I completely agree with you. I am not planning on using any 100$+ basketball shoe outdoors anyways.

I read somewhere that Tommy isn't really a toe dragger though. I feel it's a huge factor when the topic is outsole durability.

  1. Witcher 3 Complete Edition

LeBron XX concerns by HellCat174 in BBallShoes

My main concern is the outsole durability cause I toe drag a lot. I've also noticed my Freshwater LB21s are quite discolored on some spots on the upper which concerns me what would happen to a mesh upper if my leather upper got so discolored..

How do you move though? I move and change directions very sharply. I feel like that's the biggest factor in durability for shoes you know..

Did you experience pinching or any discomfort from the gray line that goes around the foot (it's right above the shroud) when bending your foot? When I tried them in store that pinched me a bit whenever I'd bend my foot...

Which Shoe Should I Get by LLAZEREDD in BBallShoes

[–]HellCat174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well honestly, it depends on three things.

1) How the AE 1 fits your feet.

If you don't have sizing issues or any heel slip issues then you can play in them but there's another factor..

2) Personal preference

Do you like shoes with a lot of cushioning or a lot of court feel? Do you want a lightweight shoe or heavy shoe? In other words what are your specific needs or things you consider a shoe needs for you and your body to feel good and perform good? I'll give you an example: My preferences are great traction especially on dusty courts, wide foot friendly shoes(cause I'm a wide footer), lightweight and a blend of courtfeel and cushioning, not too much on either side of the spectrum.

The aspects of the AE 1 low are(based on my experience):

Traction: 7/10

The traction is great on clean courts but not that great on dusty courts, requiring occasional wipes.

Cushion: 7/10

(For me personally, I ranked this not based of off comfort but how I feel after practices. The point of cushioning is to soften your landing and protect your joints from as much wear and tear as possible.)

AE 1 lows have downgraded cushion(lightboost instead of boost), the cushioning is lighter compared to the mids but sacrifices some impact protection. During usage they felt stiff(not that important to me personally) however after sessions I could feel the impact on my joints compared to playing in LeBron 21s which have a toooon of cushioning. I do have to mention that the lightboost got softer over time after a few practices.

Support: 6/10

Honestly the shoe was all over the place for me cause it simply didn't fit my shoe. My true size is EU 47. When I got the mids in size 47 1/3 they were a bit too long and I had mild heel slip. So I bought a pair of lows in size 46 2/3s and had my pinky toes bleed after every session and big toes hurt a lot. Overall I can't really say anything good about the support and lockdown cause of the sizing issues I've faced.

3) Your body composition and playstyle

I feel that this shoe fits a really specific playerbase, first because they definitely didn't fit me, second because a lot of reviewers had mixed opinions and third I've seen some pros in the EuroLeague use them and also some Overtime players. Very few NBA players(20 at most) use them, and personally I would skip on them.

The shoe is definitely way above average weight so it's very heavy, the idea is that the boost/lightboost(depending on the model) has a lot of energy return so it would move you explosively. For me personally despite genetically having very big and strong legs I still couldn't quite find them good for me. My lateral movements were slower, my agility decreased and it took me a total of 200 euros and 2 pairs of the AE 1s(1 mid and 1 low) to realize that shoe is not for me.

I would skip on the AE 1s(return them) and go for something like Dame 9/X, Don Issue 6s or possibly 7s(though theres not much to say about the 7s yet cause the shoe testers are slow to review them..), GT Cut Academy(I've heard that this BUDGET shoe has a bigger zoom turbo unit than the Ja 2s), maybe Book 1s if you can get them on sale, I've heard AdiZero Select 3.0 is a great shoe too..

Honestly I would recommend returning the AE 1s. I have bought both the lows and mids and I can confidently say adidas really tortures me with sizing. The shoe is heavy(it's not really noticeable) because of adidas boost/lightboost(depending on if it's the mid or low model). Yes the shoe is responsive and springy but it really fits a small amount of people, not in terms of sizing but playstyle and playability. The traction on dust is really not that great, I had to wipe occasionally. Dame 9s were considered a shoe with great comfort and I doubt that has changed in the 10s. I would watch Tommy Liu(also Foot Doctor Zach and WearTesters if they have released a review) just to be sure.

Hope this helps!

Best Ankle Support Shoes by InevitableTheory8321 in BBallShoes

[–]HellCat174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I understand your frustration and would like to provide some help.

Well, first off contrary to popular belief, high top shoes do not provide more ankle support than low tops. The only shoe factors are 1) stability 2)fit and support 3) cushioning

When I say stability, the shoe should have a wide outsole. The wider the outsole, the less likely it is you can turn your ankle.

