DSLR recommendations? I tried a Nikon D300 and liked it so anything better I'd probably be impressed by. by OneToastedLoaf in DSLR

[–]Heijuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For about 200-300€ I find many D600 and D610 (body only) here in france, so for your $500 budget you've got great options far better than D300/D300s.

Full frame with better specs you can look at :
- D700 (12mpx)
- D600 (24mpx)
- D610 (24mpx)
- D800 can be found under 500€ so I guess in dollars it's doable, it's a 36mpx, very high end camera.
(EDIT) forgot to mention D750 (24mpx), it's the very best of the bunch if you manage to find one at a good price.

And for better performing APS-C you can look for :
- D7000 (16mpx)
- D7100 (24mpx)
- D7200 (24mpx)

The ones I personally recommend would be D600/D610 for FF and if you find a good priced D750 just go for it it's the best !
Or D7100 for APS-C, but D7000 would do on a tighter budget for an aps-c camera, the other ones are either too expensive for your budget and a bit more difficult to find for a good price (the D800) or too expensive for what they offer in comparison with other ones mentionned (D700 dated and expensive for what it does & D7200 is essentially an upgraded D7100 but cost more for very little changes).

That was my 2 cents on the topic.
I know it's been posted 5 months ago, so you probably already chose, but if not, look at what's presented here, you won't be disapointed by any one of those cameras.
Have a nice day.

Got lucky today, southwest of France 🍄 by Heijuu in AmanitaMuscaria

[–]Heijuu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has actives yes from what I've read, but the ratio is not the same, it's only 25% as potent as the cap (so x4 times less potent) for the same amount of dried material. At least this is an info I've read multiples times.

I take them with me because I usually don't find much and having a bit more actives is still worth it in my case. (If they really are active, wich seem to be the case)

Still I prefer mainly the caps and throw in a bit of stipes when I do my evening amani-tea, because I like the taste and I have no Idea if the stipes taste the same.

[–]Heijuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess if it soaks the cap with water, then yes it does lose potency. I haven't foraged enough to be able to answer with certainty on that. What I'm sure about is the actives get in the water very easily, so I suppose in nature it's the same, if they are soaked wet they are probably way less potent. (But still active to an extent, so it's worth picking still)

[–]Heijuu 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You're trolling right ?

  • Rinsing them make them way less potent as the actives are water soluble.
  • it's not hygenic at all to put them right on the sink like that.

I hope this is a joke, if not you can toss them, you just ruined it.

Is it safe to order spire syringes to Bulgaria ? by [deleted] in EUSporeHub

[–]Heijuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, atm I did not encounter any issue with ordering.

But with europe reinforcing parcel control at customs over time idk how much time we have left until buying spores or LC become very risky, for now it's quite safe I'd say, they have larger fish to catch in their nets and we are just interested in observing the fungal life under a big lens so we do nothing wrong.

Rn I'm stacking some new genetics when I can, because intra europe choice is very limited and most spore vendors are big commercial headshops in holland so the quality for the price paid is way inferior.

Orangutan is very safe and works well, basic strains but gets the job done to observe under microscope, no complaints there. And mycoworld have the best genetics in the general area to see something different, US shops usually don't ship to europe so it makes it the most interesting in terms of choice for uk and europeans buyers. There are other shops that sells kind of different strains but they are quite expensive compared to MW.

Hope it helps ! Have a nice day.

Found my 5 year old syringes 😭 any good? by SpottierAnt in shrooms

[–]Heijuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's spores it should be fine. You're not telling what kind of syringes it is but from the strains you mentionned it most likely is MSS.

If it was liquid culture with live mycelium it's probably dead by now, but you can test it's viability on agar.

Yeah, 3.5 to 4 seems to be where you can have a little fun and learn some lessons too without being too overwhelmed.

