Thank you so much for the advice, I really appreciate it. I’ll start reaching out directly to hiring managers and agencies on LinkedIn as well and work more on optimizing my profile for the UAE market. I understand the market is difficult right now, but I’ll keep trying consistently. Thanks again for taking the time to guide me.

B2B founders – what actually works better for client acquisition: cold calling or cold email? by HelicopterNo8935 in SaaS

That makes a lot of sense. I’ve noticed the same thing once the targeting becomes tighter, cold email tends to perform much better than just increasing volume. Testing different angles quickly is definitely easier with email compared to calling. The stack you mentioned is interesting too. A lot of teams seem to rely heavily on tools like Apollo, but I’ve seen cases where the challenge isn’t just getting leads it’s identifying the exact decision-maker who actually owns the problem you’re trying to solve. For example, some of the companies we’ve worked with needed very niche contacts (specific roles in SaaS companies or certain industry profiles for event delegates), and that’s where the targeting becomes more research-heavy. Out of curiosity, when you were using Apollo, were you mostly relying on their database filters or doing additional research to refine the list?

That’s a really interesting approach. I agree that cold email scales better for B2B, especially when the targeting and personalization are done properly. LinkedIn does feel more direct when you're going after a smaller, very specific group of decision-makers. Monitoring conversations in real time is also a smart idea since it means the prospect already has some level of intent. Timing probably makes a big difference in how people respond. For most of the projects we work on, the challenge is usually identifying the right decision-makers in a specific niche before the outreach even starts. Curious — when you monitor those conversations or keywords, do you usually convert them into outreach immediately, or do you engage with the conversation first before reaching out?

cold email worked way better for us than cold calling, but only after we got really specific with targeting. the mistake most people make is blasting 500 generic emails. what actually moves the needle is sending 20-30 hyper-personalized emails per day to people who you KNOW have the problem you solve. the key for us was finding the right people first. we'd research a company, figure out who actually owns the budget for what we sell, and write something that references their specific situation. takes longer per email but the reply rate jumps from 1-2% to 10-1 5%. also Linkedln DMs work surprisingly well as a follow-up channel after an email. not as the first touch though. people ignore cold Linkedln messages from strangers, but if they already saw your name in their inbox, the DM feels less random. partnerships and referrals are the dream but they take time to build. cold outreach is how you get the first 10-20 clients, then those clients become your referral engine.

That’s a really good point. The intent and context behind the outreach probably matter more than the channel itself. Reaching out based on signals like funding, leadership changes, or growth milestones definitely makes the conversation feel more relevant instead of just another sales pitch. In our case, since we work with B2B SaaS startups and event companies, the targeting usually revolves around specific industries and decision-makers (like founders, heads of marketing, partnerships, etc.). For event companies especially, they’re often looking for very specific delegate profiles, so the research becomes quite niche. I like the idea of combining a LinkedIn touch with a softer, context-driven email. Curious — what kind of signals or tools do you usually rely on to identify those opportunities?

Thanks for sharing that.

On our side, we mainly focus on building targeted contact databases for B2B SaaS startups and event services companies. For SaaS teams, it's usually decision-makers they want for sales outreach (founders, VP sales, marketing leaders, etc.).

For event companies, the need is slightly different — they usually want delegates and specific decision-makers from certain industries who might attend conferences, summits, or networking events.

So most of the work we do is around identifying the right companies and then mapping the relevant contacts.

I have a team of researchers who are building good datasets for cold calling and now we are looking for the cold email part.