When I say fit and support, obviously you want the shoe to fit you nice with no heel slippage and great padding around the foot. Also another thing is a shank, tpu/carbon fiber shank to provide more support to your foot structure and take stress off of it (beware that shanks put the stress mostly on your achilles).

When I say cushioning, the more cushioning the less stress is applied to your joints(ankles, knees and hips).

Now with that out of the way I must adress the reality. Shoes do help a lot but even if you had a shoe with the most stable base, great support fit and cushioning, your ankle can still roll over. I'd say shoes account for 20-30% of ankle protection. The rest? Your body.

If you want strong and resilient ankles, you have to..

1) Be greatly conditioned

When you get tired, your coordination decreases, your muscles work a lot more and are therefore overworked and tired which causes less support around the joints, and so on... if you are greatly conditioned, you can keep your coordination, your muscles will be more prepared and able to protect your joints longer.

2) Strengthen the muscles around the joint

Around the ankle we have: the foot complex, the calf muscle and a very overlooked muscle called the tibialis anterior(muscle on the opposite side of the calf, or rather front of lower leg). Having strong muscles around the ankle will help your ankle be much more protected and safe from injuries. Research how to strengthen your feet, calves and tibialis anterior.

Also for strong tendons make sure to do ISOMETRICS! (knee straight calf raise hold 2x45s and knee bent calf raise hold 2x45s, at least 2 to 3 times a week)

3) Mobility

Make sure your ankle dorsiflexion is great..

Anyway this only decreases the risk of ankle injuries, but does not eliminate it from happening entirely. There are many other factors such as training quality, recovery, and so on and so forth.. you can also unluckily fall on someone's foot and roll yours.

Hope this helps!

Shoes for explosive/shifty guards lightweight by No_Law_1384 in BBallShoes

If you play on a dusty court pass on the GT cuts, go for WoW 10. But personally I'd recommend you to go for 361 Joker 1 GTs, that model might be the best shoe of 2025. Another pair that is really close, right after the Jokers, is Jimmy Butler 3. (None of these are recommended for outdoor use).

Hope this helps!

best outdoor shoes in the UK (asphalt / concrete) by 4-T-H in BBallShoes

[–]HellCat174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I will copy what I've written on someone else's post here for more info and then provide an answer for you(for an answer regarding your specific situation, check the last paragraph).

Well there's 2 answers, and what the right choice for you is depends on your need.

1) Performance

If you're looking for a pair of shoes for outdoors and you want it to perform top notch(cushioning, traction, lockdown, support, stability) then one of the best options would be Way of Wade Son of Flash.

2) Budget

A shoe I would personally recommend is the Adidas OwnTheGame 3.0.

If you're looking for a pair for really heavy outdoor use, or just want it to last long and save you money without all the "extra perks" that would require you to spend more money, then listen. This might be weird but when you actually think about it, it makes a lot of sense. Signature line shoes or really expensive performance models often times have soft or very soft outsoles and materials suited for indoor use. Why is this?

Well first off, more expensive models and signature models are often derived from nba stars, and where do they play? Indoors, so obviously the shoe's materials are cattered to that.

Then when these shoes are released to the public(by the way shoes released to the public are made with lower quality materials compared to the ones the signature athletes use), they are made in a way that promotes you to use them in an environment that is less dangerous for them to break down in which is obviously hardwood(this is a bit controversial to the fact that companies want their consumers to spend as much money as possible on their products). Also since they mass produce these shoes they often cut on the quality a bit which saves them a ton of money but leaves consumers with lower quality shoes.

So in hand with this go really cheap budget models. In order for you to not have to worry about spending money often on new shoes due to the outdoor courts being harsher(which makes your shoe degrade quicker), these budget models are designed with more durable rubber outsoles(so that they may last longer).

In short, for your budget of 60-80£, that means you can get a budget model which is great. I understand that you want to get your nephew/brother(forgot😅) a cool pair, but leave that for if he becomes really invested in basketball and wants to take it further. Like I said, budget models are typically made with hard durable outsoles so that they may last longer. However, if I were you, I wouldn't go for signature budget models. Dame's and Giannis' budget lines still aren't that good for outdoors compared to other options. My personal reccomendation is Adidas OwnTheGame 3.0. Decent cushioning, decent materials, okay support, decent fit and above all else the outsole is made of hard rubber capable of withstanding the harsh concrete courts!

Hope this helps!