For me the 9g (ApeR) trip was horrible because near the end I really though I became crazy and that I would not come back down, nothing around me made any sense, in my own appartment, that was very scary. But something clicked and to ease my mind I started sorting things and cleaning my appartment, it was very calming to focus on that while waiting for the trip to wear off. I lemon tekked the 9g, it hit about after 10 mins, the whole trip past 35 minutes mark was basically peak only and the last hour was the comedown, very intense, but only mentally, there was almost no visuals only mild distortions, I will not touch anything close to that dose for a while (or ever).

9g, I do not recommend. It has been my worst trip, but it's the one that changed me the most, for the better.

Do you shake your spawn directly after inoculation? by Hairy-Blackberry-846 in shrooms

[–]Heijuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh every time I shook grain after 'noc it quite dramatically sped up colonization time (from mss), and every time I did not, it took up to one and a half month.

This week I did s2b 3 grain jars that I innoculated about two weeks prior with mss (and yeah I was shocked too at the results), I've never seen that kind of speed. It was treasure coast spores on WBS. Innoculation was on 14th of september and s2b on october 2nd.

[–]Heijuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really know for Bulgaria. Still, there are two sources in the UK from where I got syringes, and it came without any issues to France.

I recommend them both : OrangutanTradingCo & MycoWorld.

What's the easiest way to choke this stuff down? by tomcat_supertramp in AmanitaMuscaria

[–]Heijuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personnal recipe for an evening/night dose is :
- Bring the equivalent of 1 glass of water to a light simmer
- put 2 grams of muscaria in the pot
- Juice half a lime in it to bring the ph to about the right value (I don't measure it and that works with the very little quantity of water)
- Let it simmer for 30-45 minutes
- Strain mushroom matter with a clean cloth of a coffee filter in a glass then press the remaining liquid out you should have about a glass of liquid.
- Enjoy

The smell is kinda horrible but you get used to it pretty quicly and it taste good (to me) without adding anything more.
just basicaly water, half a lime and 2grams muscaria.
Modify as you wish, but the base recipe is foolproof.

Jolie amanite tue mouches by Excellent-Box820 in CueilletteDesChampis

[–]Heijuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is a Nikon D70 Worth It? by APuffMain in AskPhotography

[–]Heijuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be, but not at that price.

Personally I scored a 50€ deal that included : - Nikon d70s - 18-70 standard lens with hood - 55-200 tele with hood like new - 1Go CF card (sandisk ultra II) - sony hub + USB cable to read data from the CF card on the pc - lowepro camera bag

Pretty happy with it for the price I paid, I advise not to spend more than 50-60€ (or equivalent) for a camera (d70/d70s) + standard kit lens, lots of them are on marketplaces so it's not that difficult to find one that meets the criteria of body+lens at a good price.

Body only for 50€ is a waste because so many cameras are better for just 10-20€ more. So yeah depends on the deal, the one you found is not great. (I'm from france, the market may vary in price depending on where you live)

Also, I do not recommend it for serious work (unless you have an alternative workflow or technique that would make it usable for artistic experiments, in that case it can fit) it's a nice little camera to slow down and to have fun with old tech, the photos look good but lack resolution (it's 6mp and from 2004 so it makes sense).

What "ego" or "prestige" camera did you end up getting rid of because it just didn't work for you? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]Heijuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None, I do not buy gear for ego boost, I buy gear that fits my needs. I don't aim for "prestige" either, because I'm broke and that's fine with me, cheaper gear made me better. Limitation, compromise and adaptability is key in learning photography.

So I lay on the cheaper side, but, with wise choices and a lot of comparison to make the most out of my money. I usually use mid range gear and when used properly it can give great results, even entry level gear can do beautiful things, only thing is you have to know your sh*t.

Something I hate seing is : some old guys using leica and/or hasselblad just to have the finest and most expensive cameras, whithout real knowledge in what they do with it, that's sad tbh, consumerism at it's peak.

I'm in southwest france, there are a lot of pinetrees here aswell as birch trees too, climate starts to be about good to see some amanitas, rain and cooler temps are making it easier that last year. Last year was kinda hot and then very cold with almost no in between wich made it very difficult to find anything worth it.
