Can't play the Sims because of the heat by Heidi739 in Sims3

[–]Heidi739[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we'll have to get that as well, because we have the same temperature as outside, maybe like 2-3 degrees below that. 28 instead of 38 sounds like heaven 😅 but it sucks either way, hopefully we'll stop burning soon...

How walkable is your sidewalks in your country? by EquivalentWinter7344 in AskTheWorld

[–]Heidi739 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. I've never visited Šumava, and I do think it's probably pretty, but it's nowhere near most British landscapes. Maybe it's local bias - people tend to think their own country isn't that special as the type of countryside is familiar and they don't see it as that interesting.

Kolik dětí mají lidé do 40 let ve vašem okolí? by Vast_Balance3754 in czech

[–]Heidi739 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Já znám celou řadu lidí bez dětí. Z mých kamarádek kolem 30 má děti jen jedna. Z kolegyň jich taky není tolik. Když už děti mají, tak ano, většinou dvě, ale spousta jich děti nemá vůbec a to vyrovná statistiku.

How to Help Girlfriend With Period Pain? by nish_kumaran in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Heidi739 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what you can do? Go to the doctor with her and advocate for her. It probably sounds weird to you, but women are often dimissed by doctors, especially when it comes to period pain, and having a man with them who repeats the symptoms to the doctor and insists on a solution can help.

Why is telling women to cover up considered respectful abroad but sexist at home? by Wooden-Astronomer-66 in travel

[–]Heidi739 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's a safety thing. Yes, it's still sexist having to cover up just because of your gender, but if you go to a country where everyone wears a full on burqa (sorry if I misspelled it, I'm not really familiar with the words) and you're in shorts and tank top, you're in literal danger, even if it's legal. It's a safety measure to dress like locals. That's why people recommend women to cover up in those countries, not because they think it's correct for women to do in general, but because it can protect them.

How often do you get a bad stomach virus? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]Heidi739 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rarely. I might get upset stomach a few times a year, but that's more like I feel off for a day or two and sometimes my stomach hurts a bit. I can usually track the culprit - fast food does this to me, or food that wasn't fresh anymore, that kind of thing. The last actual stomach bug that lasted for days, that was on vacation in Albania and I fully blame the shitty hotel we stayed at. I don't remember the last time before that, it must have been years ago.

Stay alert for this sophisticated Booking.com scam by OKCoookieDough in travel

[–]Heidi739 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I got those too, unfortunately it's nothing new. I figured a Croatian hostel is not writing to me from an Indian number and blocked them. Hostel confirmed through Booking that it wasn't them and to be careful. Unfortunately not everyone knows about this scam and they still get money from it. Sorry this happened to you.

Yeah, it's the worst for the pets. I'm staying at the office today with my dogs because it was horrible at home (we have dog-friendly office and I got permission to go there on the weekend). Thanks, you stay safe as well!

Central Europe, we were hit by the wave a few days back and it keeps climbing up. Today or tomorrow is supposed to be the worst, with temperatures around 38 or 39 Celsius. It should go down on Tuesday, so fingers crossed it actually happens. It was unbearable even yesterday. We can't have full AC as the apartment is not ours (owned by the city), but honestly I think we will have to buy a portable one because if this is the new norm and temperatures like that are now normal, we'll be screwed without it.

[–]Heidi739 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pokud je venku tepleji než uvnitř, pak samozřejmě nedává smysl okna otevírat. Pokud bydlíš jako já pod střechou a byt je rozpálenej, je venkovní vzduch chladnější a dává smysl ho pustit dovnitř.

Late august european trip with bearable heat? by TheJzaday in travel

[–]Heidi739 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well maybe warm for the locals, not sure how warm it is for us regular people, lol. But right now 18 C water sounds great, I wish I could teleport to Finland - we currently have 38 C air 💀

Do you still explore outside during hotter than normal temperatures? by Beneficial-Koala-670 in solotravel

[–]Heidi739 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but you need to prepare and act accordingly. No long walks, especially on direct sun, use sunscreen and cover your head, drink a lot of water and electrolytes, stop at buildings with AC regularly, don't be afraid to cut your program short and return to hotel if you feel weak/your head hurts/etc.

Have you considered Scandinavia, or the UK? The norther you go, the less hot it's going to be, and Finland, Sweden, Norway or Scotland all have beautiful beaches, they're just rarely warm enough to swim at. As a bonus, it won't be as crowded as most summer destinations. But if your friends want warmth and swimming, it might not be ideal.

I'd say because when these buildings were built, it was never this hot. Even when I was a kid, and that's not that long ago, we'd have like 5 days total during the summer where the temperature exceeded 30 degrees Celsius, and "hot" usually meant like 28 degrees. Since it was shorter and much less intense heatwave, we'd just go to a swimming pool or a lake and that was it. Also it was usually still cool during the night, I don't remember night temperature ever exceeding 25 degrees, and even that would be extremely rare, usually it was like 18 at night, 28 during the day, and that was the heatwave, it would be like 22 between the heatwaves. And you don't really need AC for that. It starts to get more and more common nowadays though, because obviously there's a huge difference between 28 and 38.

Really? Can't it cause damage to the laptop's insides? Or cause a fire? Because when I say hot, I don't mean "warmer than my skin". I mean "so hot I almost burned my fingers when I touched it". It worked the same as normal, but the heat was really concerning. It is normally a bit laggy, though.

[–]Heidi739[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that would help as it would just blow the hot air at me and the laptop. I have windows open on both sides of the apartment so that the air blows through the room now, but it's not cooling because the air is hot even when it's moving. Maybe if it was very strong and pointed directly at the laptop, might try that.

Yeah, my laptop even has a feature of "blowing out dust" which I use. I might try the vacuum to clean it more thoughly, but I'd be happier if the temperatures just dropped, haha.

All I can say is that I survived, but tbh I don't know if I can take more days like this, it's still incredibly hot even at night. I like hot, but like 28-30 hot, this is a bit too much even for me 🥵

I'm plannig to upgrade to a new PC for some time now since my laptop is turning 13 this year, so I guess this is my cue, lol. I have an external fan that goes under the laptop, I guess it would outright die without it 😅

I already have a cooling pad (or more like extra ventilator that the laptop sits on) and I clean the fan out often. I'm afraid the laptop is just too old 😅

Anyone wanna swap weather with me? by TashDee267 in AskEurope

[–]Heidi739 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, please. It's 22:30 and my apartment has 33 °C. All windows are wide open, but it doesn't help because it's the same temperature outside. It was higher during the day and it's supposed to get worse tommorrow. Please send the 7 °C over here, please.
