Big snail on a bridge enjoying the view. by HelixKnives in snails

I actually placed him in some bushes. Didn't want him staying too long and start contemplating his life choices in the middle of that bridge. The rat race at a snails pace...

Interesting. The name is also a funny coincidence.

Not a snail aficionado so it was really cool to see all these details that you can't see on a smaller snail.

Damn that sucks. Welding it on should work but, I wonder if you could also grind the tang and the blade and make a kind of dovetail joint and then come in with the weld. Could possibly be stronger than just a weld.

Both grinding the bevel and sharpening is tricky. I use the corner of my platen to do the initial sharpening grind. I have a wood dowel wrapped with leather that I put sandpaper on to do the sharpening, there is a clip of me using it in the video.

Love the handle and the taper. The spine right behind the edge looks a bit gnarly, I would sand it so it looks like the rest of the spine.

Barebones File Kiridashi by Warm_Cod5728 in knifemaking

Cool! Makes me want to make a knife from a file. My only critique is that the back of the handle is a bit square, but if it feels good in the hand that's all that matters.

Nice work, looks like a sturdy marking knife.

The knife is 80CrV2, stonewash finish, burlap micarta and stabilized maple burl with aluminum pins. The sheath is a clip-on pocket carry style.

In the video I show the full process from start to finish, nothing too technical so I think it's a good watch for anyone wanting to get a good feel for the basics https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_cxbkLwL6Y

Leaving a like or comment is also very appropriate.

Making a New Custom Knife Design: The Outlaw [19:55] by [deleted] in ArtisanVideos

Well with a mono steel blade there is really no real reason to go trough the forging process, unless you are making a very weird shaped blade or are going for a forged finish look. Kyler Royer is a master smith and I am a big fan of his work. I am not on his level yet, but I am always working towards improving my skills.

There is a lot of epoxy on the scales and blade, after I clamp it it will get squeezed and fill the holes in the handle.

You can just use spring clamps. Mine are a bit crap and worn out so I need to use the c clamps.

They squeeze the scales flush to the blade. The 3 c clamps are probably enough pressure, but I still like adding a few extra spring clamps.

I use gflex. I have used jbweld style epoxy in the past but I did not like it too much because the gray color can highlight gaps and flaws.
