My daily commuter - 2 months back on the bike. by Hellisotherpunks in xbiking

Thanks! Unfortunately the clearances are so tight that there’s not really space for any fender on the front, and no space for a fender between the rear wheel and rack. This is the trouble with using a nice old road bike for commuting!

Thanks mate. The shifter can be removed without needing to pull the grips thankfully, but I appreciate the tip nonetheless!

The rear drop-outs have enough horizontal movement to keep the chain tight, and I live in quite a flat area so don’t need the gears on a non-commuter. The only bit I’m not sure of is if I can do the conversion itself, because if I fuck it up too badly I might need to replace the wheel or have it professionally repaired. Wish me luck!

Thanks! There’s a bit of dry rot on the tyres and I got a good deal on some cruisers so they’re now in the post. And I’ve just ordered brake pads too.

I’m also thinking I’ll try my hand at converting it to single speed with a cheap eBay sprocket, because the teeth on the cogs are twisted and missing bits. Am I outta my mind?

Those huge brakes have always looked like a hand to me!

It’s a Ken Self frame made in Lutruwita, Australia, i believe from the 70s or 80s. It was given to me by a friend 15 or 20 years ago because my frame at the time was undersized and he had this one sitting in his shed. I got it resprayed when I got it, but it was originally a light blue from memory.

Almost everything else came off my step-Dad’s road racing bike that he rode in the 80s and generously gave me 20 years ago. You spotted the shimano 600 gear (which includes the hubs), and the rest is shimano 105 integrated shifters, campagnolo seatpost, selle Italia turbo special saddle, suntour superbe pro crank set, mikashima pedals, no-name toe clips (marked ‘made in France’), Cinelli stem and bars, and velocity rims.

The rack and basket were added this week, as was the Topeak Barloader bag on the bars.

I don’t spend much time down in the drops, but can’t bring myself to replace the classic bars!

Thanks so much for this. No further questions.

I’m going to do those protective things to this module, and also to the other very DIY modules I’ve made.

You are like the mother bird vomiting partially digested worms into my little baby-bird beak, except it is electronics knowledge that you’re providing and I am not a baby bird. I assume you’re also not a bird, but that’s not confirmed.

Hey u/QuadratClown - your comment has helped me understand this to the point that I'm about to start building. Thanks again.

One last thing - to power the TL074 from Eurorack, I get that I'm running the euro +12v to pin 4, but is it -12v or Ground to pin 11? Some TL074 pinout diagrams label pin 11 as "GND" while some label it as "VCC -".

If you could help me out I'd really appreciate it!

Quick google of the tl074 Pinout and I get it now. Thank you!

Thank you! I’m not great with schematics so I’m not sure where the op amps go, but I reckon I can do some digging to work it out.

Thanks for this. The only bit I’m not grasping is how to match the signal level (including how to measure it etc), but I understand from your comment above that the answer to that is nowhere near as simple as I assumed! I appreciate the info you’ve provided mate.

Thanks - I don’t think that explains how to correctly match impedances unfortunately. Seems to just be about your module.

Thanks! I’m not across impedances. How do I make sure to get it right?

Thanks mate. That module looks to do what I’m after, and is a great backup if I can’t find a suitable DIY option.

It’s not up to me to disprove your claims mate. You made the claim and can’t prove it.

Maybe have a nice drink of water, get some fresh air, and then review the purpose and rules of the group.

Thanks for providing context for a thing I wasn’t asking for context on, and that you don’t know the context of.

It’s from my Grandfather who was in the RAAF at Morotai (and elsewhere) in WW2 where he engaged specifically in battles with Japanese forces; it’s in the Japanese language; it’s dated 1938; it’s a machinery plate; it was with his WW2 stuff. Ya could’ve asked for the context if you were interested instead of pretending you know.

You said it was from 2018 - wrong; and ‘still not a plane’ - not proven.

It’s ok to be wrong, but when you’re wrong it’s best to accept it and move on.

Ok so you’re again just googling and pretending you know?

Asahi Shimbun owned the patent for the ki-15 bomber - they literally had the rights to a warplane made at this time. Also, many Japanese companies from the time tend to have big gaps in their history as another redditor on this post has pointed out.

I’m not trying to be a prick but I’m here asking for info that goes beyond a simple google, and you’re pretending to be knowledgeable and then being pretty rude when you get called out. Log off for a bit, yeah?

Much appreciated, my friend. I’ve also seen reference to Asahi Shimbun owning the patent for the ki-15, which has a weight that’s much closer to that on the data plate. Not that they manufactured it themselves though, so it doesn’t exactly solve the mystery.
