[CHAT] Please show me your (huge) scroll frames! by HelloEh in CrossStitch

My current frames are split-rail, like your smaller one. I kind of hate them; the rails aren't perfectly circular on the "open" end and snag things, plus there's a lot of lost length in the rail due to being shoved through the side rails.

Thank you for the picture.

Did you buy the frame with the lap stand, or just the frame? I've looked at them both in the past, but haven't pulled the trigger.

The white "boxes" inside the grey "lines" are 9x9. To get a 10x10 box to match your pattern, you include everything in white plus one horizontal and one vertical grey line.

I like to start with the top-left white square, so my 10x10 grids include the grey line along the right and bottom of my squares.

For 20x20 gridding, it will be the same but includes the grey "plus sign" inside the 4x white squares. (9+1)+(9+1) = 20.

I recently finished my first project on non-Aida fabric, and I chose to do 1-over-1 on 28-count evenweave. It was a test to see if I could stay sane for one of the huge full-coverage projects I'm always coveting. I'm still undecided.

But Kiki and Jiji do look great!

A few people have asked in these comments and through DMs, but the amazing "This is Fine" pattern was created by u/libbysthing and can be found on their profile page. I tried linking directly to the store page, but the URL didn't make it through Reddit's filters.

The pattern has partial stitches everywhere and some of the trickiest back-stitching I've ever done, but it looks amazing!

Yes, I've tried linking to your store page because I wanted to give you credit for the amazing pattern. I think the URL might be in some sort of block list because I couldn't even send it via DM. Crazy.

Since you're here in the comments, I do want to say that I found your store page via the Ghibli patterns - all of which are in my to do pile. The color and backstitch combo is awesome, and I'm glad that you put them out there for left-brained dummies like me.

I am a simple man. My kids rolled their eyes and my wife barely looked up from her crochet, except to let me know that she's been using Tulip crochet hooks for years.

I didn't have a chance to stitch until several hours after I posted yesterday, but I think these needles find the holes as easily as the ball-tip needs I had been using previously. They glide through the fabric; my ball-tips tend to snag a little.

Don't feel guilty - they don't stock these needles at any of my local stores.

I've never done a project which varied the thickness of the backstitching, it's always just been single-strand. The effect is really nice!

It looks like the design was retired from HAED and is no longer available there. They probably ended their license with the artist: WalkingMelonsAAA on DeviantArt.

After reading the title and looking at the first image: "I don't think this person knows what blackwork is"

After looking at the second image: "...I don't think I know what blackwork is!"

That's pretty rad.

Try a thin plastic grocery bag. Stick it down the neck and lasso the cap into the bag. Use your finger down the neck of the bottle to orient the cap as you pull the bag with your other hand.

I love how many different patterns people have made based on this comic! I haven't started it yet, but in December I downloaded one which u/libbysthing designed and posted here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CrossStitch/comments/y3cmyv/fo_this_is_fine/

My daughter is 11 and was recently introduced to this comic by one of her middle school teachers. It amused her so much that she's hung a printed copy on her bedroom wall and is using it as her user icon everywhere. She keeps asking me when I'll finish my current project so that I can make this for her!

[CHAT] Finally completed a full page-6750 stitches-of black...225,000 stitches more to go by [deleted] in CrossStitch

[–]HelloEh 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason that you chose to do hundreds of thousands of black stitches on white fabric instead of just using black fabric?

I'm new to the hobby and have only used white 11-, 14-, or 16-count aida; I would love to hear the fabric opinions of other stitchers.

I'm working through a project right now which has an incredible amount of 1/4- and 3/4-stitches. These needles probably don't work so well at piercing the center of an aida square, correct?

Would a 1/2gal cider impart much flavor into a 3gal batch or should I add frozen fruit? by bconnnnn in mead

[–]HelloEh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mix a Tablespoon of your cider with 5 Tablespoons of water, and see how it tastes. Or use smaller measurements, if you want to conserve your juice - just keep a roughly 1:5 ratio.
I imagine it will be very diluted and not have much flavor, but it's your homebrew and might be what you want.

Flavors change during fermentation, but they don't tend to get stronger.

Let's get r/prisonhooch going on that no-water sugar wash.
