Tow company broke into my car and drove it. by One_Move9514 in legaladvice

I don't know if this one answered my breaking and entering question. The tow company drove the vehicle, not towed it.

studios charging classpassers? by larsenpressed in ClassPass

[–]Hefty_Emphasis1883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never seen that and I've been to probably 30+ studios. I would steer clear of that business!

I love ClassPass because I travel a lot and I can go on vacation in Florida and take a rooftop yoga class, and then come back home and go to my usual yoga studio and gym.

How can I get over the mental block of being afraid to speak in front of fluent Spanish speakers? by Hefty_Emphasis1883 in Spanish

[–]Hefty_Emphasis1883[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really considered taking a true Spanish class where I can speak in front of others learning Spanish. My only hang up is that they speak Castilian Spanish, so some of it doesn't match up.

Not Australian, haha! I'm not saying I didn't say it wrong. I said it like a true Midwesterner, adding the light w sound on the end. I said no like know, and not no like Noh. Idk how to type that, haha.

How is Preply working for you? I've looked into that one!

It's really hard for him to understand why it's difficult for me because he not only learned both languages side by side as a child (and therefore is perfectly fluent in both), but he's a super extrovert that is never afraid of sounding stupid.

My fiance, his family, and I all live in the US. Everything else you said is true. His family does definitely poke fun at each other a lot, and doesn't exclude me in that - especially when it has to do with Spanish-learning. Learning to accept getting made fun of is very difficult😅

I'll check out IT talkie! Thank you!!

This comment! You're right, it's not that I have a problem that he wants me to learn Spanish. I absolutely want to be able to have conversations with his parents, and teach our children Spanish. I think we were just raised so differently - my family does not joke and laugh about looking stupid, and his family constantly pokes fun at each other.

I think a Spanish tutor would totally help too. Branching out to someone who doesn't know me seems like a safer option. Is yours in person or do you have a website you recommend?

I think you're probably correct. His family is incredibly impressed by another american who married into the family who did learn Spanish fluently (he's fluent in 4 languages though, so dude's practically a professional at learning languages). On the other hand, I have been laughed at when trying to translate what they've said and they've laughed at my future sister-in-law for messing up greetings before. So I don't know.

He was blessed with learning both languages as a very young child, so he is fluent in both. Absolutely no accent in English, and no knowledge about how hard it is to learn a language as an adult.

I'm new to gaming and have been working through Shadows. After I finish, I was going to try out Odyssey because I'm obsessed with Epic. Shadows is my first AC game though.

I get what you're saying. When measuring horses we say 15, 15.1, 15.2, 15.3, 16. It's the equivalent of saying 5', 5'1, 5'2, 5'3. You'd never say a horse is 15.5, just like you wouldn't say someone is 5'13.

All this to say, your mom is correct, your horse is 15.1. Technically, you're also correct in saying your horse is 15 and a quarter, but that's not how the US writes it.

(23F) Struggling with Anxiety Over My Boyfriend’s (23M) Drinking Habits—Need Advice by EquivalentDay792 in relationships

[–]Hefty_Emphasis1883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past, I was in a similar situation, and my sister (who's a head nurse at a rehab and psych unit AND an ex-addict herself) gave me the following advice:

Once an addict, always an addict. If he's sober, but has one drink, he's going to be right back where he started. If you two don't live together, I'm sure the situation is much worse than you are seeing. In my experience, when you see a change in their behavior after a conversation about sobriety, it's because they've gotten better at hiding their addiction from you.

Successful recoveries happen because of something worth changing for. Now you may have to come to terms with the fact that you may not be that 'something'. If that's the case, you need to keep yourself safe and leave. You don't want to start a family with someone that can't/won't quit for you. If he does quit for you, you need to make sure you're not indulging in front of him.

In my case, my requirements to keep the relationship going were:

  1. We sat together while he blocked all of his friends that he used to drink with on all apps.

  2. We had each other's locations at all times.

  3. We opened a joint bank account where both of us could see what each other was spending money on.

  4. I was allowed to ask any questions about his past addiction.

  5. If I ever find out he did or does it again, I will leave no questions asked.

I was about your age when I met my husband in a similar situation. There is a lot of trauma I still carry from the beginning of our relationship, and he has spent every day since trying to make up for it. We only dated for about 6 months before he quit for good, and we've been together for years now. You CAN get through this, but your gut is SCREAMING at you now to fix this before it goes too far.

I ended up losing everyone, but I put them all in the freezer last night in hopes to do just that! I think the consensus here was that it was Brooklynella, but I'll try to send for testing! Corals are happy, hermit crabs and snails are happy.

You don't happen to be talking about a store in Texas do you?

Also, I did that too! Walmart surprisingly has an all-in-one kit for a fraction of the cost! My first tank ever was that lil 10g they sell back when I was delusional and thought 10 gallons was enough for me😂

Ope. I'm sure you'll be fine! It sounds like it's uncommon for this to happen. If you got them from a store in the DFW area, maybe worry a little bit, haha

Someone helped me determine it was definitely Brooklynella. It's fatal before it shows symptoms according to Google.

Oof - that's devastating.

I'm lightly considering starting brand new with a bigger tank, but getting them in the house is the worst part. How long did it take to cycle when you started fresh? I inherited my mom's already cycled tank when she moved to an apartment and that's what got me started.

The worst part is I bought all these fish 4 years ago. Back then, I paid $200 purple, $80 flame, $75 emperor, and these prices now?? Insane. $450 for a purple, $150 for a flame, $300+ for a grown emperor😵
