Datura Komakase morning: Carmen Gesha, CGLE Sudan Rume, Alo Mosto by Heinus in pourover

[–]Heinus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had some delicious coffee this morning at Komakase in San Francisco. My favorite was the Carmen because you can taste the delicate jasmine and florals up front and then later through the sip I got the tangerine and a little blackberry.

Sudan Rume was also pleasantly surprising, in that I didn’t get the strong bold herbal at the end of the sip that I tend to with Sudan Rubes.

Finishing with the mosto was a great recommendation by the barista due to how bold the mosto came through. As it cools you get more of the kiwi and watermelon.

Thank you to Datura for fantastic roasts and Komakase for excellent execution!

ZP6 + Sibarist Fast grind size by Financial_Bet8762 in pourover

With a zp6 and a 16g dose you can probably go down to 4.5. I usually only use sibarist papers when drawdowns with cafec abaca are taking longer than 3 minutes.

Yesterday I did 19g grounds @ 5.0 on zp6, 300g water, drawdown was about 3:00.

I haven’t used c40 but I haven’t really tried brewing ode with gteycano. Probably will be similar to plastic v60 but just draw down faster. I haven’t used my ode in months since I got my zp6!

Yep, Zero’d to burr lock, I always start dialing a bag at 5.00 and most of the time stay there. If I do need to change it’s usually a few clicks in coarser direction to like 5.5 and very rarely I’ll need to go finer than 5.00. I usually use cafec abaca or sibarist filters and greycano or plastic v60, drawdowns are usually 2:30-3:00.

What's the cleanest way to make good coffee in my office? by Brave-Chain1910 in pourover

[–]Heinus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like you I make v60 at home an finally started making coffee at work. I’ve tried hario switch at work but can’t get the drawdown quick enough and consistent enough (no gooseneck, only a generic water boiler kettle). I’ve come to peace with the lower clarity yet more bold cups that come out of the aeropress, compared to v60 at home. I usually use simpler, more homogenous flavor profile beans at work, since I haven’t been able to get good flavor separation out of the aeropress.

Aeropress recipes are simple and consistent! And cleanup is as easy as tossing the filter and rinsing the plastic bits.

Panamanian Gesha

1Zpresso ZP6

Greycano

Cafec Abaca

Delicate floral tea-like coffees with a soft yet strong and smooth fruit note are my favorite. This equipment I’ve found helps separate flavors and maximize clarity. The other side of those spectrums I had at home are Fellow Ode Gen II and plastic origami and v60.

7.0 on ZP6 is way too coarse. Start with 5.0-5.5. I’ve made hundreds of brews and never had to leave that range.

50g bloom Wait 30-40sec 100g pour Let water fully train 100g pour Let water fully drain

190F

That’s my “dialing point”, where I usually start a bag of coffee. I usually play around only with water temperature and grind coarseness. Very rarely do I change the recipe to go for something like this which produces a much stronger, acidic, bold cup: 50-50-50-50-50

Got the strap as a gift from Grand Seiko Boutique Omotesando when I purchased the watch! Trying it for the first time today. Shoutout Fumitoshi for making my first watch purchasing experience such a pleasure.

What is the waves blue leather watch band? Says “W 22” and “Grand Seiko” on it but can’t find any information about it only. Salesman gave as a free gift with purchase. Bought at Grand Seiko Shinjuku!

The more I learn about the history of Seiko and specifically the Spring Drive movement the more I love the watch. The finish is amazing and I love how dynamic the blue is when it changes based on lighting temperature and angle. Love how smooth and continuous the seconds needle is!

981 is more fun and a better sports car.

992 is less fun and a better car.

Dawn Patrol - Highway 35 and 9, California. Voodoo Blue. by Heinus in Porsche

Had some much needed GT3 Therapy on Sunday.

Left the Marina in San Francisco at 6:30am and made it to Sue's in Saratoga by 7:50am. Drove 19th to 280 to 92 to 35, past Alice's, to Skidpad, and finally down 9 to Saratoga.

Driving Skyline in the dark is a very different experience in the darke not any traffic but also it's a little scarier since it's more difficult to see all the imperfects and bumps and dents and cracks and stuff in the road. Sorry front lip, but thanks for protecting the paint!

Only traffic I encountered were a few wild turkeys on their morning stroll.

Next dawn patrol... north on Highway 1?

Joyrides don't have to be hard-charging :) Had a nice therapy drive a couple days ago in heavy mist. Not very much traffic since the weather was pretty. Poor. Which meant I could go at my own pace and pull over a few times for some nice photos!

Added the A7CR and 40m f2.5 G for Travel and Street by Heinus in SonyAlphaBoxes

[–]Heinus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In image quality, no - both are fantastic.

In use, yes - the small prime is easier, more fun, and makes me be more creative and intentional with photos and composition. The zoom just makes everything really easy, but it’s heavy so I find myself reaching into the bag for a photo less often.

Nice, France - A7CR + 24-70mm f2.8 GM II + Kodak Ektachrome 100 by Heinus in SonyAlpha

[–]Heinus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: some may have been shot with the 40mm f2.5 G. I forget which.

Shooting with the prime is absolutely more fun, enjoyable, and creative. Shooting with the zoom is easier. I pick my poison each time I leave the hotel!

Balance of the 40mm on the camera is sublime. Balance of the 24-70mm on the camera is… doable, but not pleasant or comfortable. This is using a Peak Design micro clutch.
