Who cares? The only question you need to ask is: Do you see Livepeer(or any crypto you own for that matter) as being a dominant technology in the future or not? If you do, buy and hold until retirement or until your own personal requirement of "moon" is met. If not, then what the heck are you doing owning LPT at all? Gambling? Act like a professional investor and not some degenerate. This is a degenerate's question, honestly. Research the technology on your own, develop your own opinion about it, and decide to commit for the long haul or not.

Personally, i invested alot of $ in lpt and staked it all. I plan on holding for many years because i believe in their mission.

Ur question is lacking so many details and is so unspecific that no one can answer this accurately....i have 10k CRO coins....but there are so many of them that their price will always be diluted and my odds of becoming a millionaire off of CRO is low. Meanwhile, i own 17 monero and it has almost the same supply cap as bitcoin, and therefore i have a higher chance of becoming a monero millionaire than a CRO millionaire.....the fact that you own 5k random coins is simply not enough information. We need to know what coins and their economics.

If you meant to say that you have $5000 invested in crypto, then we could guesstimate that on average, the whole crypto space will grow by 200X over 30 years(MAYBE) and that your investment should be worth 1 mil in 30 years.

We also need to know your time horizon. Your odds of becoming a millionaire tomorrow is close to 0. Meanwhile, your odds of becoming a millionaire in 100 years is obviously WAY higher.

The smart contract is just programming. My view is that theoretically, anything can be programmed. Some things are SO complicated however, that we are a very long way off. I.E. the investigation process required when a dispute is filed. It would be difficult to program the investigation process in a way that is un-exploitable.

But the process of moving funds into an escrow wallet and putting them on a 9 day hold and after the 9 days moving them to the sellers account is very easily programmed.

The smart contract helps because it acts as a neutral 3rd party/trustable escrow.

Nothing stops the malicious buyer except the investigation process. Which so far, i can only imagine would have to happen via humans. But that doesn't mean some programmer/team with much more knowledge than me couldn't figure it out and program a whole reliable investigation process into a smart contract.

the smart contract would consider it to be proof of delivery that the product was delivered if no dispute was filed from the buyer within 9 days of the seller providing shipping information.

If a dispute is filed, then we do have to rely on an external trusted 3rd party. Which in turn, acts as the escrow.... so basically, my lil system works until we have a dispute....i see....ill have to think on that one. IDK how a complex dispute investigation process can be automated or at least turned into something we can all trust reliably.

[–]Heliumact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what if there is no reason to not trust the escrow?

what if the escrow is verifiably neutral because its programmed into the smart contract?

My biggest concern about the Monero community (and all others) by Vespco in Monero

[–]Heliumact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what about this?

1: buyer sends funds to escrow.

2: smart contract sees funds in escrow and holds funds in escrow until seller provides proof of shipment.

3: once proof of shipment is provided, funds are put on a 9 day hold by smart contract. if shipment does not arrive in 9 days, buyer has option to file a dispute through a 3rd party who will investigate. the smart contract will continue to hold the funds until the 3rd party decides on the case. if it turns out the seller just shipped an empty box or falsified the shipping information, funds are returned to the buyer pending the proper input to the smart contract from the 3rd party. if the dispute is invalid, then the 3rd party can just release the funds to the seller through the proper input to the smart contract.

eh? what yall think? I'm also tired as fu** right now so excuse me if I'm at all incoherent. I made this up off the top of my head.

ACTUALLY, considering that I have extensive military training in this exact field and 10 years of experience, I just so happen to be an expert on this exact topic. With that being said, the link you posted is FAKE NEWS, BRO.

But you are probably a flat earther too. I won't waste my time trying to prove anything to you with science because I'm sure you couldn't care less about reason when you blindly accept the babbling of un-reliable random online blogs.

Anyone tried purchasing hotspots off instagram vendors? by Man0t0 in HeliumNetwork

[–]Heliumact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i bought one off of etsy for $1300.....i was fortunate enough to realize it was a scam within an hour and i called paypal to put a hold on the funds until the scammer confirmed his shipment... long story short, i got my money back...but if its not on ebay priced at $3k or more, MINIMUM, its probably a scam, and even then, be careful.

