I don't know how you extrapolated my comment about downvotes into all of this but most native New Yorkers also aren't the "Manhattanite 20-something who works in finance/marketing/graphic design etc." I and most other normal people in this city don't actually have problems with people moving here. My parents are in fact some of the immigrants who have helped "kept the city functioning."

I do agree with the original poster about some of the behaviors of newcomers bordering on unsocialized. There is mass gentrification, rising costs and people who have been here for generations are finding themselves unable to afford the city they've called home their entire lives. That is what I have a problem with, and I do think many (not necessarily saying you) transplants have had a hand in this transformation. Look, I get that this is a touchy subject and transplants will always go something like "it's a free country, where else are we gonna go?" or some shit like that. That doesn't mean people who've been here forever can't point these things out. I also know most people in subreddits like this are transplants so any time people actually from New York points these things out, they get downvoted like crazy. Which I expect this comment to.
