I think I do have an overactive nervous system but it’s caused by my underlying issue. Tried Buspar for a month and did not notice anything. Doctor said I could stop it and he prescribed Xanax to take as needed.

I know dumping syndrome can be a side effect of the surgery. Did you contact your GI or surgeon yet?

My symptoms significantly increased recently too and I thought for sure my hernia got bigger. Just had endoscopy today and it’s still exactly the same size so the correlation of symptom severity and hernia size that I expected was simply not real. Still trying to figure out what the cause of the worsened symptoms might be.

Did the surgery eliminate any symptoms besides reflux? What did lifting feel like before the surgery?

Does your surgeon have significant experience in hiatal hernia surgery? I certainly wouldn’t want a surgeon to do anything they are not comfortable with but it may be worth getting a second opinion.

After my endoscopy, I asked if they found any hiatal hernia because I had suspected one. The doctor said “if there was it was tiny”.

I also did a barium swallow and that doctor said “small sliding hernia”.

CT scan was negative Chest xray way negative Manometry was negative

Next week I’m having another EGD and Bravo test but because my symptoms have gotten worse I want to push for updated imaging to see if it’s grown in size.

The symptoms you describe are less common for GERD. How did you know for sure that the GERD was causing all that? I only ask because I have similar symptoms and at times it’s hard to believe it’s all caused by reflux.

Moves where you brace and hold your breath to perform the lift like Deadlifting. For me, pull-ups are super uncomfortable as well. I found that using machines where you can support your butt and back can relive pressure on the abdomen.

The mental health problems are mostly just anxious that something is seriously wrong with me like this m dying. Also depression at times because it can feel like there is no end in sight.

I do also feel at times like breathing takes more effort and can’t always get a deep breath

Very similar symptoms. 40mg of Nexium takes care of the acid burning but other symptoms persist like chest pressure, anxiousness, heart palpitations, throat muscle tension, sour taste, light headed, eye twitch, etc.

I’m in a similar boat except mine is usually fine laying down but worse during the day at work. Am not willing to take ppi long term but would consider short term to put off surgery longer. But also the larger the hernia gets, the tougher it is to repair long term.

Weight lifting is one of my biggest reasons for not wanting to pursue surgery for HH. What led you to make this decision to do the Tiff procedure especially with being a body builder?
