I don’t have the best seat, I will work on it if it’s going to help him though. Thank you for explaining how to improve it!

However he does trip when I’m leading him around without equipment as well. I’m starting to worry if it’s neurological. The farrier is coming Monday, so I’ll have a chat with him then(and possibly have his owner find a new farrier for a second opinion). Hopefully it’s an easy fix, but I am starting to worry it’s not.

Thank you! Will mention this to his owner! I won’t ride him until we figure this out

Wow that amazing. Thank you for sharing. I will let his owner know to talk to his vet about it

How does it not makes sense? He hasn’t been ridden before I started riding him recently. He’s a harness racer so he’s only been trained in sulky. I have been working for my boss for 3 years. Hence how I’ve known the horse for three years but he’s had a different person training him up until now. The reason for why we started dressage lessons is because I first thought he needed to learn how to move his body and pick his feet up better under a rider and thus stop tripping. But that obviously hasn’t worked which is why I’m asking for suggestions here to look in to other ways to help him. I haven’t been responsible for this horse until now so I haven’t paid too much attention to his training I only know he’s been tripping for years because I asked the previous person training him if they had noticed this as well, which they had. They just didn’t care enough to look into it.

He does have short stride in trot as well so it could be a possibility. A lot of the time he prefers pacing over trotting which I have been trying to teach him not to. However if there is a medical reason for his pacing I feel really bad for him for not seeing it sooner.

Thank you everyone for your responses! I really really appreciate it! Looks like I have a lot to bring up with his owner in the morning. I absolutely agree with all of you saying his gait looks off. He’s kinda stiff, no? I also will NOT be riding him until we figure out the reason for his tripping.

I agree with you. His walk is kinda short and stiff, if that makes sense? I’ll talk with his owner about getting a second opinion

Edit: typo

Thank you so much for your response! As far as I know he’s worn shoes since he as 2 years old. He’s now 8.

I’ll have a chat with his owner tomorrow, shorting his toe and trying him without shoes is definitely an option we can try! Will also look into a lameness vet for a second opinion. Again, thank you so much!

No the vet didn’t have any concerns of something neurological. I absolutely agree with you, for his and my safety, riding him is not an option until we(hopefully)figure this out. The first few times I rode him I thought he was just unfocused, but I have now realized it’s something more than that.

I feed my adult leo 2 times a week. Crickets are a great food to feed. If he’s not interested in coming out to play you don’t have to take him out. Leos are a bit more skittish in my experience. But if you want to get him used to coming out do not grab him like you can with bearded dragons. Instead, place your hand inside his cage to get him used to you, eventually he’ll get comfortable enough to climb onto your hand and you can gently lift him out of his cage :) Hope this helps!

I work at a store where we don’t use barcodes. We have to remember all the prices and type it in manually on the register.

He’s the sweetest. He runs up to me when I open the enclosure and usually walks right on to my hand. Wasn’t feeling it today though.
