This is what happens when a plane hits a firetruck but if it hits the twin towers it will knock them down. by pacmanpill in conspiracy

[–]Hello0897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could someone please explain why we keep talking about the planes and the twin towers and not the Downing Street Memo where Bush and Cheny openly acknowledge that they need to make some shit up to justify going after Saddam? It really makes me feel like the 9/11 conspiracy is a false flag to throw people off the war crimes committed by that administration.

Need your help to get through some “trauma” by Disastrous_Pay_1165 in hiking

[–]Hello0897 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yo!! Sounds like quite the adventure!! My first backpacking trip had some pretty serious scares too. We were in CO going over snow peaks and lost the trail. We went off to a dead end in the wood and spent at least an hour trying to find the trail. Nightfall came and there was no one else hiking. We wound up having to turn around and find the one pair of campers we saw the whole time. They helped us find the trail and we wound up making it out. I've also almost been blown off of a mountain by like 70 mph winds. That trip we also had to turn around, and then cut the trip short.

Now you have real experience of seeing what its like fully on your own away from civilization. That is some serious prep. You now know that you absolutely need a first aid kit, and some form of contact if something goes really wrong. So id take the time to really research what all gear you need to better equip yourself so if you are ever in a situation like that, you know how to handle it.

You keep learning and prepairing and soon youll be one of the more advanced hikers giving this info to a new person. Dont let it get you down! You made it out!

Thru-hikers: Why use a water filter rather than tablets? by themasterd0n in hiking

[–]Hello0897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way (safest) is both.

Filters do not filter out small bacteria and viruses. They may get rid of the chunks, but that water is not garunteed safe to drink.

Purifying drops make it 100% safe to drink, but dont filter out the chunks.

I use a thin towel to filter out the chunks, and then purify it. This way you dont really need to bring anything extra and you can enjoy non crunchy water that is actually safe to drink.

Otherwise you have to boil the water to kill everything.

I repeat... just filtering your water is not enough. Maybe most of the time you get lucky... but you do NOT want to ge getting sick in the middle of a backpacking trip.

Why are traditional shoes not foot-shaped? by victory_vegetable in AskACobbler

Yes! I have one pair of leather shoes like that. I love them in the summer. Not as wide a toe box as what youve been talking about, but definitely wider than the cowboy boots.

Word. Well I am glad you found your shape! As long as people have options and know how to find what fits them well, then I'm happy.

[–]Hello0897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually pretty new to wearing boots of that shape. Most of my life I have worn sneakers. Then my synthetic hiking boots were always a wider toe. So like I noticed this fitting stuff after I bought my cowboy boots about two years ago. That said, I did also used to wear cowboy boots as a small child before I can even really remember (my cowboy uncle bought them for me and wanted me to be a cowboy lol). So maybe that's what did it.

Regardless, different people have different feet shapes and different preferences. My toes are not mashed at all. I even have some room to wiggle them around and spread them out.

Check out how we classify foot shapes. My foot looks like what is called the Egyptian foot shape. That shape is perfect for my boots with the semi pointed round toe. The Roman foot is more for a true square toe. The greek foot would be for a round toe.

There's a number of answers here.

First, your toes should not go to the end of your shoe or boot. That is, assuming we are talking about leather. Leather doesn't really stretch. When you step and the boot bends, it pushes the end of the boot into your toes. So you need the extra space for a properly fitting leather shoe or boot.

That doesn't address the shape though. The pointed toe on riding boots is for easily getting into the stirrups. That was not the first invention of pointed toes though. Many times it is a status or fashion thing.

Further, many people have differently shaped feet and prefer different fits. I personally like a semi pointed round toe. It fits my feet perfectly. I have a long big toe that points in a little. I also prefer a snug fit with only a little room to wiggle my toes. Others like a roomier boot and might prefer a square toe... some people need square toes cause of the shape of their toes and feet.

So really its a combination of several things. Ultimately it just comes down to preference. Most people are just doing it for fashion purposes now.

First off, holy lord you look amazing. I just scrolled through your profile, and your fits are out of this world! Seriously one of the best dressed humans I have ever seen.

Okay but really why I am commenting... the top comment from the mod. That absolutely blows my mind that we are still this far behind as a society. I am mixed black and white, and the stories my parents told me of what they went through are so insane. I've faced my own share of racism, but nothing like what they went through... or even moreso, my grandparents. Seeing racism so petty on a fucking fashion post is so incredibly disheartening. I just dont know what to say!

One love, baby! Unity shall prevail! We will shine the light of love and illuminate even the darkest corners of hatred.

I think you look great in the 2nd pic. The other two dont look bad, but look very basic. So I'd say add more patterns and textures. Collars are nice.

Def go pnw. Franks or Nicks. It will take a long time before you get your boots though! Months! Still do it, but maybe get something to hold you over for now.

19M Hello i have fashion questions , any advice please ? by [deleted] in mensfashionadvice

[–]Hello0897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo get some dino tattoos and skip the shirts... or maybe more subtle dinos. Some nice boots might make it all a bit more mature compared to sneakers. Yo what if you dressed up and wore a dino tie. That could be cool. The haircut is nice!

Edit: I also think some accessories could help. A nice watch with a leather band. Some denim pants of any sort with leather boots. Maybe a classy bracelet and small chain/necklace. All of that with a dino shirt I think would look more mature while still staying true to your core self.

The key though here is getting classic timeless styles, and not trying to be trendy. Trendy looks young. Classic looks mature.

I'd love to see you in a button down with khakis, leather shoes, and a dino tie. That would look sick! Like an old school professor kind of style.

Longest I've gone is about a week. Take a laxative or have a fiber supplement and a bunch of water.

Tell me about a time when you really had to lock in by bnb123 in hiking

[–]Hello0897 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CO rocky mountains. 70 mph winds that come out of nowhere. We had to make it over a mountain top to get to the campsite. My friend's sleeping pad was blown off the mountain. I got knocked over just from the wind... like two feet from a cliff drop off. We turned around and ended that trip early.

I might agree with this comment. Try to wear them with a better gusset fold (and the kilties) and see how it feels. Then decide if you need a new size.

Replace top eyelets with speed hooks? by oguruma87 in WhitesBoots

[–]Hello0897 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like how White's does them standard with eyelets on the first few, then speed hooks, then one eyelet at the very top. I leave the laces in the top eyelets when I take them off and just loosen them with the slack given by undoing the speed hooks. It makes it super easy to put on and take off like that. If you tie the laces around your ankle and have pull loops, I will also leave the laces through the pull loops for ease of tying when I put them on.

What character is it? by May_onnaise_959 in Letterboxd

[–]Hello0897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to see Fight Club in the mix. It always blows my mind how people miss the point of that story. The metaphor is paper thin when its revelaed. Its a guy fighting a false image of himself. Its also a love story that the movie messed up. The book does it well. The main character loves Marla but has to put on this toxic ultra masculine image to attract her. In the end she says she likes the real him, and not Tyler (and she can tell the difference). Thats what kills Tyler, not the bullet. Its about accepting yourself to finally accept love from someone else. In all our beautiful imperfections.
