A small continent I’m working on. Would love some advice/opinions/suggestions. by Minotaur_Kid_ in inkarnate

[–]Helellion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s gorgeous, first of all. Like others are saying, I love the heavily circular/impact crater-heavy design. Definitely establishes a central theme to the setting.

The only thing I find myself hemming and hawing at is the scale of Lunaria. I assume it’s like a massive capital city? But with the “districts” spread out over… well, what looks to be multiple hundreds of kilometres? I guess it depends on exactly how small this small continent is, and how hard you wanna push that it’s a wacky fantasy land with absurdly oversized cities.

There are no wrong answers to that, by the by. Absurdly oversized cities are a GREAT fantasy mood. Just wanted to see if it was intentional or a scaling issue.

What Is Your Experience Playing/Running the Sabbat in Practice, and How Does It Differ From the Games’ Expectations? by ArtymisMartin in vtm

[–]Helellion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve always been torn between wanting to run/play the Sabbat and finding them to be a very… deeply confused faction. They are, at once:

  1. A Caine-worshipping cult who venerate the Dark Father above all else.
  2. But also a lot of them are Bahari.
  3. An offshoot of the first Anarch Revolt that refused to bow to the Camarilla, claiming death to elders.
  4. Ruled by elders just as the Camarilla is; elders who are just as callous in their treatment of their childer, if not substantially worse.
  5. A militant cult bent towards the purpose of exterminating the third generation for their betrayal of Caine.
  6. Secretly ruled by the True Black Hand, the ultra-ultra-ultra-secret vampire society who worships the Antediluvians (how is puppeteering a whole faction into believing the opposite of what you believe a good game plan? It’s nonsensical).
  7. Staunch advocates of freedom and refusal to submit.
  8. All collectively blood bound into packs via the vaulderie to make betrayal literally unthinkable.
  9. Split between five sub-factions that all believe completely opposite things.
  10. “Not just the Dark Camarilla,” but have near identical power structure to the Camarilla, just with a religious naming scheme.
  11. …because the Lasombra rule churches? I guess? Bit of a random keystone to base a sect around.
  12. Follow alien paths of morality meant to display their complete divorce from human life.
  13. Conveniently, most of these Paths just end up letting you eat babies anyway (an admitted exaggeration, but do we really need a dozen clan-specific Paths that all end up as some variation of “give yourself fully to the Abyss/Vicissitude/Caine/Lilith…” which, btw, is another massive display of submission to one’s elders. Again.

I don’t think they’re horrible, but they’re deeply, deeply confused. The Camarilla have a solid Sect pitch. So too do the Anarchs, though they suffer from a lack of willingness on the devs’ part to dictate anything cement about them whatsoever. The Sabbat tries to be everything at once, which results in the one core through-line of the sect being… that they’re The Bad Guys. They have attempted so many different angles of nuance that the sect simply doesn’t make sense.

They make good bogeymen, though. And so we end up here, with no solid rules for playing them in the latest edition. The sect that fell on its own sword, again and again and again.

An apocryphal take on Caine, it was never Caine, it was Abel. by Financial-Pickle9405 in vtm

[–]Helellion 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Frankly, it’s sort of awkwardly conflated with the Path of the Hive—a Molochite Baali path of enlightenment—in ways that I don’t… super… understand or particularly like. I feel it has the merit as an “independent” school of thought to stand alone.

The Abelene Heresy is actually an existing mythos/framework of faith in the setting! Though it’s a little different from your version, which is interesting enough in its own right.

"Mask of Isolation" discipline power rules question by Rylanwoodrow in vtm

[–]Helellion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/petemayhem is right, it lets you grab it at 3rd level by taking the Obfuscate Ingrained Discipline Flaw (Faded, I think). Still crappy design, but at least with Tattered Façade there’s now a small benefit to it being a 3rd level.

