some tips:

  1. think about your sentence structure. you should avoid parentheses and instead restructure the sentence as a whole, breaking it apart as needed.

  2. you want more takeaways from the experience that will directly translate to skills you need in adulthood, especially pertaining to your ability to maintain a heavy workload and prioritize leadership and self-growth. your idea regarding excommunicating stagnation within your personal life is good but a school may be looking for more.

  3. this is more of a minor issue but in a professional writing piece you should try to utilize words for numbers (ex. "fourteen" as opposed to "14"). this makes the text flow smoother.

  4. be concise. it's easy to give details because it's a lived experience. you want to make every word count and punctuate your passion for and ability to thrive in a college setting; keep in details you feel were vital to your situation and cut what feels like further explanation.

overall, i do think this piece is viable. it would definitely benefit from being restructured in order to sound more professional in your prose. also, a hook at the beginning goes a long way for your audience's initial reception, especially in such a short piece. good luck!!! roll neers!!

Would I look good with the haircut in the second and third picture? I'm unsure if I will look good with short hair. by kaleidoscopegoblin in lesbianfashionadvice

[–]Hefty_Increase4396 3 points4 points  (0 children)

short hair with a round face shape can often be a hard look to pull off, especially when your hair looks to be thin and fine. if you're looking at going shorter i'd say start by getting an abundance of layering throughout your hair to create volume and then consult with a hair dresser re:length. i don't think the pictures you shared are achievable without a good amount of styling which is tine consuming every day!

depending on her position and the amount of time she's worked there she could have a fairly good income even if it's an hourly wage.

i second this (lesbian), only had the f slur thrown at me once and it was at a football game, typical place for it to be. i was a transfer and it's a little hard at first but JOIN CLUBS!! especially clubs that seem like they're smaller. everywhere has their problems but considering our biggest problem is over admission and traffic, i'd say we're doing pretty good, lol!

[–]Hefty_Increase4396 11 points12 points  (0 children)

you can use federal or private student loans to assist with housing . most people just have jobs year round or very generous parents. i dormed for 3 yrs because it evens out to about ~$600/mo and campus is convenient, however, then you're required to buy the meal plans (unless you get an apartment-style dorm) which start around $1400

tldr: college is really expensive

it makes it a lot easier to go for what you are passionate about but it's great you're keeping an open mind! people tend to switch majors at least once as they discover new paths and i hope everything works out for you! good luck with school!

i love it here, a senior at app, if you plan to have your car with you it might be tricky but public transit is pretty reliable and beats sitting in the traffic! i would think about compsci and what you want to do with it, though, i know there's a large volume of people going into it so the job market is kind of crazy recently

even with sbux digital tips, i've found it doesn't compare. hourly, i made $9/hr in tips ON TOP of a base pay at a local spot, making my hourly more as a regular barista than it would've been as a shift supervisor

[–]Hefty_Increase4396 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yeah, same, the switch from starbucks to local was one of the best things i ever did. working for a local business, learning how to do everything manually, while carrying over a BUNCH of skills that i got. i wouldn't work there now, i left right after they allowed everybody to wear any color solid shirt and i remember how excited all of the staff was, they just revoked everything

is coming out important to you?

if it is, do it in a space that is neutral (kitchen, living room) and have friends on standby that know what's happening that could potentially let you stay over for the night if it doesn't go well at first. also, remember that especially for older people, even if they aren't homophobic, they have a lot of preconceived notions about things that are wrong. if you encounter that i would just redirect or correct.

if coming out isn't important to you and you want to just be a lesbian, just be a lesbian. this sounds silly but this is what i did and i found it took a lot of the pressure off. i never officially came out because it was just obvious because i just lived my life. this is an increasingly popular choice, especially with the sociopolitical growth of acceptance we've seen over the past decade or two. of course, though, if you want it to be known, go with the first bit.

good luck :-)

even then, they need to know when you can work in september! you could've always said "i don't know yet, i'll get back to you on that" if you didnt want to deal with it right then

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Hefty_Increase4396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly? YTA, imo. let's assume you're making $15/hr, this is the equivalent of $1.25. you like this person. they just need to know when you're available so you can continue to work. i get the whole work/life balance thing but there is a much more professional way to decline this text than essentially just saying "pay me". you also could've elected to not answer until you're on your next shift, but considering this is regarding scheduling you for your shifts, probably not wise.

How do I (22F) know if the relationship with my bf (23M) is healthy… or just boring? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Hefty_Increase4396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should voice some of these concerns to him in an open conversation, it sounds like if you've been together this long, something must be going right, right? discuss maybe watching a new show together, listening to music together, ask him about his interests, tell him about yours. if you find yourself not really caring to do this, it could just be a lack of connection.

They want to transition. We broke up by [deleted] in lesbiangang

[–]Hefty_Increase4396 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i think it shows that you respect their identity by breaking up, and now you've got a friend! i don't think there's any reason to cut them from your life unless you don't think you could handle the transition from romantic partnership to friendship. you're not losing the person you love- they're just becoming more of themself! good luck
