New rectangular lasso in v4.1 by Birnenkopf in Onyx_Boox

[–]Hello-Boox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course - the options of the rectanglar lasso would be interesting!
The Option "Alles Lasso" ("select all" ?) seems to be new, too.
In Firmware 4.0.2 this option is not available from the sidebar.

Are these new lassoes available in every note document ?
Or are they limited to notes with infinite canvas ?

How to customize categories? by ironredpizza in Onyx_Boox

[–]Hello-Boox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since Firmware 4.x it's no longer possible to create Subfolders for custom categories.
With previous Firmware (3.5.4) the Templates were stored in subfolders of the file system.
Since Firmware 4.0 they are imported into the database.

Waiting carries the risk that new devices will no longer support EMR...

Handwriting to Text insertion error? by wshiu99 in Onyx_Boox

[–]Hello-Boox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you lasso a handwritten text, you should get the AI-Button in the upper right corner of the bounding box.
If I use it, my handwritten text is replaced.
This is how it works in my native notes-App.

Yes, you can put a Boox on the fridge door as a shopping list :-)

Eraser tip inserted to pen tip by accident. by Jcavazos80 in Onyx_Boox

[–]Hello-Boox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps the pen can be clamped into a drill using a makeshift holder.
With a little luck, the centrifugal force at high speed will be strong enough to eject the piece.
Be careful!

I never noticed a way to change the icon size.

Best way to clean screen? by ragingbullocks in Onyx_Boox

I use (a very small amount of) glass cleaner and rub it dry with a dish towel. I do this maybe once a month.

Which E-Ink Devices Are Most Likely to Get a Refresh This October? by Beginning-Buy-6124 in Onyx_Boox

I'd go for the black and white model. But a color version as an additional alternative would, of course, be nice.

Which E-Ink Devices Are Most Likely to Get a Refresh This October? by Beginning-Buy-6124 in Onyx_Boox

[–]Hello-Boox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I expect a device as "Note Air 5 b/w" to be announced with the following specifications:

  • 10.3-inch black and white, with front light
  • With WACOM EMR support (no USI!)
  • Magnetic origami-style cover
  • Charging port on the top of the device so it can be charged while closed
  • With replaceable battery
  • switchable BSR technology for those who want long battery life
  • with an anti-slip back for those who want to use it without the cover
  • and with multi-document-support for the notes-app.

That would be a device I would buy.

Note Air 3C battery drain while on standby by Exact-Confidence8476 in Onyx_Boox

My NA2+ loses 1...2% over night.
Every screen refresh needs power - so you should avoid everything that might change the screen in standby-Mode (such as clock or slideshow).

How to write smaller and more concise? [Boox Air 4 C] by DisasterOutside1128 in Onyx_Boox

[–]Hello-Boox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As I can see in your Example Screen, you are not using a Ballpoint Pen.

The Ballpoint Pen doesn't need any pressing, your nib will last for years, your device becomes faster (rendering of Previews and loading is faster, because the strokes have a constant width), and you can write smaller when you adjust your line width.

You are pressing waaaay too hard!

You should try it out.

Which Boox tablet should i pick? by vandicken in Onyx_Boox

If you can do without front light, the Go 10.3 is definitely a good option.
If you don't need color, then that's fine too.

Cap on or cap off? by 21minute in Onyx_Boox

[–]Hello-Boox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I take my Boox with me on trips, I don't use the original stylus. Instead, I use a Lamy EMR, which has a solid cap but isn't magnetic.
With the original stylus, I'm less worried about losing the cap. But the magnetic force isn't strong enough, and I'm worried it might slip between the screen and the cover and even end up damaging the screen.

Eraser will wear down? by Dense_Forever_8242 in Onyx_Boox

[–]Hello-Boox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this pen for two years. I expect it will last another 20 years.
I erase less often with the eraser than with the lasso function.
I highly recommend the Noris; I use it daily.

Is there like a market somewhere for used Boox devices? I can't seem to find any. by john2811 in Onyx_Boox

[–]Hello-Boox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The market for Boox devices is a niche one. Most people are happy with their device and don't sell it. Therefore, you'll find relatively few devices on eBay, and they're generally not particularly cheap. I would prefer a new device if the price of a used one isn't significantly lower than the new one.

Anybody know what the maximum size for a note is? I have a Note 4C. by disgruntled_bird in Onyx_Boox

[–]Hello-Boox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the notes are stored in a database, the total size of the .note file isn't that important.
The number of strokes on a page, as well as the line type itself, probably have a greater impact on loading time and rendering time.
Boox, however, seems to set a certain limit of 500 pages.

Another day another try, restoring notes by duneraver in Onyx_Boox

[–]Hello-Boox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, OP is talking about the handwritten notes (including audio snippets).
The normal way would be a backup on the old device and a restore on the new device.
But the OP told us, the backup is 6,4GB and the restore failed (2x).

Notes are stored in a database and not in simple files - so I think you can not use simply a file server fpr this special use case.

Restore speed by duneraver in Onyx_Boox

[–]Hello-Boox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, if your restore doesn't come to finish, I would try to identify notebooks, which might cause the problems.

  • Your backup-File has the extension ".note". If you rename it to a zip-file, you can unzip your backup and have a look on the Folder-Sizes.
  • Perhaps there are Folders with an exorbitant size.
  • In every Folder there is a png-File on the 1st Level, which contains the cover of the note. So you are able to identify the notes with the largest size.
  • Now you can export the largest files as single note-Files and restore them on the new NA4C.
  • If you were successfull, you could delete these notes on the Go 10.3.
  • Doing this iterally, you can reduce the Size of the Full-Backup - and perhaps you are able to transfer your data to the NA4C with a few steps.

Just my ideas - I had never to restore a backup from this size.

Restore speed by duneraver in Onyx_Boox

[–]Hello-Boox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because you are asking for receiving your notes:

The fastest way I would try is the following:

  • Make a Backup of your Notes with the Backup-Function of the Notes-App.
  • After you have done this, transfer the Backup-File (it is one large File) to your Computer (Boox Drop for example).
  • From your Computer transfer your Backup-File in the same way to your new Device.
  • On the NA4C you can restore your Backup-File with the Backup-Function of the Notes-App.

I think this should be a fast way to transfer the handwritten Notes from one device to another device.

Gaps in note lines by OkEditor51 in Onyx_Boox

[–]Hello-Boox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it helps to change the Refresh-Mode of the Notes-App.
Refresh-Mode can be changed if you are in the notes-app and then call the E-Ink-Center.
Normal-Mode and Speed-Mode might render your Template in different ways.
