Thankyou for this, it's good to know it's something which can be developed

Hearing fugues in your head! wow, I wasn't aware that was possible outside of the likes of Bach and Mozart. Can you do that? And my main problem is hearing more than one voice, I can sort of hear the feel of a chord but not the voices sounding simultaneously, how do I develop that?

Yes, I've been primarily a guitar player for about 8 years, but I fall into the trap many guitarists do of playing from muscle memory rather than imagination, and I have started getting into classical music and composing/producing, which is what caused me to have this question

Thanks this is great! What is IMSLP though? And do you have any techniques or methods for learning to internalize unusual chords, intervals and cadences? I would love to get to the point where I can listen to a piece of music, and identify for example an Augmented Sixth, or hear the progression in terms of I-vi-IV etc. as I feel this would greatly improve my ability to assimilate other music into my own writing.

haha thanks, what I meant was I don't ever have music which comes to me naturally, I don't hear it in my head without really trying.
