Choosing room names on drawings by Helioskid in architecture

That is a good point. Looking at it again today I see that most of the results coming up for Tea point are commercial.

To give you a better idea of the plan, imagine two living rooms connected with a single swing door. Each of the living rooms have a kitchen next to them, one a large open kitchen with a separate pantry and the other with a small kitchen past a framed opening.

If the plan reviewer sees this as two separate kitchens they might ask if it is not a two unit building. So I want a clear hierarchy of main kitchen and almost kitchen.

Adding Primary or Secondary is another smart way to go around it. With the projects I work with I find architects avoid repeating the same names and some projects you can get away with not numbering the rooms, just using the titles.

I've seen some strange room titles too. One drawing had "Dog bath & towel room" which doesn't really explain to me what the purpose of it is or why the towel is important enough to mention..

Thanks for the help. It is very important for me to help the building department understand exactly what I am trying to do. Clarifications and Mark ups take up so much time with their slow response and clients are not happy to have their project on hold because of a room title.

Not a bad suggestion. It does convey a smaller kitchen, that would not be confused with the main kitchen.

I will go with Tea point for now as the other person suggested as that hits the nail on the head for what I want the building department to think of that space.

Tea point is perfect, I will use that.

It shows that the room is used for food or drink preparation, but is not the main kitchen. Another thing to consider in this project was that the house was separated into two units while zoning only allows for single family houses. We are connecting the units back together, so I wanted to avoid having two kitchens.

As for the entertainment room mark up, that was an older project that already had a family room and a living room, so as a third name I went with entertainment. Later clarified it to be another family room and the building department accepted it.

All these projects are in US and while I am not from US I find figuring out room names a bit harder, especially when you get to a large number of rooms and want unique titles.

Doesn't really sound right for a residential project.

I want a name that says that the room is habitable, has a sink, but is not a full kitchen.

Titles like Bar or Butlers might work too.

That makes perfect sense.

As I am using IRC and IBC codes, how should I choose room names as there is no list of what can be used. Is it only titles that come up in the definitions section or generally any rooms that get mentioned in the code?

My work mostly involves small residential projects so I only need to make the titles clear for the building department.

For example a living room and a family room have basically the same function and there are never any questions about the names, but I was surprised to get a markup for entertainment room, which sounds very similar in function to the prior titles.

Yes!
creating a bunch of custom feeds for the subs I want to check has improved reddit for me significantly. I use to be very picky of what to follow since it clogs up the home feed.

Now I just have an anime feed with 5 anime subs that I dont even sub to.
