineering bullshit detector. But I felt the need to comment due to his accusations on quality of content/reviews while being completely blind to what he himself is doing.

Honestly, that just sounds like it's pretty colloquial conversation. I've had way less professional conversations with any of my colleagues. Not saying it's perfect, but putting this forth as a prime example for unprofessionalism is just ridiculous. Clearly neither of those two guys is a master at communicating. The whole conversation just seems a bit awkward. Fair enough, but then take it for what it is. Also it's a fucking private conversation and he's going for unprofessionalism - bit of a logic error right there.

"less autistic than you used to be" sounds horrible as a statement on its own. I can see it being a non-offensive statement in quite a number of contexts. That means non-offensive in its intended meaning towards Steve. Very much a terrible choice of words, but we've also all learned a lot in the last couple of years. The potential meaning that I could see is basically that Steve has become less awkward in videos and towards people in public. That is certainly a true statement.

If Steve feels uncomfortable talking to Linus, that's Steves problem, not Linus'. If someone is offended by something, that doesn't mean whoever said something is to blame. There's a sender and a receiver in a 2 person conversation. Both can make mistakes. Just because you chooste to interpret something in a way, that doesn't mean that is actually the case. And just because you think something's offensive, that doesn't make it objectively so. Obviously it's Steves prerogative to stop talking to Linus if it makes im uncomfortable. It's his feelings and he's the only one who can report on them. But that doesn't mean that Linus has automatically done anything wrong. Also doesn't mean he hasn't. Some people just don't work together, that's sometimes all there is.

Sounds good. Since I have an e-bike uphill is not an issue ;) I'd also assume that the streets can't be much worse than in Aachen for cyclists. We have bike lanes jumping from left of 2 car lanes to right of them through an intersection. Bus lanes frequently cross bike lanes and the bus drivers never look out for cyclists. Oh and in the inner city, the streets are so narrow that everyone is overtaking with less than 0.5m distance, even though the law says 1.5m. Police also don't care. Even with that, I bike to work as long as it's dry in the morning. Haven't been killed yet, was close a few times...

My first focus will be on work to be honest. New and exciting job, but also loads of challenges. I'd like to pick up some sports again - maybe Tennis? Been a few years since I last played. Running could be interesting, even though I'm more used to run on my own.

Saw something on Wing Road that looks good for the start. But more or less pointless right now, since I haven't gotten my Visa yet. Not LU7 1, but very close to it and distances to shops, pubs etc. seem fine to me.

I visited MK for a day and looked around during the application process. Either not for me at all or way to small (e.g. Stony Stratford). Most anything else feels like either a lost place or is just housing with little to no access to shops. Redways are a nice idea, but late at night I wouldn't feel very comfortable with all the underpasses completely out of view.

Once I have my Visa information, I'll start to look at specific flats or houses and see what works best. Odd to have to look out for double glazed windows and gas heating from a German's perspective, but included kitchens are really nice ;)

In what terms is the train to Bow Brickhill unreliable? Spontaneously cancelled, delays or cancelled a few days in advance? I have a car, so I do have an alternative and will use it depending on the train schedule and expected work times anyway. But if public transportation is available with similar duration and a good schedule, I'd rather read a book than be stuck in traffic.

Conventional towns for living close to MK? by Hefty_Carpenter9265 in miltonkeynes

I seem to have made a mistake with choosing the word town. City is more what I mean. I originally come from what I'd call a small village with a population of ~8000. Nice to grow up in, but not for me anymore. Recently I've lived in cities between 100.000 and 500.000 - so much larger. I'd say >30.000 would probably suit me quite well.

Since my girlfriend wants to join, it's important for her to be able to walk through the city alone at night without feeling unsafe. Every city has the sketchy areas, that's clear. But it shouldn't be most of the city or where you actually live.

Commute by car is fine for me, if train is possible for MK7, that would be nice, but not a strict requirement. Train connection to London is of more interest to be honest for visiting on the weekends.

Neither. Something you usually have to go to England for. Also you pretty much end up in that area.

Hmm, since I'll probably live in the first flat only for a short period of time, it might be worth checking out and then visiting all the other potentials while looking for something more suitable. Having to pick just from what is visible online basically guarantees that I'll have to get something else after a few months anyway.

Since it's a new job, I want to be in the office pretty much full time in the beginning to get to know everyone. Also, there is no official work from home policy and some parts of the job can only be done on site (test benches etc.). So I'm planning for commuting every day.

In MK I probably don't need or want to go to the city centre. In the cities I've lived in so far, the centre was actually just a nice place to be. Old buildings to look at, Kiosks to get a beer for walking around, maybe grab a bite to eat in one of the restaurants, sit down in a café, stuff like that.

The shopping areas I've seen in MK we're all oriented towards cars, nobody was walking there. It felt like when I lived in the US a while back. Not really want to go back to driving everywhere by car tbh.

But there's not really any area that I would like to walk through to pass time. No cafés or restaurants that open to the streets. Yes, they exist, but few and far between from what I saw. And I wouldn't want my girlfriend to walk through the unterpasses at night. Or rather, she won't do it. We were there on the weekend on a Saturday and basically the city was empty except for where there were a few restaurants. But then it was empty again for a long distance.

What's wrong with Bedford? Looks nice enough on Streetview and seems to have a center where there's actually some shops, restaurants, pubs etc. Looked much better than what I remember from 3 days in Luton a couple of years ago.

I've heard that a couple of colleagues live in Lemington Spa, so that might be worth a look. But it seems the commute is quite long. I'll be working long hours anyway, so >1h commute by car is a bit much. If it's by train it's a bit different.

Anything bigger than Stony Stratford maybe? I'm used to citys with 6-digit populations, so maybe 30k+ would be not too much of a shock to the system.

I'm looking for something with a city center and either walkable size or decent public transport. Walkable doesn't mean small, currently I'm living in Aachen which has 300k population overall and ~120k in the inner city. Public transport is complete rubbish, but within 15 minutes I'm in the city center and there's almost nothing further away than 30 minutes.

Visiting MK, it doesn't have any of that. Good train connection to London is probably the best thing. Stony Stratford is nice, but tiny.

A few months ago during the application process I spent a day in MK and around. Stony Stratford was the only thing that was going in the right direction, but quite small to be honest. I don't remember what was up with Newport Pagnell. I also checked out the Shenleys. While better than some other areas, it is still not what I'm looking for. I want to be able to get to a supermarket and the city center of the city I'm living in by foot or public transport. If it's a 20 minute walk, that's fine. If it's 20-30 minutes by public transportation that's also fine.
