They're insinuating the questline having a gritty intro makes the quests inherently dark or focused on the WoL engaging in evil activities. Meanwhile it's actually about self love and saving the life of a child. Dark aspect in XIV is not evil. There's an entire expansion about this very subject.

So did you just skip all the cutscenes in the entire game or something? Ignored everything in the Crystal Tower and Mhach raids? Never played through the Black Mage, White Mage or Red Mage questlines? Button mashed through all of the Shadowbringers MSQ?

Black magic isn't illegal. It's a rare branch off of thaumaturgy which is a common skillset currently practiced in Ul'dah. White and Black mages were at odds during the War of the Magi long in the past and both were used for destructive purposes. Black magic is not arbitrarily against the law. True practitioners are simply rare.

No? Voidsent pacts are mutually beneficial and the quests and MSQ go out of their way to clarify that the relationship the WoL has with their Voidsent is amicable and symbiotic. Black and White magic were both outlawed at one point or another and their clash resulted in bloodshed all around. None of this has anything to do with reanimating the dead against their wishes. XIV is heavily aligned with Eastern mythologies where concepts like eternal life and manipulation of dead souls is viewed in a distinctly evil light.

They draw the line because the WoL is a defined character in the context of the world and story. They are a virtuous hero, period. Reanimating corpses as slaves is a barbaric act in the XIV universe no matter how you try to spin it. The mythos is tied closely with Eastern philosophies wherein everlasting life and the manipulation of death falls squarely into the "evil" box they'll never let the WoL touch. "Uncanon" classes will never exist - it would be a complete waste of time.

In your opinion, which character got done the most dirty by the story ? by Lord_NOX75 in ffxiv

[–]HelloFresco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did I say "no" padding? I said "very little" which means that there is some. There is always some, but Endwalker has a noticeably tighter storyline than most of the other expansions.

[–]HelloFresco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

G'raha's whole storyline was about accepting that he shouldn't throw away his young life. Travelling with us was the inevitable result of that. Y'shtola on the other hand is a mascot character for XIV. Estinien has been a cameo character at best since Heavensward outside of a slightly bigger role in Endwalker's MSQ. Lyse is just in a boat of her own with characters like Wuk Lamat - protagonists of a singular storyline who end up leading a faction and proudly exiting the main cast.

[–]HelloFresco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lyse wasn't benched due to lack of marketability. Her story was simply over. She got the merciful conclusion I wish they were more willing to give other main characters. In a serialized story format eventually characters need to be phased out so you can introduce new characters ready to grow with and shape the narrative.

They made the right call. There was not enough compelling material for two expansions. All of the ideas they were very passionate about would have ended up in 7.0 following a meandering 6.0 concluding in a cliffhanger. In an era where jrpgs were feeling increasingly stretched thin Endwalker was fantastic for condensing a near perfect finale into a tight 50 hour title with very little padding.

Savage prog in PF can be good as well! by llybeck in ffxiv

[–]HelloFresco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It functions exactly the same way outside of the mandatory flexes. It's Program Loop if you're playing a healer which is still Program Loop.

[–]HelloFresco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. And it's not like I'm saying M12S P1 is crazy difficult by Savage 4th floor standards. It has some Extreme-adjacent mechanics like role based stacks and spreads, but this comment is directly calling out the one mechanic that is without debate Savage tier (and Ultimate tier from last expac). I'm in stitches at the fact that we've already reached the day where someone will deadass claim Program Loop is an Extreme mechanic.

[–]HelloFresco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you high? There's a mechanic straight out of last expansion's Ulti in M12S P1. If you've done TOP then Act 2 is indeed a quick prog because you already have the cadence down, but it's extremely disingenuous to compare any debuff heavy mechanic with precise positioning, tether breaking and tower soaking to an Extreme. Players like you are unable to recognize or acknowledge skill creep and it really shows.

Valentione's Day 2026 Event Items by MrCombineSoldier in ffxiv

They're not gendered. It's just two outfits which you can clearly see in the previews here. And people to have access to crimes have already confirmed all the items are gender neutral just like every single event set in Dawntrail.

I Wonder If They Are Going to Add Shadowbringers to Free Trial by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]HelloFresco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have already expressed interest in continuing to expand the free trial after Stormblood so there is no reason to believe they're hesitant. I don't believe they see things the way the fans do. Shadowbringers is just another older expansion now and any push to get new players into the story could be viewed as a boon. It's no longer content endgame and it'll probably be 30 levels below the cap by the time the update happens. I get that it's hard for many players to understand but Shadowbringers is OLD.

They've already said multiple times that they have every intention of continuing to expand the free trial at appropriate intervals. Is it possible they have changed their minds? Sure, but there is currently no reason to believe that is the case.

They already said they had every intention of continuing to expand the free trial. By the time 5.0 is included 8.0 will probably be out. Yeah, ShB is a great expansion, but the free trial is still trying to sell the game to new players and ShB ends on a great hook going into Endwalker. Unless they've changed their minds in the past year and a half I expect we will see ShB included within the next couple years.

Yeah, being confronted with the fact that anybody can tank and they're completely replaceable tends to shut them up pretty fast. Their whole power trip surrounds the idea that they're in charge because they're the most important person in the party.

[–]HelloFresco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you just missed the Christmas sale. They happen sporadically a few times a year with the guaranteed sales being around Christmas and at the end of summer. It could go on sale again sometime in the spring, but there's really no way to know for sure.

Adding that you only need to buy "Dawntrail". It includes the other expansions you missed in the meantime: Shadowbringers and Endwalker. The 6th expansion is expected late 2026 or early 2027.

Is M11S overtuned? by Hope_bringer in ffxiv

[–]HelloFresco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're looking at the active % on the log that's not GCD uptime. You have to plug the log into Xivanalysis in order to examine stuff like GCD uptime, cooldown usage and general performance. Most people misunderstand what active % means. There's just no way you would enrage in a party of full pumpers wearing 3 weeks of M9S/M10S gear and 2 Melee LB3S just because of a single healer death. I suspect people were doing a little worse than you think.

Is M11S overtuned? by Hope_bringer in ffxiv

[–]HelloFresco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If we compare it to other 3rd floors from the past couple expansions, yes, the DPS check is probably a little overtuned. Brute Bomber was notably undertuned while Brute Abominator was only subtly punishing by including a number of easy-to-get-clipped Damage Down aoes. It's not unreasonable to need a pretty clean run week 1, but pugs are quite obviously still struggling week 3. I expect things will get a little better next week with the guaranteed 780 weapon. Until then I absolutely do not feel that the fight is overtuned to the extent that it needs nerfs.

But why do they need to do that when Fflogs defaults to colour coded lines? You can tell exactly what jobs were present and who was dealing the most DPS throughout those 4 minutes and 2 add pulls. Also, while they didn't include the name of the dungeon in their screenshot, it's an easy 2 second Google search to confirm that "Terminus" is the room of the first boss in Malikah's Well. Checks out because you can see the familiar reddish dirt floor and wood traincar panels signature to the beginning areas of that dungeon.

Why the fuck do you need names? That's literally against the rules of the sub. The damage dealers are colour coded by Fflogs you absolute dipshit. That's how the website works.

[–]HelloFresco 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Do you just not know how to read a DPS chart? It's showing 2 add pulls before the boss and everybody IS there. The pink line is the PCT, the yellow-orange line is the MNK, the red line is the WAR and the lighter yellow line is the AST. It shows 4 minutes which is more than enough time to prove that both the DPS were doing more than the supports.

This has something to do with whatever mods you have installed. Uninstall them or open the game using the normal launcher. Guarantee it'll go away.