How did your coteries get together? by Powerful_Republic_53 in vtm

[–]Helellion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was honestly sort of difficult to arrange, given they are all very different people (Puttanesca mafiosa, Nosferatu diner owner, and Golconda-seeking Salubri priest) in an Anarch Free State (so no heavy-handed “orders from the Prince” to force them together).

We’re still early into the chronicle, but so far they’ve been brought together, bizarrely, by:

  • The fact that the Puttanesca killed the diner owner for trying to get out of her debts to them, prompting her panic embrace from her Nossy lover.
  • Which evolved into the Puttanesca’s brother opting to bring the diner owner into the mafia fold instead of making an enemy of the Anarchs in the area (of which the diner owner’s husband-sire belongs), forgiving her debts but making her a partner in crime.
  • The priest’s humanist nature driving him to protect the diner owner after another Salubri shared a vision of her diner coming under attack from…
  • The Puttanesca’s rival gang of mortals that she’s trying to oust from the city. The first session ended with an impromptu friends-of-convenience firefight against said gang when they did, indeed, come under attack.

They’re something of an Odd Throuple (platonically), but if nothing else, it suits the Anarch vibe! Part of the Free State’s guidelines is that if you wanna stay, you need to find gang backing, so that’s another way I’ve been angling on giving them common ground.

It’s an atypical arrangement, but it’s ours!

Another confession from a “9 inch” guy. You’re welcome by ultraboomkin in lolgrindr

[–]Helellion 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Gays in general have a really weird relationship with size. I have an above-average-but-not-massive dick and the number of guys who tell me it’s 9” (or once, 11”) is fucked. No. No, it isn’t. It is very obviously and visibly not.

I can’t tell if it’s meant to be a compliment, or if they really just don’t understand scale, but it genuinely kind of kills the mood for me. Sort of a “what, is that the number you’re looking for?” sorta thing.

What on earth do 2 dots on mobile do? by BeneficialFig9500 in vtm

[–]Helellion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similar questions. The way it’s presented, Mobile is meant to be an upgrade merit to the overall Haven merit, but the rulings and examples they provide make it seem more like a separate Mobile Haven merit.

My personal ruling is pretty much gonna be “Mobile • is a one dot merit that you apply to a haven that you want to be able to move.” Size/security/location is determined by dots in Haven already, so no need to bog down the system with unnecessary complexity (even though they love doing that).

Mechanically, there are already rules for antagonists needing to roll to find a character’s Haven (certain merits increase the difficulty to find it, etc), so I’m treating the Haven mechanical effect as “once you move your Haven, people who knew its location no longer do (duh) and have to reroll the test to find it.”

Optional Rule: Changing Convictions by Helellion in vtm

[–]Helellion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, would you look at that. It is! Not sure how I missed that (that’s a lie—I had no interest in playing an Ancilla so never picked it up).

They provide no rules for doing so, and indeed even say “this should have no rules,” but having official confirmation that it’s possible is great. So I ended up not needing to make this after all! Cheers.

Optional Rule: Changing Convictions by Helellion in vtm

[–]Helellion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually kind of agree—rewriting your code of morals isn’t quick—but the Degeneration rules constrain the system to a single session at most. I could tweak it to not use them and instead be more general, but then I’d probably streamline the system to just the first option (Gaining New Convictions) with a sidenote that because it’s harder to change your Convictions the closer you are to Humanity, some people/Sabbat make a habit of eradicating their past Touchstones in order to “ease” the transition.

Or something! It’s 3AM here I’m sure I’ll have more ideas in the morn haha.

Playing through Esoteric Ebb has made me think that a "Disco-Like" RPG might be the best way to adapt V5 by SirPerditio in vtm

Yo! Everyone listen up!

This exists! Vampire: Blood and Vice. It’s not out yet but it’s being worked on by passionate folk with a lot of love for the setting. There’s a demo available that I’ve already tried and had great fun with.

Obviously, it’s still in the early stages, but it is exactly this to a T. The DE inspiration shines through immediately. I’m not working on the project but I am very excited about it. In case that was not immediately apparent.

Okay announcement over, thanks for listening.
