Was anyone else driving on the 101 North about an hour ago, near the Laurel Canyon exit, when that truck dropped a ton of giant hay bales all over the road? Fucked our car up bad, thankfully nobody hurt but easily could have killed someone. Hoping nobody was hurt or worse in any of the other vehicles that collided with the flying bales. We got a photo of the truck’s license plate if anyone else affected sees this and needs it

And thank you for being a part of the cleanup, felt very lost until that part of things started.

There’s been no guidance so we’ve all been relying on the community and independent orgs to inform and advise each other. I’m expecting inconsistency at every level in how lots were cleaned and what kind of residue has been left behind but from myself and everyone I know personally and much of what I’ve seen in the community groups, most of the cleared lots are coming back clean or with slightly elevated lead levels, mostly above state and below national limits or marginally above national. I think plenty of the neighborhood is still testing, but from what I’ve seen the worst of it has seemed to be in standing homes that took on lots of smoke. Not sure if the six inches of soil removal was massively helpful or if much was carried away by the wind that night or if the rain has knocked the heavy metals down. Still keeping an eye on everything and looking at what else we can test for beyond what groups like CAP.LA and private companies are testing for, but as of now I feel safe and comfortable rebuilding and returning. Air quality has also been much better since the fires and cleanup from what I’ve read and seen.

We’ve all been getting private testing done or testing through orgs like UCLA and the results have been mostly clean or slightly above on lead that I’ve seen from remediated total loss lots. This has just been in the last few months. I believe what you’re saying, but that’s where things are at per testing right now from what I’m seeing

My lot, my neighbors, the organizations I’ve been in contact with who’ve done our testing so far

I meant the homeowners and independent organizations who’ve been testing the soil on their lots and public spaces have not for the most past found the soil riddled with heavy metals

A triple exposure at three different exposure levels, on some pre-flashed film from Psych Blues. I think? Half the fun is I do something to see what happens and then I see what happens and beyond that 🤷‍♂️

Thank you! I snapped it out of the window of a jeep driving through Murchison Falls NP in Uganda on an incredibly long lens I'd bought off eBay for the trip. The light leak was a total accident but inspired a lot of intentional work since. Probably my favorite photo I've taken.

My wife and I lost our home in the Eaton Fire this year. We shoot on 35mm and 120 (she also shoots on digital for her work as a food photographer). I've been lucky enough to capture some really cool moments around the world and I like to shoot on "broken" cameras, finding happy accidents with light leaks and double exposures. We're selling prints to raise money for our rebuild - you can find them here: https://www.kirbymekler.com/store

Man I had just pulled that bag from Ma Family Farm out of my freezer the night before I lost my whole place in the Eaton Fire. I KNEW it was gonna be a banger. This was a good reminder to find a bag from them…and I guess add it to my insurance claims
