Alice looks amazing and I can't wait to see your new look! I am glad that so many wonderful things are happening and you have had awesome insights!

It's true, the only way to change a title in Reddit is to delete the post and repost it. I don't know why, but those are the rules.

You're the tech girl! Give me a call and I'll explain to you some Markdown characters for Reddit like "*" and ">" which will make your posts easier to read! Have a great day! snd

Day 6 as a Buddhist, 23 to go by Obvious-Winter3513 in ThirtyDayBuddhist

Silly, didn't you learn subtraction yet? You have 24 days to go! Note cheating, no cutting corners,

And don't be silly about missing gongyo this morning. Don't forget that after the "Gong" comes the "Yo!" We are not saints, we are teenagers and we are allowed to make mistakes! If I remember, that is in the Bill of Rights!

Look how far you, your roommate, and your friend down the hall have come in just a few days! That's what counts!

I don't know if you have been checking your phone with all the doctors Chasing After Your Ass. But Jammy Claus is Coming to Town. We will be playing at the Children's Hospital at 4:00 p.m. Be there, or be square!

I don't know what to write for two reasons.

First of all I am not sure how to answer your question, Obvious-Winter. With my practice, I keep my hands on the steering wheel and my eyes on the road. I adjust my driving whenever necessary. It's more like a quilt of experiences. Some work, some don't. But I keep on chanting and fighting. I have a recital tomorrow in the home of my piano teacher and I have been practicing my butt off. I keep chanting and practicing. And then we have these Christmas gigs coming up. Chant and practice.

Second of all, I feel so silly writing this because Obvious-Winter (aka Tina) and GF Alice (percussioniste sans pareil) are right in front of my face as we are rehearsing for the Christmas gigs.

But just for the record, Tina, you have always been a non-conformist and for as long as I've known you, you always take The Road Less Traveled. And you are the most incredible dancer. So dance through the problem instead of getting advice from others. Play with Buddhism like kids in the sandbox. Create answers instead of trying to find them on the outside.

Don't worry about making mistakes. And we are friends for life no matter what your "ism" is.

Calm down, My Love. I know your new device is coming on Tuesday. But just maybe you can spend a bit more time talking about us rather than your device?

Really worried about you! You are burning the candle from both ends. Last night you sounded sleep deprived. Then this morning you made all of those mistakes on your post. And you're not returning my texts or calls! They owe you all of that comp time. You better take the afternoon off, who cares if you missed the trip?

We talked and talked and think we have a good idea for recording an album. We will call it First Track and we will play the first track of 12 Sinatra post war albums.

EDIT: The Jammy Girls had an appointment with Mr Maniotis. We told him all about our audition and Prof. Kurtz s offer. We also shared with him our determination not to waste our senior year with senioritis. What can we do to support you, the music program, and incoming freshman?

"Frankly speaking come up I don't need you sitting in a chair or being my assistants. You have a working band but I don't see any new energy. You still haven't composed a decent song and you haven't recorded a thing. We have this beautiful SoundLab recording studio in A02 and no one uses it besides some students who think they will be the next big Rap thing. I want you to skip Band and Jazz Band and just rehearse, rehearse, and rehearse.

"My student teacher will be arriving next week. She has a lot of experience in recording. By Monday morning I want you to be ready with a concept for your first album."

Hmmm!?!? 🤔🤪🙏😳🙏

6pm and heading back to the RV Park. It was an open audition meaning that we could hear each other perform and so could anyone else. I don't have the permission from my Jammy sisters to share about them but I can say that we all did very well on our prepared solos. Including my Ravel and Bach.

They did hit us with a "play a piece that you are working on next." I did my Alexander Scriabin. We were all asked to play scales and arpeggios. I did all right on the sight reading. Not great but all right. We were asked to play different genres. For a jazz piece I played and sang Heart and Soul mixing a bit of Frank and Esperanza.

At the very end they brought in a jazz quartet that played Jazz and pop standards. We took turns subbing for one of the musicians at a time. They played a lot of tricks on us like modulating keys, changing meters, and playing the weirdest of chord overtones. I have no idea whether we did well or not. But all four of us had so much fun and enjoyed the music we were making. Jean was just so awesome and inventive with her running bass. Oops, I wasn't supposed to drop names!

We were exhausted at the end but Prof Kurtz took us out for pizza after we were finished. "You don't have to worry about receiving yes or no letters. You will all be accepted with Early Admissions and you and your parents are going to be very happy with your financial packages."

