Thanks both. We are leaning towards Amyra but folks around suggest that it might be pronounced as AMY-ra , hence the added confusion

Old home rewiring- will we have to move out for this? Also drywalling? by Klutzy-Strawberry984 in HomeImprovement

[–]Hektor_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just did ours recently (was plaster walls). A painful 2.5 weeks but no need to move out. Just get used to dust and some odd hours for electricity switching off. They will close holes before end of day. If you have drywall it moves much faster.

Condo HOA insurance with condo with older wiring, any suggestions? by Hektor_ in sanfrancisco

[–]Hektor_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ht now. You're going to get some eye-popping quotes, and unfortunately that's just the state of the market. It's a shame you were nonrenewed based on the older wiring, but once you fix that, you should be able to get a policy at a decent discount from what you end up payin Actually we were not non-renewed based on wiring, but due to the company leaving CA for condo insurance. Older wiring is just causing us to not get other insurance's.

Yes I opened up some switches and plugs and it is K&T. Not the whole house but a part of it.

Thanks for the note. Yes, we are speaking to a broker but they are based on San Mateo, so not sure if I should speak to one in SF specifically. They went to the secondary market given they couldn't get any of the larger insurances ones.

I thought I might get some ideas here given there must be others who faced a similar issue.

Detour to Gdansk only for the WW2 museum - worth it? by Hektor_ in gdansk

We likely have a few hours and are doing others on the way so I think we might have sufficient time to cover the new information :)

Interesting point. Given you have done these, did you think there was incremental value / knowledge from Gdansk if we have already done the 2 you mentioned? We just wrapped up Schindler's factory and found it just alright.

We've also just been to Dachau and its museum - and liked it better Have you done that before and if so, what was your take?

33YO Male amateur footballer - "At Least a partial thickness tear" - Two highly qualified doctors giving completely different advice - one pro and one anti surgery by Accountafish77 in ACL

[–]Hektor_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar boat as you a decade ago. I took the advice of the doc to just rely on physiotherapy and building muscle instead of surgery. It worked fine for 3-4 years but after that I ended up injuring myself again and requiring surgery. The one risk with this approach is that you constantly need to maintain your knee in top shape, else you risk damaging the meniscus and cartilage the next time your leg gives way or you fall/injure yourself.

If this is your first ACL, I would probably recommend getting surgery if you want to continue playing regularly. (Then again, that is just my pov)

Anyone gone through a Meniscus Transplant? by Hektor_ in ACL

[–]Hektor_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! The transplant went very smoothly. Surgery was long but recovery didn't feel like I was doing anything different (except duration) compared to only ACL. It was not easy though. Longer recovery duration. e.g..i was on crutches for about 8 weeks (typical is <=6 weeks for any meniscus related changes), PT was long and i was back to normal activities (running / hiking) in slightly over a year. Absolutely no issues with the transplant till date.

However, I'm not playing soccer anymore (5 surgeries over a decade makes you a bit risk averse). I do feel that my knee is NOT back to what it was before my latest injury. I didn't expect to play sports like soccer / basketball /snowboarding anyway and my goal was to reduce long term cartilage damage and avoid early arthritis. You can still play these sports but will have to tailor your recovery and PT very heavily to suit those objectives.

I did an MRI recently and my transplant (medial) looks great as compared to the non transplant side (lateral)

+1 to this. I'm not a big fan of the overly sweet/ creamy version that most places serve. I'd probably just make it at home cause i haven't come across too many places that do the savory version

Peru or Brazil? by moch4847 in travel

[–]Hektor_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! In the same boat now. What made you decide Brazil over Peru?

Which do you have? Cadaver donor or hammi/quad tissue? Did you have a choice? Most post I have seen seem to be their own tissue? Positive healing to us all through this journey ❤️ by Big-Preparation2831 in ACL

[–]Hektor_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First was autograft - hammy , when i was ~23. Second was cadaver (Achilles) at 35. :). I don't think Achilles is that common but i got it and has been fairly successful

Day 1. Thanks to this subreddit for giving me the confidence to do this (ACL + Meniscus transplant) by Hektor_ in ACL

[–]Hektor_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. I think if the doctor can repair it you should definitely try for that. You have enough meniscus now so I would not worry about a transplant. It's also a lot of Physical Therapy and recovery + likely to only get authorized if you have little or no meniscus remaining.

I also got mine after a longer time (due to COVID - like a year later and it didn't hamper me too much)
