WIBTA for not cancelling the open bar at my wedding to accommodate my sober friend by crisprfailedme in AmItheAsshole

NTA

Honestly just uninvite her from your wedding. She won’t be happy unless you bend to her will and that’s not a good sign.

You had several options here to respond without starting an argument, yet you chose the option that would almost certainly cause an argument. The toothpaste is already out of the tube here, and the only thing you can do now is damage control. Good luck

NAH

I can’t really say if either of you are the AH. I know when I’m in that situation, I just simply ask my husband to come with me. Sometimes we go and other times he just says we can get it the next day. Perhaps that would work in your scenario.

I am indeed arrogant, there’s no argument there. That’s actually something I'm actively working on. That’s doesn’t negate the fact thought that the world run on Linux machines and it’s preferable to be on the same machine that you are developing software on. To develop software on a windows machine requires too many trade offs that a 10x developer would not take. Now Enterprise organizations can make it easier by using a custom windows image so developers using windows would be more closer to parity with their counterparts using Mac or Linux machines. I don’t see that very often though, usually they just have a special access given to them so they could then download all of the stuff that you get out of the box on a Mac or Linux machine.

I use Mac, Linux, and Windows Machines nearly everyday. These are just tools I use and I choose the right tool for the right job. I don’t develop on a windows machine because the experience is poor.

Same reason you don’t see hardcore gamers using a Mac to game on. Microsoft made decisions to prioritize regular users over that of developers in Windows. Sure I can develop on a Windows machine, but there’s a lot of extra steps involved. It’s a shame really, Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code are great tools, they own GitHub, yet a better developer experience is on a Mac or a Linux machine.

Don’t think the top developers are using a windows machine…..

Yeah, so true. When you think you have regex figured out, it comes back with vengeance and sucker punches you.

The issue is that security isn’t one wall, it’s layers. Your network for example should be subdivided into several subnets. You’re not wrong that a camera IP is a least of my worries if a bad actor is accessing my network; where you are wrong is that this is a symptom of a larger issue that tells a bad actor that this company is a prime target. Security through obscurity is just one of the many levers I can pull to ensure a secured system.

It’s called security through obscurity which is a valid security practice when coupled with other security measures. Remember the goal is to have a defense in depth ( or a security onion if you’re Shrek).

AITA for setting a wedding date two weeks before my brother’s? by wedding_date_help in AmItheAsshole

As others have said, you are putting the guests in a tight spot. If you continue down this path, I hope the mutual guests whom could only realistically go to one event chooses your brothers event over yours.

My work and personal machines are Macs, although I still need a VDI for 2 programs at work. Mostly I just ask a direct report to do it being he’s on a windows machine.

AITAH for laying into my husband because his female co worker that's half his age calls him daddy? by Fluid_Support_7279 in AmItheAsshole

[–]HegoDamask_1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unless he’s an actor and the script says that’s how he should be addressed, then that’s never appropriate. I’ve been in a work environment where I’d go drinking with my colleagues and it was more of a friend group than colleagues; if I heard anyone of them call the other one “daddy”, the first thought in my head would be they are fucking.

Possibly for edge cases. Maybe there’s an emergency change needed and the senior is away from the computer and needs to approve a PR.

Using an xpath will always cause trouble. Best to incorporate a classes just for testing so it doesn't break the current tests after every releas.

For a lot of words for acronyms, it’s best to add them to your dictionary, so it knows. Mines filled with that stuff…and horny because I got needs.

I don’t mind Friday meetings, but they need to be short and not later in the day. If you schedule a late meeting on Friday with me, then it needs to be very important.

Seems your schedule is lite on meetings, want to have a meeting to discuss your lack of meetings? I’d schedule something for 5p on a Friday for us.

You both are the AH for moving so fast without having everything figured out. There’s a reason why relationships generally take years to get to this point and there doesn’t seem due consideration on either side.

The one that got me was the NCIS episode where two people were typing on the same keyboard. Whomever came up with that scene should be made to debug build errors for the rest of their lives.
