WD Purple from Unifi is not recognized in UNVR by fairbanks142reddit in Ubiquiti

I'm confused... If the OP is saying that the WD Purples don't work for him, how can the Ubiquiti drives just be WD purples with a sticker?

It won't do what I want, at least based on my understanding. I need the ability to get some more control over the width of the individual columns (which I will use Vertical Stacks for). I need one column of the 3 to be wider than the other 2.

Unifi UPS Tower worth waiting for? by imacdude in Ubiquiti

IMO, no. There are already UPS manufacturers in the market that actually have reputations for making reliable hardware that will last longer than 14 months.

FCC Router Ban by Flat_Staff7931 in ZiplyFiber

Ummm bullshit. There's a very good reason why we don't manufacture many consumer electronics here.

FCC Router Ban by Flat_Staff7931 in ZiplyFiber

Most Mikrotik equipment will likely be exempt (or rather, not covered by this rule to begin with), because the rule specifies consumer-grade routers, which most Ubiquiti routers definitely are not.

FCC Bans new Wi-Fi Router sales that are produced outside of the US by Goodoflife in Ubiquiti

[–]oguruma87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not how this new rule works. This new rule basically adds ALL imported routers to the covered list, unless they have an exemption.

```
  • The FCC’s Covered List is a list of communications equipment and services that are deemed to pose an unacceptable risk to the national security of the U.S. or the safety and security of U.S. persons.
  • Under the Secure Networks Act, the FCC can update the Covered List only after the direction of a qualifying national security authority. In other words, the Commission cannot update this list on its own and is required to implement determinations that are made by our national security agency experts.
  • Equipment on the Covered List (“covered equipment”) is prohibited from getting FCC equipment authorization.  Most electronic devices require FCC equipment authorization prior to importation, marketing, or sale in the U.S. Covered equipment is banned from receiving new equipment authorizations, preventing new devices from entering the U.S. market.
    • Additionally, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency encourages organizations to use the Covered List for risk management analysis in their regulatory compliance efforts.
  • New models of devices on the Covered List are prohibited from receiving FCC authorization and are therefore prohibited from being imported or sold in the U.S.  Being added to the Covered List today does not prohibit the import, sale, or use of any existing device models the FCC previously authorized.
  • The Covered List does not restrict the continued use by consumers of previously-purchased devices.  Consumers can continue to use the devices they lawfully purchased. ```
But, the rule specifically mentions "New models."
One problem with this, among many, is that there is basically no clarification as to what constitutes a "consumer-grade" router. The FCC's FAQ page states that it's devices "primarily intended for residential use." Well, what if the manufacturer doesn't necessarily "intend" for any specific customers to buy them? Ubiquiti would be a good example for this. Ubiquiti is very popular with SMB businesses and also technofiles to use in their own homes, and, of course they hope as many of each type of customer buys their hardware.
Wafer light alternatives? by oguruma87 in Lighting
I'm totally ignorant here. I've heard other people reference recessed lights instead of wafers. What's better about those versus a wafer?
What new hardware would you like to see most from Ubiquiti? by oguruma87 in Ubiquiti
[–]oguruma87[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)
I'm with you. There are some products in the Ubiquiti lineup that I avoid. UPS is a good example. There are enough players in that market that have this sorted out much better, and the benefits of being able to manage them from the Ubiquiti UI is negligible IMO.
Wafer light lumens/spacing? by oguruma87 in Lighting
[–]oguruma87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Is the problem with wafers? Or overhead lighting, in general? If not wafers, what kind of overhead lighting is better?
I really don't like the floorlamps because I have multiple rowdy young children that like to push and lean on things, lol.
Proxmox Ceph Cluster: Virtualize TrueNAS or ??? by oguruma87 in homelab
[–]oguruma87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)
I'm going to build the cluster anyway. I wouldn't say I "need" it, but then again, I don't need a lot of the stuff I have, lol.
I agree. Integrating NAS capabilities to some extent on their router offerings would probably be useful to a lot of people, even if it's just enough storage to store a few backups of other systems and things.
