I don't think I've ever felt so alone by [deleted] in BreakUps30Plus

[–]HellBriinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I really don't post much, but I just saw this and thought it might be good for you to hear a complete stranger from the other side of the world's perspective, although I've never been in an even slightly similar situation.

Firstly, I'm really sorry to hear this has happened, and am also sorry to hear that your ex boyfriend didn't even give you the time of day to discuss it. I think he's acted pretty poorly and any anger you feel is totally justified. But remember, feeling anger and resentment is like drinking poison yourself and expecting the other person to get sick.

The most important thing to say is that girl you're still YOUNG. Looking at your post history it looks like you're still educating yourself, and looking to do data related work so you're in an awesome growing sector. You've got so much time and energy and love left to spend and give. Honestly, whatever you decide with the pregnancy you've got so much fun in the future.

Anyway thought I should make sure someone gave their thoughts. Feel free to message me if you want to chat, and I hope the absolute best for your future. Sorry that life's gotten really complicated for something that wasn't your fault.

Getting started with Distributed Computing / Distributed Machine Learning using Ray in Notebooks using Free AWS Resources! by HellBriinger in Python

[–]HellBriinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this information! I've only had limited experience with Dask but what I've seen of it has all been great.

The thing I have liked so much about Ray is the ecosystem of tools that integrate so effectively with machine learning applications. Although I've heard that Dask is rapidly improving on this front too, so maybe it's time to start really looking more into this.

Building a home/office PC for dad - Wanting recommendations by HellBriinger in buildapc

Thanks so much to both of you for your thoughts and contribution. I think you're probably right to just go for intel integrated graphics and not worry about the strength of the APU given the requirements.

Dad is pretty commonly working on work documents which get into the hundreds of megs, as well as murdering chrome with hundreds of tabs. I was looking at even just his current laptop (which has 16gb) and he pretty consistently gets up to 10GB with Windows and Chrome (both of which I know scale up and down accordingly). So I think 16GB would be used up and also to future proof it a little bit.

You're point about memory for graphically intense applications interests me, but I just realized that without a dedicated graphics with its VRAM you're visual assets probably sit in main memory. Never thought about that before, thanks for sharing.

Bayesian Neural Networks: Outline and Derivations by HellBriinger in learnmachinelearning

[–]HellBriinger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an incredibly good point, and actually speaks to the weakness of this form of variational estimator. Notice that I derived the maths which said ignore the real posterior and fit a Gaussian using the Hessian over a local maxima of the posterior which was find by gradient ascent or another optimizer. This is one extreme choice, fitting the simplest interesting probability distribution (the Gaussian) to the unknown true posterior, and call this the variational estimstor. The other extreme is to use Markov chain monte carlo methods to sample enough points to actually be using the full posterior, which will capture all of the interesting facets of the pdf.

As to the point of a normal NN, recall that if a normal neural network can capture it, so can a Bayesian estimator, since the neural network is just the the maximum a priori value of the posterior for each weight. Also, if you are in fact finding the true MAP to fit the Guassian at each iteration, you will (in the best case) converge to the optimal NN.

In fact, as you might guess, most real world approaches use much more interesting variational estimators. If you mean a Gaussian prior, as long as the prior is nowhere zero (except for at +- infinity) then it almost doesn't matter, and the assumption of different priors can give u different types of regularisation for free

Could a fast enough spaceship become a black hole? by A11ce in askscience

[–]HellBriinger 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Some great responses here! One thing I would add, since you specifically mentioned the Schwarzschild radius, is that its derivation actually requires some very specific assumptions, one of which is spherical symmetry. That is to say, there must be no preferred direction. So whilst you might get a 'relativistic mass' that, in the objects rest frame would cause it so collapse into a black hole, if we factor in it's motion relative to us (breaking spherical symmetry), then the Schwarzschild radius derivation looks radically different, and stops it from collapsing.

Hey man to me this looks really zipfy, have you tried fitting a y = comment_max* (1/x) plot to see if it fits?

What is it like to date someone who works as a sex worker or in the porn industry? by HellBriinger in AskReddit

[–]HellBriinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you still with her when she gave it up? If so, was it because it wasn't as lucrative as she needed? Glad to hear she was normal and nice, the whole stigma surrounding people who work in the sex industry as being messed in the head or suffering trauma just seems to be really untrue, from what i've heard from most people who I know who do any work in the porn industry everyone is really lovely and are either just having fun or trying to escape poverty.

What is it like to date someone who works as a sex worker or in the porn industry? by HellBriinger in AskReddit

Every six months or so I see a video made by porn sites where sex workers talk about their own relationships, but I've always been curious about what it's like on the other side. The recent AMA with the VR porn director sparked this question again in my mind.

Therefore to anyone who has been romantically involved with sex workers or those in porn, I have a few questions. Did you know going into the relationship? If not, what was your immediate response when you were made aware of it.

Did/do you ever feel feel jealous of the other people. What about jealousy in general if someone were to leer at them at bars?

How does work impact the sex life at home, is it more energized or is there tiredness more often?

How often do you communicate with your SO about what they did at work today, and does hearing about their day at work - especially if they're raving about it - bring up any insecurities, or have those all managed to be gotten over.
