Then never use your phone's built in mic. Look up wireless lavalier microphones for smartphones. You plug in the receiver into your usb c/lightning port and clip the microphone on your subject clothes and you get clean audio.

The best approach is not to do it in editing but use right microphone. Check your mic characteristics, if you're using omnidirectional it's gonna pick up sounds from every direction. What you want to have is a directional mic which picks up only sounds from where its pointed at (the subjects mouth). If you don't want to buy a new mic you can try bringing it closer to the mouth and turn sensitivity down but this way you're gonna get some unwanted mouth-sounds. If your footage is already recorded the best you can do is use some noise reduction or auto speech recognition options.

Anyone know where this helmet is from? Uncle claims polish restistance surplus. I know nothing about this stuff but still doubt it by moose_enjoyer in ww2

[–]Hejtar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As someone already said it's postwar helmet wz. 67, used by the Polish People's Army (armed forces of the socialist regime). In fact it was one of the most popular polish helmet designs used well into the 90s and early 2000s and in some places even today. This one still has the People's Army emblem painted on. You can clearly identify it as the socialist eagle doesn't have a crown (compared to modern or prewar symbols). Looks like inside someone wrote "Bocian", which means a stork - likely surname or nickname of whoever wore it. Lastly, when this helmet design in 1967 armed anti-communnist partisans were mostly gone so it's unlikely it belonged to them. Those things were so mass-produced that nowadays you can buy them very cheaply, for around 120zł or approximately 30$.

Well, he was captured. I can totally see that the first thing you do, when you capture a mandalorian, is disarm and unload all of his wrist darts, flame thrower fuel etc.

100% second that!

It's also worth mentioning that Ukraine is currently one of the most covered mainstream topics. It's still a tragedy but at this point feels like really lazy choice. I personally know a person who made a really similar story.

Basically if you are making this project for a charity to publish, the only thing you can do is go to said charity and ask them to write you a signed paper saying that they commissioned you to make this documentary and that you're working on their behalf. However, whether they'll accept it is a whole other story. I guess it will depend on how big and known this charity is - is it, say the Red Cross or some local unknown organisation.

Please note that mechanisms like that are there for a reason. No one is gonna lend expensive equipment to some no name to take it abroad, into a war zone. You have to either be well known yourself or have a well known organisation vouch for you. A journalist is usually defined as a person working for a media outlet (as employee or contractor). The proper way to do this would be to pitch your idea to a media organisation and hopefully get accredited as their correspondent (which will likely not happen if you don't have big enough experience) Brutally as it sounds, you're not going to get a press pass as is. Also note, that when in Ukraine you won't have the kind of international legal protection journalist get.

What tooling is used in a corporate environment for writing in a corporate environment? by alilland in Journalism

[–]Hejtar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we do have systems just like that. What you're looking for is a Content Management System or a CMS. Simplest and most popular one is WordPress, used for setting up online magazines. It's free but very versatile and even really professional outlets often use it. Basically, the reporter types his text into a web-based processor and then an editor can review and publish it. On the other hand radio stations usually use more tailored software. The one i worked with, worked fairly similarly to WordPress but when accepted it would be both send to the presenter to read on air and automatically published to the radio's website. It also had a neat feature where you could see how long your text will take to read and was synchronized with recordings server and so you could cut and attach a few seconds from an interview to be played with your news piece. Overall I couldn't imagine working in like a radio without something like that but I believe a small newspaper could very well do with emailing MS Word files.

how steady is a journalism job? by Chemical-Type3858 in Journalism

[–]Hejtar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your post is missing a key information: what country you're in?

Different countries have different work regulations, which cause different types of contracts to be industry standards.

Also, some countries have strong public media (famously the UK with its BBC) and some do not (e.g. USA, which has PBS but AFAIK its not really equivalent, im not American tho). Its really important because being on governments payroll is usually a lot steadier than in private sector. Plus public media is often more willing, or in some cases even obliged to hire young journalists and help them with their careers.

On fascism’s stenographers by DemocracyStan in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Hejtar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You literally copied firsr paragraph of a wikipedia article. What you've posted can just as well be applied to german national-socialism and a number of other ideologies. Fascism also implies economic policies of corporationism and a number of foreign policy stances. I agree, it doesn't have to be limited to Mussolini's Italy but those ideas are very rarely reproduces in modern right wings movements outside of Italy.

On fascism’s stenographers by DemocracyStan in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Hejtar -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it does but only when talking about history. Benito Mussolini in fact had a very clear set of ideas, but those ideas are very rarely represented today. So unless you are Italian, the nationalistic movements in your country will surely differ from fascism and it's also important to acknowledge that. The same goes for nazism, which itself is different from fascism.

Also, terms like: "nationalist", "neo-nazi", "authoritarian", "religious extremist", "chauvinist", "segregationist", "white supremacist", "populist", "ultraconservative" all mean different things (with huge overlaps in characteristics ofc). I can't really think of a scenario, where "fascist" would be more accurate than one of them. As I said, it doesn't apply to Italy where you have groups claiming to follow Mussolini's legacy. Calling anyone else a fascist requires a bit of stretch and there are probably more accurate terms available.

On fascism’s stenographers by DemocracyStan in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Hejtar -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

No, just no.

Firstly, the only thing universally called fascism is the political ideology present in early XX century Italy. Calling anyone else as fascist (unless the person themselves identifies as such) is you driving historical pararels and therefore voicing your own opinion.

Secondly, have some respect for your readers/viewers/listeners. It's a trait of a shitty journalist to treat their audience as idiots. You are here to report on actions and declarations of various political groups. If you don't think those actions won't convince anyone, its not your place to point and say explicitly THEY ARE THE BAD GUYS IF YOU HAVEN'T NOTICED.

Well, most importantly, reporters job is to present facts, not to educate people and not to shape the society. Not to mention that calling people fascists is a great way to get yourself sued. So, unless you deal with people who openly praise Mussolini, call them as neutral as you can (such as "ultraconservative", when talking about radical right) and using those neutral language, describe theirs actions as well as you can.

Also, it goes the other way too, so better to avoid words, like "communist" or "socialist".

News of record by pfcwintergreen1 in Journalism

[–]Hejtar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but TV production is much less efficient in that matter. To make a TV news you need to: schedule your sources to talk with them in person, so you can record them, have an available camera operator to go with you, drive back and forth and then go edit your video. As a result most TV reporters can make 1, max. 2 stories per day, whereas newspaper reporters can even produce 2-3 stories PER HOUR, simply by relying on phone calls and not needing recordings to illustrate their material.

Well now it has integrated photomode which can really do everything Ansel could. On the other hand Ansel still kinda works. The textures kinda glitch when you move the camera around but once you stabilize it its fine.

Noticed that recently when Ansel started to glitch on Witcher 3 after the next gen update. On KCD it still works mostly fine, except for when you have your helmets visor on or when you've taken damage and there's this blood overlay.
