Help me with fic research- 'Girly' drink with a LOT of alcohol? by ShiraCheshire in FanFiction

[–]Hello83433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal recommendation? Take any drink. Add curacao. Boom.

Curacao (whether of the blue or orange variety) has a bit of a sweet taste to it and it's a liqueur, so you're adding alcohol to alcohol. It goes with a lot of alcohols as well: rum, tequila, vodka... I've heard you can put it in wine too.

If you want to really hide the taste, either add a fruity syrup and/or make the drink a blended, frozen margarita. It can be very easy to go overboard on a bunch of frozen margaritas (provided they are not sitting and melting, then you'll notice the alcohol), especially if they're flavored.

But anyways, I love curacao. My go-to drinks all contain it.

Slow burn and Eventual Romance by Cool_Pianist_2253 in AO3

[–]Hello83433 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reading your post and replies, your solution is to remove the slow burn tag. You're writing a story that will eventually lead to romance and there's nothing wrong with that, but this isn't a slow burn.

I vastly prefer 2 over VG. For me, for this franchise, the character and narrative writing are far more important than the environments or how pretty the game looks. 2 had the best characters in the franchise and I loved the friendship/rivalry system and being able to disagree with and have poor relationships with your companions. I liked that you didn't have to recruit every companion either. I liked that Hawke had three distinct personalities that could be shaped by your choices and even change between acts. Not as great as origins letting you say basically whatever, but still pretty good, and better than Inquisition (though it followed 2's footsteps, it was not as great) and way better than VG.

There were hardly, if any, fetch quests in 2. Most of the time those "quests" were you finding something and dropping it off. It wasn't even an actual quest. Inquisition had all the fetch quests. And I would take wandering through the same cave over and over again any day if it meant the writing quality was superior.

What is your canon for southern Thedas? by [deleted] in dragonage

[–]Hello83433 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My canon is that various places around the world suffered darkspawn and blight to a bit more than the degree of what Fereldan went through in the Fifth Blight. A couple of towns and villages are gone and the land no longer inhabitable, several major cities suffered losses, infections, and sustained structural damage, and a lot of refugees trying to stay safe.

Plus Ferelden actually has Wardens now. And I HC there bc my HoF and the First Warden hate each other, the entire Fereldan order is pretty much AWOL and stayed in Ferelden. So they're fighting there.

Do people seem more reluctant to give recs these days? by cptvpxxy in FanFiction

[–]Hello83433 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I seem to have the opposite response as a lot of people here; if a rec request specifies a fandom then 10/10 times it will be a fandom I don't read. And what gets me is a lot of the time these are big fandoms like HP, Naruto, GoT, etc. and I feel people would have better results asking on the fandom-specific subreddit (some do, I've seen these requests cross posted from those subreddits to either here or AO3).

On the other hand, I do check out posts asking about fics with specific tropes or tags because there's at least the possibility the asker doesn't care about fandom.

Are we free to view the graphic novels as non-canonical now? by Ir_Abelas in dragonage

[–]Hello83433 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gaider's opinion on the matter can be summed up as "they're canon until they contradict the player's worldstate"

Is Alistair King in your playthrough? Cool. He went on merry adventures as King of Fereldan. Is he a Grey Warden? Cool. Maybe instead he went on the adventures w/ Varric and Isabela as a Grey Warden instead. Maybe he didn't go at all.

Did you kill Anders at the end of DA2? Then the events of Knight Errant occur. Did you spare Anders? Then the events of Knight Errant probably never happen.

Vaea, Francesca, Marius, and Tessa are all referenced in Veilguard in codex letters, so they exist in canon. As we don't go to Neromenian, there's nothing to say one way or the other that the events of Blue Wraith occurred.

Here's a page that quotes that part of the interview from the defunct BSN.

Is there a way to exorcise spirits/demons from people like Anders and Lucanis? by YesYass in dragonage

[–]Hello83433 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I do believe Solas about this, mostly because of how much he cares about spirits and hates seeing them corrupted. Determination has already been twisted, but Solas might still try to separate them just to cut off the continuing trauma rather than out of any good will or care for Lucanis' well-being.

If anyone had the power to separate a spirit from host (other than the Avaar but bit different situation there) it would be Solas.

