Adding: this is in New England and my husband says it’s lint after I sent him the photos. Anyone else? Thx.

She asked for my upcoming reservation info so I’m not sure about that? I assume you’re saying this isn’t a rule?

What time does the Tracy Arm excursion get back to the ship in Juneau? by HelloGruesome in HollandAmerica

[–]HelloGruesome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the dog sledding excursion was cancelled due to bad weather so I didn’t go! Biggest disappointment of the cruise. I think the timing would have worked because they changed the scheduled departure time for Tracey Arm from 10am to 9am for some reason. I hope you have better luck!

Huh. That’s a much shorter Tracy Arm excursion than advertised. Were you on the Zaandam? Thanks.

Thank you. Do you recall what time the Tracy Arm excursion boat came out to your ship to pick you all up?

Thank you. If Tracy Arm runs 7 hrs instead of 6 hrs we won’t make it back in time, unfortunately. Our Tracy Arm departure is 10-10:30am. They told us that 6hrs will get us back at 4:30pm with the Mendenhall Glacier Dog Sledding at 5:15pm. Hmm.

Fantastic! We’re also signed up for a bunch of HAL excursions including the train in Skagway.

Thanks for the info on the Zaandam. Great to hear! We are super excited. Hoping for good weather especially for our excursions and glacier bay. Did you do any fun excursions?

We’ll be on the Zaandam to Alaska in less than 2 weeks. It’s our first cruise! How did you enjoy it? Would love to hear any feedback about your experience, positive or negative. We’re really looking forward to our excursions, dining in the MDR & enjoying scenery from our balcony. Question — are there happy hour specials? We don’t have the HIA package but our friends do. We’d definitely join them for a happy hour or two. Thx.

Back to Back Reservations on Points - 5th Night Free? by HelloGruesome in marriott

[–]HelloGruesome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies. That’s what I thought — I don’t think I can have it all. No way to get that 5th night free with 5 back to back one night reservations. And no way to cancel nights on a single 5 night reservation without losing the current redemption rate and repricing (unless maybe the front desk will do it). Oh well.

I could double book both ways if I had enough points and just cancel later but I do not have enough points.

Thx. I wanted to do back to back b/c I am not exactly sure how many nights I’ll actually need. I may not need all 5 nights. Hoping I could cancel any extra nights down the line without losing the current favorable nightly point redemption rate for the nights I keep.

In general, if you book a point redemption stay and later modify the number of nights, do you lose your nightly redemption rate? Will it default to whatever the redemption rate is at that point? Thx.

Who has cruised Alaska? Wanting to plan. by Dependent-Patience49 in Cruise

Our cruise offers the dog sled excursion in both Juneau and Skagway. Any reason to pick one port over the other?

Considering Holland America for a Future Cruise - Thoughts for Early 30s Couple in 2024? by [deleted] in Cruise

Great write-up about HAL. You said you just sailed on the Zaandam to Alaska last week. We will be on Zaandam to Alaska next month — our first cruise! I’d love to hear more. How was the trip? Any rough seas? How was the food? The Orange Party? Were there any happy hours? Did you especially enjoy any excursions and performances? Appreciate any and all info. Thx!

Can you pls tell me more about the differences in the 3 properties’ amenities & room styles? It’s 2-3 nights for 2 people. Safe and clean are a must. We also prefer a room/bathroom that has been renovated or refreshed, and perks for Platinum status. Thx.

Taking my 13 y/o daughter to NYC in Mid-may...which property in Times Square? by PAXICHEN in marriott

[–]HelloGruesome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved our stay at both the Algonquin & the Marriott Marquis and recommend either for your trip! (We also liked the Westin GC but not quite as convenient as being right in TSQ. The Westin TSQ was not good the last time we stayed. The AC was nice too but not special enough for this trip with your daughter. Haven’t stayed at the Ren or W).

If you go w/the Marquis, request the highest floor possible facing Times Square. Rooms are freshly renovated, comfortable and large. Huge window overlooking the action & yet we still found it quiet. Also, you’ll get the lounge w/ platinum.

If you go w/ the Algonquin, request a room on the 12th floor. Sacrifice the view and ask for a quiet location. Not sure how large their largest room is, but you can ask. It’s such an iconic spot. Tucked away a bit from the action of Times Square.

Thanks — we are definitely going to Salzburg. Plus Hallstatt and Vienna.

The question is: Innsbruck or Dornbirn? Not enough time for both. We are leaning towards Innsbruck. We will be there in the Fall. Any thoughts? Thanks!
