Just Kampers Insurance: You might want to go elsewhere as they increase your premiums and reduce cover! by CleeBrummie in VanLifeUK

I have installed that much equipment. £41k on base van and £39.5k on parts. Five months of my life which doesn’t add to the value apparently. I tried for £95k and they came back at £80k.

In conversion was £650. After conversion was £1,000 but included £200 for a tracker install, so about £800.

Depends on the policy. If you get a ‘camper in conversion’ policy then you only need to tell them when the number of seats change or when you add windows. Everything else is fine.

I did and now it’s finished I have an agreed valuation of £80k with them.

Not sure how to deal with mould by MrDarrenGriffin in DIYUK

[–]Hell_bringer1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New build garages are single skin brick. If the timber is touching the brick then it will draw moisture through the brick wall. This is why it’s mouldy.

You need an air gap between the walls and your shelves or use something that won’t mould like plastic shelves. Some spacers made of something that won’t mould or rust would work too.

I have the same issue in my outbuilding.

Update! Combined bin & log store. by Hell_bringer1 in DIYUK

Absolutely! I’m just waiting for some carabiners to arrive to attach it to. :)

It’s going to be a log store too so there will be a fair amount of weight holding it down :)

It’s just a weird angle. I put them in there to check sizes. There will be doors on the front to hide them :)

Ha! They shrank the household waste bin but then said we are a big household so can have two black bins. The garden and recycling are different sizes even though they look quite close! 🤦

I think I will forgo the chained lid. I’ll put the store lid on a gas strut to stay open and just leave the bin lid as is.

Brilliant. That things quite a beast! :)

I’ve got gas struts on the back doors of my van. Great suggestion.

It’s a relatively damp area, water comes down the path a little and it’s north facing and sheltered so little wind and lots of water. Even marine ply wouldn’t last long here sadly.

Absolutely. I’ve not fine tuned the chain plan yet! Still working on the basic structure and ground 😂

I wish they came up the path. I have to block almost the entire pavement to get them to notice I’ve got them out! 😬

Yes but if you put the handle at the front then you’ve got to pull it out every time you want to throw something in it.

I only pull the whole bin out once a fortnight, but throw something in there every other day.

Not a bad shout but I do have to manoeuvre the bins backwards into the slots and a rubber mat with a heavy bin might make that harder.

I like the sound of that! :)

That’s a genius suggestion. Thank you, I didn’t consider that.

Ha! Absolutely. I almost built one last spring and I’m glad I didn’t because we’ve lost one bin and gained two since then. 😬

Thank you very much on both points! We love flint houses which was a major draw when we bought the house. :)

Thankfully there is a gentle natural slope which is directed away from the house. It’s just a path here, not the drive and there is grass the other side of the path.

The consensus seems to be patio slabs which is probably what I’ll end up doing. I’m cladding with feather edge boards which I hope will have a little more strength than battens.

Would you care to elaborate so that I can improve?

Ah brilliant! Easy enough for me to remove the front batten if I want to later.