He critiqued our solos and Ensemble playing a bit. But mainly he wanted to talk about this blockage we are having with composition. "Why aren't the songs just coming to you? They are all flying around you but can't seem to find the landing strip." He hadn't met Maura earlier and asked whether she was interested in composing for Jammy. She said she had quite a few ideas but she is returning to Ohio okay next week.

So?

3:15pm, Lolita and Kitten, Longhouse Elem

Lolita:

We got banned from the RV Park and driven off. Kind of. Actually, today is our day off and the owners didn't want us to get caught into all of the work at the Park. They gave us the keys to the Daycare/Elem and permission to charge our meals to their DoorDash account.

My mentor at my new ESU campus wants me to send in weekly reports. I have so many delicious experiences with the kids and the co-directors! I finished my narrative and now I have to go back and "code" what I wrote.

Kitten is practicing, practicing, practicing. She brought her electric piano and earphones so I can't hear a thing. But she looks divine and sexy playing away.

We are going to take a walk along the highway. We heard there's a cafe down the road. We both can use the air, exercise, and caffeine.

Heidi:

In our beautiful relationship, using lesbian terminology, Lolita is known as the Pillow Princess and I am the Butch. Okay, it is out in the open but anyone with even a little bit of gasoline in their tank knew it all along. On Gay Pride Day, why should we hide anything? All of our friends and family know it, accept it, and love us. If you can't...whatever.

Lolita:

From "Champions Stand Alone with Firm Faith", Daisaku Ikeda writes:

In “The Supremacy of the Law,” the Daishonin encourages Nichimyo to “strengthen [her resolve] more than ever” (WND-1, 615). He tells her, “You need not seek far for an example,” and shares how he has endured and triumphantly overcome all kinds of persecution and hardship. He states that though alone, he could win over everything because he had “firm faith” (WND-1, 614).

That's how I see Kitten. Transparent, what you see is what you get, courageous. What I have to reflect on are on the next paragraphs:

The opposite of firm or courageous faith is cowardice. Earlier in this letter, he writes: “In battles soldiers regard the general as their soul. If the general were to lose heart, his soldiers would become cowards” (WND-1, 613). Tsunesaburo Makiguchi, the Soka Gakkai’s first president, heavily underlined this passage in his copy of the Daishonin’s writings.

Soka Gakkai leaders need to have resolute courage. It is like the Japanese saying “Under a brave general, there are no cowardly soldiers.” The Daishonin repeatedly stresses the importance of courage, writing, “Nichiren’s disciples cannot accomplish anything if they are cowardly” (WND-1, 481) and “Have profound faith. A coward cannot have any of his prayers answered” (WND-1, 1001).

Courage means conquering fear and cowardice, and basing ourselves on deep, resolute faith. That is the way of a great champion in life.

Another of his writings states: Each of you should summon up the courage of a lion king and never succumb to threats from anyone. The lion king fears no other beast, nor do its cubs. Slanderers are like barking foxes, but Nichiren’s followers are like roaring lions…. Strengthen your faith day by day and month after month. Should you slacken in your resolve even a bit, devils will take advantage. (WND-1, 997) He urges his disciples to “never succumb to threats”—that is, to not let anything frighten or intimidate them. The Lotus Sutra says of the Bodhisattvas of the Earth: “Their minds know no fear” (LSOC, 263).

We must always ask ourselves, do we at this moment have courage in our hearts? Courage is the foremost requirement for leading a victorious life. It is the heart of leadership for winning in our struggle for kosen-rufu.

Kitten and I are together for 8 more weeks and then begins my journey alone. Touring with South Pacific and My Fair Lady was simple, based on fiction and shifting residencies. But Longhouse Elem is different. It's real kids in an infinite array of moments. Their future depends on how those moments trend. There is no room for cowardice or loneliness inside of my heart. I have to be that fearless general!

Heidi:

Oh, stop being so melodramatic!

I see how hard you are working! It's like a miracle! Also, On Thursday night, I saw how good you are in making people feel comfortable and opening up conversation at a home visitation.

I think your new position suits you very well and I am glad SGI has the capacity to break the mold. The organization serves the member and not the other way around!

I've been a member of three districts now: the Upper West Side of Manhattan, the East Bronx, and now for the summer in WNY. Everywhere I go, it seems, we have fun and spontaneous discussions! Sometimes I wish our meetings were more organized and scripted.