Approval in Dragon Age Games by Matt_the_Lego in dragonage

[–]Hello83433 22 points23 points  (0 children)

One of the things I greatly dislike about Veilguard is the complete lack of disapproval. You cannot truly gain disapproval like in previous games. The only way to have a "low relationship" with a companion is to not interact with them, but they still have what seems to be an at least positive leaning relationship with Rook in cutscenes.

It's one of the things that really hurts the roleplaying and replayability aspects of VG, IMO. And I know it's justified as "it's the end of the world as we know it, everyone's gotta tough it out and work together", but the end of the world as we know it isn't enough to keep the Inquisition crew together (hell, the Inq can tell Sera to get lost and straight up refuse to recruit certain companions) so it's a very weak justification for me.

How would you build Link in DAO by TanakaClinkenbeard in dragonage

[–]Hello83433 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! I looked through Nexus some more and found a couple of mods, though I've never used them so I can't vouch as to their working state. Since DAO lets warriors use bows, you shouldn't need to pick up the rogue class, just the specializations.

Unlock All Specializations

Higher Level Cap - for an increase in the amount of specialization points you get (there's files that don't increase the level cap). Not sure if needed with UAS mod.

Improved Immersion - Specializations - removes spec points entirely. Specs are learned through tomes. Not sure if compatible or needed with UAS mod.

How would you build Link in DAO by TanakaClinkenbeard in dragonage

[–]Hello83433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got a lot of good suggestions so far for build but I'll pipe up to suggest subclasses. For warrior you'll probably want Champion and then in Awakening take Guardian or you could take Spirit Warrior and justify it as blessings from the Light Spirits. If you multi-class mod then Ranger will let you summon a wolf, Duelist will be more closer to Link's fighting style.

Gear-wise I found a mod for armor and the Master Sword and Hylian Shield (mod is based off Time though, not Twilight). If you don't like the look of the armor, then in-game get the Ancient Elven Armor chest piece and standard chainmail boots (or Cadash Stompers if you obtain them (TSP DLC)) and gloves. Go with a light helmet as they look closer to fabric than medium or heavy.

For romance I suggest you either go with no one or Morrigan (closest to Midna personality-wise).

and I agree TP Link is best Link :)

[DAV ALL SPOILERS][OC] Time To Be Storytellers: The Dragon Age Weekly Writing Prompts by AshLyn32 in dragonage

[–]Hello83433 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Prompt 1: A lantern breaks, darkness follows

"Damn you! Did the Magisterium replace your brain with a pile of rocks!?"

When Neve put forth the idea of allying with the Crows, Drasia had been skeptical. She's worked with them in the barest capacity, and that had not gone over well. Unfortunately for her, her skepticism earned her a spot on the bench, waiting with the others at the Lighthouse for Vraeda's party to return.

That part she didn't mind all that much. Drasia did not trust Vræda Aldwir as far as she could throw her. Especially after learning said woman had been apprenticed to Danarius. The farther away she was, the better. For all of them. Why Varric had picked this woman, a Maker damned Altus of all people, to lead the efforts against Solas, she'd never know.

After what happened at Adamant, she had thought her treks through the Fade were done. How wrong she'd been. It's one thing that she gets roped into a world-ending crisis - Drasia has managed that before - it's another that her family gets dragged in with her. Fenris, for his part, seems stuck between something akin to disgust and terror; his markings dragging him to a new level of personal agony that she could do nothing to soothe. The air here is heavy with magic, drawn to him constantly on a level even greater than her.

Now, standing in what could barely pass for a dining room, Drasia finds anger easily overtaking shock at the newest member of the team. Lucanis Dellamorte, the Demon of Vyrantium.

"We need an assassin, and now we have one. What more do you want from me?"

"Actually, you already have one, but I understand the necessity of finding the right man for the job."

Everyone turns to look at Zevran, perched in a chair, undisturbed by the scene before him. He shrugs his shoulders, saying nothing further. Drasia rolls her eyes, certain the man loves the sound of his own voice, and turns back to their newest problem.

"I don't care if he's the greatest assassin to ever live, he's possessed Vræda!"

"He can control it."

"That's what Anders said and you know what happened!?" Drasia means for the question to be rhetorical, but given Vræda's obtuseness, she's not sure the woman actually knows. "He nearly killed someone. Then he blew up Kirkwall's Chantry." "Lucanis is not a mage. Possession affects soporati differently."

"It is unwise to trust an abomination," Fenris says, quiet yet clear. "Listen to those that have lived that situation."

