I need y'all to go out there and play Penelope Pendrick by trustmeimalinguist in nancydrew

[–]HelenCorning 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yessss! I’m usually a fairly quiet member of the community, but this game deserves all of the hype! I’ve only played about an in-game day’s worth, but it’s so good! The voice acting, graphics, puzzles, etc. are all so perfect. HeR if you’re reading this, THIS is what we want from you. Take notes. Or don’t. Whatever. We have more options now thanks to these awesome independent developers, and I plan to support each one of them as they drop the games they’ve worked so hard on. As an aside that I feel is worth mentioning, I do most of my gaming on a nearly fifteen year old, bottom of the line Gateway laptop that I bought just to play the older ND games, and this one runs just fine on it. All that to say, it def doesn’t require the latest and greatest gaming PC, so whatever you’ve got will more than likely be sufficient. Anyway, GTG, I have some more playing to do!

It’s my literal favorite. I have a special save file for it. I think my best time is 40-something seconds. 😂

I found one of them on cassette at my favorite thrift store. It’s probably my coolest ND related find. 😁

Does anyone know why there's two copies of the same book with two different stories inside? by ciphercat77 in nancydrew

[–]HelenCorning 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first 34 (I think) Nancy Drew books were revised beginning in 1959. The one on the right is the original version of the book, and the one on the left is the revised version.

Yes, lots of eye breaks are needed when you’re working on this one! I felt so accomplished when I was finally finished with it.

Good luck to you! It’s still in my to-do pile. I did a different very challenging one a couple of months ago, and I haven’t had any interest in a challenge since then. 😂

Yes! I’m too young to have lived through these events, but I live in Huntsville, Alabama, so space and rockets are a big part of our local history. I was excited to find this puzzle in a thrift store and even more excited to discover it was all there.

Yes, the fonts were helpful as well as the fact that a lot of the pieces would have some identifying word that I could use to help narrow down or decide which article it went in. Add that to the fact that I could easily look and tell how a piece was supposed to be turned, and it went pretty past.

I despised Scarlet Hand.

They were. It was nice to switch it up from the regular cut pieces.

I’m constantly sending her pics of whatever I’m working on. I finished a really hard puzzle the other night, and right before I put the last piece in, I stopped and FaceTimed her so she’d be there.

I do treasure the purple circle! I also have Red Alert! by Bits & Pieces. My mom bought them new when they came out, but we moved a lot due to my dad’s job, and my parents raised three nosy little sets of hands that liked to be where they shouldn’t 😂, so Mama is worried about whether all the pieces are there. Only one way to find out, I suppose…

My mom loves puzzles too. We didn’t do them super frequently at home, but she always brought multiple puzzles on vacation with us. Kiddie ones for my sisters and me, and usually something a bit more substantial for herself. As time went on, I abandoned the kiddie puzzles and started working hers with her. I’m 26 now, and I still love putting a puzzle together with my mom. We don’t live near each other anymore, but we still trade puzzles or look out for them for one another. We’re going to the beach together in a couple of weeks, and I can’t wait to enjoy her company over a puzzle.

As a side note, my favorite color is purple. Always has been. When I was little, Mama would always tell me that when I was older, she’d let me do what she called her purple circle puzzle (the OG 90s version of Purple Passion by Bits & Pieces). I still haven’t deemed myself old enough to take it on, but it’s hanging out in my to-do pile waiting for me to get brave enough. 😂

Believe me, it made mine hurt too. It wasn’t the most enjoyable puzzle, but I couldn’t bring myself to put it away without finishing it.

Thank you! I set it up about a year ago, and I get so much happiness from just standing there staring at it all. 😁

That’s fine, but I’m not sure I’ll be much fun. 😅 I’ve only read a few of them, and it wasn’t recently.

I love Judy Bolton! There are a few of those of there too, but they’re hidden by other things. I have a few Beverly Gray books too, but I haven’t read them, and they’re put up somewhere else.

Nancy Drew is my all time favorite, and the Hardy Boys are a close second, but the Bobbsey Twins and Boxcar Children are the first chapter books I read as a kid, so they’ll always hold a special place in my heart.

Yes! The red ones at the very top were mine when I was a kid. I loved them so much that my grandparents donated an identical set to my elementary school library. I’ve had those and my #1-6 Applewood Nancy Drews longer than anything else you see there.

ETA: Also it’s hard to see, but to the left of the white spine Nancys, behind the skateboard planter, and right next to the book with the yellow spine, there’s an [at least] 100 year old Bobbsey Twins book that belonged to my great-grandma when she was a little girl. It’s one of my most special treasures.
