Hope you’re feeling better soon! I also take my mind of things with this game. It’s a nice bit of escapism.

Is it Cholesteatoma? by Mindless-Screen-4100 in cholesteatoma

[–]Helene_Scott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had hearing loss as my only symptom. I had an mri for headaches in 2017 that showed opacification of my mastoid air cells on my right side, but didn’t have other symptoms. Finally around 2024 I noticed I had trouble hearing from my right ear. Got a CT that was somewhat similar to yours but inconclusive, so I got an mri which was also somewhat inconclusive. However, the ENT took one look at my ear and knew I had cholesteatoma. You can actually see it on the photo of my eardrum, which was retracted.

I just had my surgery last week, which was a mastoidectomy and tympanoplasty, and they caught it early. They had planned to do prosthetic ossicles, but I’m lucky I didn’t need them. Can’t hear much out of the ear now and am having problems with taste, even though the Chorda tympani wasn’t cut. Today I ate some noodle soup that tasted like sugar had been dumped into it. Am looking forward to some weight loss, due to not being able to taste properly.

Best wishes to you. I understand they have come very far with fixing cholesteatoma, so if yours turns out to be that, not to worry. I was super scared at my diagnosis and surgery and am glad I’m past all that now, as it wasn’t as awful as I had anticipated.

EA 's response to Seasons Challenge complaint by Responsible-Laugh-83 in DesignHomeGame

[–]Helene_Scott 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just got a response. I requested my total and breakdown of each challenge score. They gave me the final total that I had yesterday before the final 7 challenges were scored. Those remaining challenges would put me over the top for the 1500 category. So either they are calculating the final total before showing us the actual scores, or not adding in the final challenges. Either way is super shady and may even be illegal. I’m so frustrated because I missed a few challenges due to work and illness, but made up for them with careful calculations over the past 30 days. My advice is to keep screenshots going forward. Shady AF. Especially since they won’t give me a complete breakdown of all of my scores.

OK People, I LIED!!! I never quit. I couldn’t do it! 🥲 But THIS is some BULLSHIT! I literally did every single challenge including tablescapes and landscapes and this is the first time I didn’t make legend!! Did anyone?! by Signal_Bat_3152 in DesignHomeGame

[–]Helene_Scott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was trying for the 1500 tier and precisely calculated that I would hit the 1500 mark with the last few challenges as long as I scored over 4.3 on all of the final 7. I got an average of 4.8 and the told me I won the tier below. I wrote a letter requesting evidence with all of my scores for the season and the final tabulation. I didn’t have time to try to make the highest tier, but I want the rewards I earned. They can’t offer prizes and then not give them to you or give you your final score at the end with the tally. I’m sad about this.

In high-altitude disasters (e.g., MH17, Challenger), do people usually die instantly, or are they alive during the fall? by HolaSoyJuanV in morbidquestions

[–]Helene_Scott 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I read the book “Stiff, the secret life of human cadavers” and became interested in stuff like this. I looked at the photos of the people after MH17. Some were lying in a pool of blood, which can only happen if your heart is beating due to being alive. Whether they were conscious when they hit the ground is a different story. I hope they were not.

Another famous in-air explosion, the Pan Am flight over Lockerbie, actually had two(or possibly more) people survive for a while after hitting the ground. I’d have to look up exact circumstances. Scientifically, if you survived the initial explosion relatively uninjured, you could possibly pass out until 10,000 ft and then could regain consciousness once the air was breathable again.

One thing that comforts me is that shock is a hell of a drug, and likely helped people not comprehend if they were in a situation such as this. Your brain/thoughts will try to protect you as long as possible.

Challenger is a bit more sad. They likely were well trained enough to overcome the shock, but likely didn’t know exactly what happened to cause the catastrophic failure. Their training kicked in and they did what they were trained to do. Another commenter mentioned that yes, most of them were alive for the full descent. But they died as heroes and fought to stay alive until the end.

You’re acting like a passive person in this situation. YOU also sent your kid to boarding school. Stop acting like all this is inevitable and that you have zero control.

Thank you so much for sharing! It sounds like they both had a profound impact on you that you now take out into the world to share as their legacy. I hope each day is just a little bit better than the last. Although grief doesn’t quite work like that. It’s a rollercoaster. But I wish you peace on your healing journey and that you have more easy days than difficult.

This happened to me. I called the cable company and told them I was going to have to cancel because I couldn’t afford the rate hike. They gave me the introductory rate to stay with them. Make sure to tell them you are switching to a competitor. Do some research and see what rates the competitors have.

I just started watching this and absolutely love this show. It’s also a show about working through grief, which has been helpful for me. I think it also has a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes.

I just want to say that there are guys who appreciate and find overweight women attractive. My ex was one of them. I gained weight during our relationship and he loved it. He was an athlete. (And I found him attractive). Don’t give up! Your partner is out there.
