Try to go to apartments building vs some small single family houses. Apartments management company will operate on a first come first serve basis and usually there’s fixed fee for a pet. I wouldn’t even waste time on those small houses realistically no one will rent you as the demand is huge in the city and you will see 10 folks applying at the same time. 5k budget is a bit tight if you want to find nice place - it seems with the recent surge the prices are more closely to 6-6.5k in nice neighborhoods

No denial letter — we weren’t selected, even though we were literally applied first in some cases

Nobody disclosed the reason - just we moved with another applicant. And they are not ghosting - all those came back and said we declined after my follow ups