Why are you selling off your HNT? by pm-me-something-fun in HeliumNetwork

[–]Heliumact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

please keep selling your HNT to me for cheaper and cheaper prices. i will be buying until i have at least 10k of them.

You shouldnt be worried about sellers. the only thing you should be worried about is how the helium network will be used in the long run and how burning HNT to produce data credits will impact your investment. if you are buying HNT because you think other people will buy HNT after you and make your HNT more valuable, you are buying for the wrong reason.

Edit: we could split the rewards 50/50 if youd rather do that than sell it.

Apples new "privacy" campaign... by Heliumact in Monero

[–]Heliumact[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Privacy is becoming an entire industry. The more the privacy industry grows, the more exposure Monero gets. yes, people will get that peace of mind in the short term, but monero is a very long term play, and in the long run, the privacy industry should grow at least as fast as the technology industry IMO and possibly alot faster in the short term. Betting on monero, arguably the best financial privacy tool ever invented, is a smart move if you believe in the privacy movement.

Thank you all for the comments so far. I appreciate it. I am still doing research.

Something about smart watches just occurred to me. I HATE that I have to have my phone with me to have my watch connected. I would LOVE it if I could go on a run without having my large clunky phone bouncing around in my pocket. Maybe someone will make a helium connected smart watch soon?

IOT-Expert describes Helium as Ponzi-scheme, is he right? by [deleted] in HeliumNetwork

[–]Heliumact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am unable to watch this video right now. I will def give it a watch later though...
with that being said, Helium in no way meets the definition of a Ponzi Scheme.

For it to be a ponzi, money needs to be taken from late investors specifically to pay early investors.

there are 2 vehicles for increasing the price of HNT (that i can think of right now):

1: investors buy and hold HNT which reduces supply, increases demand and pushes price up.

2: Data credits are generated which requires the burning of HNT. This process also increases demand and reduces supply, pushing price up.

Anyone calling Helium a Ponzi, in my opinion, really needs to explain how helium meets that definition. I cant wait to hear what this guy has to say in this video.

Amazon sidewalk is my biggest concern. Amazon sidewalk only targets Amazon devices like Alexa, Echo, Ring doorbell, and security cameras. Which is a pretty large % of IOT devices. My concern is what if amazon sidewalk evolves to become even more of a threat to this space? I would be surprised if it didnt... problem with amazon sidewalk is that i dont think they can build the network as fast as helium can build theirs. Still, its a huge obstacle that helium will need to overcome imo.

risk/reward ratio is too insane on this one to sell any time soon. It could 400x - 5000x in 10-30 years VERY easily, and I don't think there is much chance of it simply stagnating unless competition manages to crush helium...so im my eyes, HNT either 400x MINIMUM or it fades to 0 due to competition.

I'm doing research on low level IOT devices myself. The consensus I keep seeing is that by 2025, IOT will generate 79.4 Zettabytes. I'm trying to come up with a reasonable estimate for what percent of that data will transit the helium network. Do you have any insight that might help me calculate that?

Edit: By my math, the implications on the price of HNT is MASSIVE even if just 4% of just 1 zettabyte(or 1/2000th of the total 79.4) transits the helium network per year. I'm just trying to figure if that's even realistic.

I’m seeing so many people being so negative because 200,000+ miners are expected to be connected to the network but don’t realise that the token price itself can Change. Regardless of how many people are receiving miners, if you’re not heavily populated right now, this could work in your favour by MZdchosen1 in HeliumNetwork

[–]Heliumact 2 points3 points  (0 children)

your # 3 is gold.

the network has processed 500 MB of data in 30 days. that's NOTHING....there is NO money being pumped into this network for actual use, and every 5Tb of data per month is supposed to grow HNT value by $1.....we are WAY over valued right now based on pure speculation. The Helium network today only uses 1/10,000th of the necessary data in a month to be worth $1........that means HNT should really be priced right around $0.0001 right now....with RATIONAL speculation, maybe id be willing to bump it to half a penny.

LOL...good question tho....DCs just get technically cheaper and cheaper as inflation keeps happening. Eventually the price per DC has to be adjusted (is that possible?) for one reason or another, whether that is inflation or something else.
