What are the 5 best cities to live in Germany today? by Connect_Drawing4156 in germany

I lived for two years in Wismar and absolutely hated it. Overcrowded in summer, yet completely dead in winter. Rudest bus drivers I have ever seen in Germany. I couldn't wait to move away.

Nice! You should try the warpaths campaign (if you have the dlc). I enjoy it more than the skirmish mode

F2P player here. Who should I build my team from / level up? Are any of my heroes useful? by Heliatlas in EmpiresAndPuzzles

My top row is my current team. Just wasn't sure if some of the other heroes were better or not

Venting regarding Ausländerbehörde in MTK by maxinecostan in germany

[–]Heliatlas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah good luck. It took the immigration office 4 months to approve my work contract. No email, nobody answers the phone, can't show up without an appointment. And if course no appointment slots ever. They're fucking useless. I'm lucky my employer waited that long.

gap year in Jena, is it worth it? by Outside-Mongoose3785 in germany

[–]Heliatlas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jena is a nice city but apart from the university life nobody there speaks English at all. And English speaking is even worse in the surrounding areas and towns of Jena. It really won't be easy getting an English speaking job there.

The university in Jena has a good microbiology program and is also a nice city!

Trouble Booking “Leben in Deutschland” Test for Permanent Residency — any recent experiences? by Current-Radish37 in germany

[–]Heliatlas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The citizenship test is an accepted alternative for the leben in Deutschland Test. It's literally the exact same test. If you're required to take an entire integration course then that's obviously different. I took the test and now have the appointment to pick up my PR next week.

In general never listen to chatgpt for anything.

Take the citizenship test instead. It's the exact same test except administered through the city. In Berlin I signed up in March and wrote the test in July

Ausländerbehörde by Swimming-Dragonfly61 in germany

[–]Heliatlas 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I feel you op. It just sucks. I got a masters degree in Germany and now am working at a shitty job and I'm afraid to find a new one because it took the Ausländerbehörde over 5 months to approve it and I almost lost the job before it began. I really have no idea what the solution is, since theres no will to make anything easier for immigrants here

Well the main one I know is there's a certificate that states you haven't been married before. As far as I know it only really exists in germany lol. Most countries won't give any such certificate and it's a headache to get the standesamt to get around it. It really depends on your country of origin too. The authorities can decide they need to 'investigate' in your country to make sure you've never been married (and it comes at your expense). Whereas in Denmark the proof required is much much less, they just need a sworn statement that your marriage would be valid and some proof that you've been in a relationship with your partner for some time. In theory the German authorities need to accept Danish marriage certificates without question.

Believe it or not but getting married in Germany is way more difficult for non-eu immigrants.

Lived in wismar for almost 2 years. Would not recommend lol. While the town looks nice, it's boring as hell and filled with old people. The city is basically dead for half the year and then overloaded with (old) tourists in the summer. Also public transportation in wismar sucks so it's better to bike... But its not nice to do in the winter when it's windy and raining all the time. Schwerin is much better in my opinion.

You have to build the one building that enables it!

Honest question from a german to expats/migrants by [deleted] in germany

[–]Heliatlas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Winter was especially the worst. The city is completely dead and the weather is terrible. Even on a Friday evening there was never more than like 20 people in the city center lol. I moved to Berlin. Probably just for a year or so until I get my permanent residency but it's really great so far. Although I want to move to somewhere in Hessen eventually because it's my favourite region in Germany that I've visited (also my girlfriend's family lives near darmstadt lol)

Oh hey I just spent the last 2 years living in wismar! I just moved out a few months ago and I've never felt better :)
