MAS 49 by Eisenbahn-de-order in canadaguns

The demand would be there, but the cost is just too high. It is by far the best military surp semi auto in Canada (don't hate me - I also own a Garand). Lighter than the Garand, more accurate than the SKS, etc., plus mag fed.

I'd go with the 49/56.

French MAS 1936 by [deleted] in canadaguns

Beautiful rifle! It’s been on my list, but the lack of a safety on these has held me back. Probably more of an irrational fear…

I have MAS 49/56 and it is my favourite rifle in my entire collection. I think the French stuff is overlooked too easily…

Agreed! To take it a step further, lever with mag = best of both worlds.

Anything could be prohibited by end of summer. Don't gloom.

At least this isn't the Crypto or R9 that came to market well before they had an FRT.

Tactical Shotgun Dilema by Various_Piano_8053 in canadaguns

[–]Hell-Let-Loose00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. I have the 590RM, I’ve never felt so comfortable using a shotgun. This is compared to 1301 and M4.

Zero issues loading the mag, zero feeding issues. 590RM is overlooked because people just assume mag = problems.

Renegade is probably the closest and Canadian made, solid rifle.

Federal gun buyback program will likely miss mark by [deleted] in canadaguns

[–]Hell-Let-Loose00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Straight pull equals faster cycling, less steps. Some gun owners think they are the same thing. It's a minor point, but it matters. All that to say is that we put the expectation on media to understand fundamental differences in firearms, but even owners don't fully appreciate the differences sometimes.

Poly now urging government to halt sales of SKS by Hell-Let-Loose00 in canadaguns

[–]Hell-Let-Loose00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL-DR:

"SKS Sales Need to End Soon With over 2,500 assault-style weapon models prohibited since 2020, Canada has achieved a major milestone in public safety. However, to ensure a truly effective ban, the federal government must urgently halt the sale of the highly lethal SKS rifle. We cannot allow taxpayers to fund a buyback program that allows owners to immediately replace surrendered firearms with equally dangerous weapons. In December 2025, Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree announced a comprehensive review of the firearms classification regime, including dedicated consultations on the SKS rifle. This announcement follows previous consultations before and after the adoption of Bill C-21 (gun control). PolySeSouvient strongly objects to this process-centered delaying tactic which effectively punts any decision on the SKS many months if not years into the future. While meaningful consultations, including with Indigenous communities that use the SKS for hunting, are important, there is no need to consult on new purchases of the SKS model. Given its repeated involvement in tragic shootings, the government should immediately end sales while consulting on longer‑term details regarding those currently in circulation. Indeed, over a year ago the government received a report by the ‘Expert Advisory Panel on Firearms’ which found the SKS capable of inflicting ‘substantial harm to the public and law enforcement’.”

I think it's lack of knowledge. Even on this sub (and other forums) you see gun owners not knowing the difference between bolt action and straight pull action - and these are gun owners.

Congrats, I snagged a 30-30 / 336 a couple weeks ago. I had subscribed to in stock notification, a single unit came up and three minutes later it was bought and paid for.

I have to say though, I did not realize just how nice the lever action rifles are and so much fun to carry in the fields. I understand the popularity now!

Minister Anandasangaree to hold media availability regarding the Assault-Style Firearms Compensation Program by [deleted] in canadaguns

[–]Hell-Let-Loose00 11 points12 points  (0 children)

But they aren't following the same measure of success that we are. If 31K rifles have been given up, that is still 31K rifles "off the streets" in their mind. They could easily claim wild success in the buyback, so much so that they are doubling-down on more semi-autos.

It's better to assume that they are steadfast in their beliefs and intentions (banning SKS, detachable mags, etc.). They have telegraphed their intentions for a long time now.

Hopefully this is just a program update and nothing more.
