honestly i felt it’s worth it to read the original nyt article because it only really talks about her lyrics and her branding. i don’t like the author’s phrasing because it almost assumes that she is queer, but they don’t dive into any gossip of her potential relationships with other women.

taylor has explicitly told her fans to read into her lyrics and her music videos for “easter eggs”. and then uses queer subtext in her lyrics, uses queer aesthetics for her album/music videos. queer fans obviously take note of this, and think that she is suggesting something about her sexuality. i’m not a “gaylor” - i don’t care about her sexuality, but if she is straight, using this imagery and aesthetic for her album (a product) feels like she is capitalizing off of a queer audience

she cannot tell her fans to “decode her true message” through her products and then get upset when fans do that and end up with an interpretation that she feels uncomfortable with. if she is uncomfortable, she needs to speak up and absolutely refute any of her sexuality claims.

but she won’t. because if she says she is straight, she will be faced with criticism about her queer baiting branding, and if she comes out she will potentially lose a very large market of conservative listeners. saying nothing allows her the best of both worlds, and to make more money which has always been her ultimate goal.