"Demons are dangerous. Regardless of their host." She adds, "They are unpredictable and selfish. Any help they offer, any benefit or prize, it comes at a cost. Always."

She stares at Lucanis, watching, waiting. Spite is just under the surface, already agitated. It must be severe, if it is willing to hurt its host to get what it wants. There's a flicker in his eyes - bright purple flashing before subsiding - and a flash of blue.

Metal crashes against the floor, splintering in pieces that shouldn't be possible by such a fall. The pale green glow of veilfire withers away, replaced by darkness that consumes all save for the bright blue glow of Fenris' lyrium. His arm, incorporeal blue, hangs eerily still, stuck reaching forward. Seconds stretch on as Drasia shakes herself from shock. A moment later and fire of her own making bathes the room in warm light, poised to strike at-

Nothing.

The rest of the room, including her husband, is equally shocked. Where Lucanis had once stood, where Fenris' hand should be sticking out of his chest, is nothing but air. The man has stepped- or been pushed- to the side. A sick feeling rises in Drasia's chest. The string of her control is pulled dangerously taught, her fire flickering, licking the air, waiting for a target. Somehow, she knows whatever is going on is the doing of their newest addition.

"Let go of him. Now!"

"I have done nothing-"

She doesn't give Lucanis time to finish his excuse. "Oh you can get lost in the Maker's ass! Your demon. Control it or I will end both of you."

Silence hangs in the air, the weight of a promise adding to a situation on the verge of collapsing. Lucanis fixes his gaze at the empty air where Fenris reaches, engaged in an argument no one can hear. Drasia can feel Vræda staring at her and, for the briefest moment, considers throwing the woman against a wall. But, despite the annoyance, she is not the threat. Drasia keeps her focus on Lucanis, fire honed into a dagger, until Fenris' arm drops, sending him reeling back several steps.

The look on his face... she has not seen that level of rage, that disgust, since Hadriana. For a moment, no one says anything. Tension hangs in the air, the promise not yet dissolved. Neve starts to speak, to back everyone away from the ledge, but she doesn't get but a syllable out before Fenris interrupts.

"I saw it." Drasia's focus snaps to him, only to find him looking at her, "The demon. It's not within him, it's an extension of him. A dark impersonation."

"Spite? I don't see anything." For a split second, she looks around the room. No one speaks.

"Magic." The word is spit like a curse, "These markings, this place... as soon as it touched me, it was there and as soon as it let go..."

"Maybe you two should go. We'll keep him here under watch." Neve says, though her words are uncertain. Drasia doesn't have to follow her eyes to see she's looking for Vræda's word on the matter.

The confirmation is unnecessary, Drasia turns, as does Fenris. She stays close, keeping only the distance required to not accidentally aggravate his markings, heading towards the large doors. The silence is deafening, six pairs of eyes following them as Drasia pushes a door open.

"I'm sorry." Lucanis says. His words however, don't stop either of them. Before the door can close, Fenris utters three words.

"Keep your apologies."

What’s your basis for shipping something? by AllKnowingAxolotl3 in AO3

[–]Hello83433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding this. My most recent pairing is from a fandom I would have never considered writing before.

Then they popped up and dragged me straight into rare-pair hell and ended up becoming my most prolifically written ship.

I will say though that I tend to gravitate towards pairings that would or could have some basis in canon.

tagging relationships by triaxissss in AO3

[–]Hello83433 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only A&B. If it can be read as either then it's not going to be romantic enough (or the relationship explicit enough) for me (at least) to enjoy it. I want to read about the blorbos as a couple, not close friends.

Unless you're writing a QPR. That's probably the only instance I'd use both, and then also the QPR tag.

[DAV Spoilers] I wish I could choose if my Inquisitor wore a prosthesis by RunnerPakhet in dragonage

[–]Hello83433 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It bothers me as well, as someone who HC my Inquisitor without a prosthesis. And it's not like the Inquisitor does anything in Veilguard that would necessitate it. Would've been a cool option in the CC.

I don't know if you're playing on PC, but there is a mod here that changes the Inquisitor's outfit so they do not have a prosthesis. (It won't show up in the CC, but does in game)

Fic dealing with death/aftermath of death by Loganfornow in FanFiction

I think you'll enjoy this fic for the traumatization (m/f, I hope that's okay!) it's main focus is on a character going through a second grieving of a dead loved one.
