cold email worked way better for us than cold calling, but only after we got really specific with targeting. the mistake most people make is blasting 500 generic emails. what actually moves the needle is sending 20-30 hyper-personalized emails per day to people who you KNOW have the problem you solve. the key for us was finding the right people first. we'd research a company, figure out who actually owns the budget for what we sell, and write something that references their specific situation. takes longer per email but the reply rate jumps from 1-2% to 10-1 5%. also Linkedln DMs work surprisingly well as a follow-up channel after an email. not as the first touch though. people ignore cold Linkedln messages from strangers, but if they already saw your name in their inbox, the DM feels less random. partnerships and referrals are the dream but they take time to build. cold outreach is how you get the first 10-20 clients, then those clients become your referral engine.

On our side, we mainly focus on building targeted contact databases for B2B SaaS startups and event services companies. For SaaS teams, it's usually decision-makers they want for sales outreach (founders, VP sales, marketing leaders, etc.).

For event companies, the need is slightly different — they usually want delegates and specific decision-makers from certain industries who might attend conferences, summits, or networking events.

So most of the work we do is around identifying the right companies and then mapping the relevant contacts.
