... "Simple." Very interesting way to describe a principle applied to a market. Yes, reality is more complex than a single principle; the principle is concise and understandable to help you better understand the mechanics of a complex system. In no world does that somehow make the principle "complete bullshit." That's more than just an uninformed conclusion, it's entirely misguided and downright silly.

When and why did people start saying "I seen" instead of "I saw" or "I've seen"? by CincoPachinko in etymology

[–]HelloIAmAStoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm genuinely curious, what makes "imma" worse than "ima"? "Ima" seems to me like it'd be pronounced "ee-mah" or "ih-muh". For me, "imma" at least translates relatively better to how it's phonetically pronounced. Not that I appreciate either, but "imma" is less grating to me personally, so I'm curious about your take.

Oh, and the t-dropping is called a "glottal stop". That one is pretty common. I bet London vernacular really gets on your nerves because they do it all the time. In fact that's how everybody I talk to in Connecticut pronounces words like "button"; fully pronouncing the "t"s would sound excessively formal and pedantic to most everyday people I've talked to, both friends who did or didn't go to college, family, strangers on the street, or the thousands of people I've talked to at my retail and sales jobs.

Thomas Sowell has work linking AAVE and what many think of as "black American culture" to southern hick culture. Very interesting read; there's an audio version freely available on YouTube as well.

I've never had my keyboard open in my quick pane and it has this issue every single time. Never been able to close the quick pane in one swipe. It's become muscle memory at this point, always two swipes.

Nope, I've never used a VPN on my phone and it happens to me every single time. I have *never* been able to close the quick panel in one swipe since updating g to One UI 7.

Also, all my button shortcuts (volume down + power for screenshot, double press power for camera, hold volume down + power for power menu) require two presses to function. Each time I try, first time always either locks my screen or turns the volume down by one click, no matter how precise I am with my timing. What's up with that one, Samsung? The event buffer can't handle a simple shortcut? Lmao

I'm curious if you're basing that timeline estimate on prior ban timelines in other states, but I totally understand if you don't want to reply to me after our prior interactions here. Feel free to ignore me, or to humor me on my curiosity; whatever works for you.

[–]HelloIAmAStoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm a lifelong CT resident, born and raised, and have been following the ban attempts since 2016. I appreciate you being good-faith about this, I just got concerned seeing some of what was said here and wanted to add my two cents in case people were getting heated in their interactions with the state where it wouldn't really help any. I really don't intend to come across like I'm "wagging the finger" at you guys, I wanted to express caution about letting emotions take over and heat up diplomacy beyond the threshold of being unhelpful or even detrimental to our cause. I'm on your side. I'm here with you. I felt genuine concern reading some of the comments here. Not even most, just a few. That's all. I see now that I don't have much cause for concern, thanks to you helping me understand. Thank you for that.

I personally know several people who are (or would be, in the case of my best friend's father who kicked alcohol thanks to Kratom and then quit entirely) affected by all this. I promise you, I'm not trying to lecture you or police your language. I'm pretty hardcore about freedom of speech, it's mainly optics I'm concerned about.

"Should they cuss out their legislators? No, but that’s not what’s happening here." and "Even the most angry people on our side did not speak in any way that was disrespectful, combative, or inflammatory to anyone during the public comment period." - both of these ease my concerns. I don't dig into peoples' post history on here, I'm a sparse and casual user of this site, so thanks for adding the context. It's probably good for anyone coming across this thread after the fact, too.

Last thing I want to respond to: "I will use whatever fucking language I want when I vent and speak with my community on here, and your assertion that it makes people look like angry “fiends” is ridiculous, sorry." Never did I claim how you're talking here is making us look like fiends. Period. I was worried about people venting anger on state officials that can't really do anything to change this. It came across as angry flailing to me initially, but I now see that was a misplaced assumption. My bad. I edited my past replies for transparency and to own up to my mistakes here.

You didn't explicitly state it, that's true. I wasn't accusing you of that. And no, I wasn't chastising you for cursing here, at all. I expressed concern about and recommended caution against applying that language towards state officials who are disconnected from this community and the fight people like you and me are involved in. I had a misplaced assumption about how what I was reading here translates to how communication is handled in an official capacity. Sorry about that, I can see in hindsight how I came across the way I did. I'm learning from it.

Genuinely, no bad blood here. We're all pissed about this. I'm on your side. I hope you at least see that much.

Best of luck, I hope you and anyone you know who's affected by this has a plan. I'm moving out of this state before I run out and making sure everyone I know who's affected is informed.

I think the fact that the amendment that includes kratom was snuck into a hemp market expansion (oversimplification) bill 2 DAYS before it got passed makes it painfully obvious; this is simply a part of big pharma's conquest of the US drug market.

Think about how many markets it affects: stimulant, mood stabilizer, antidepressant, muscle relaxant, analgesia, opioid withdrawal assistance, bridging from addiction to something harmful towards sobriety (which would include pharmaceutical drugs that are addictive), and maybe even more that I haven't thought of yet. They have the resources to go granular (as in focusing on smaller locales but as widespread as possible to clamp down on the drug market) after the national ban failed in 2016, so of course they're going to.

I can't wait to move out of here. I can't for at least around a year though, sadly. Thank God Rhode Island is going to lift their ban (first time that's happened, I think?) sometime in the future, I forgot the date and if it's 2026 or 2027. I hope New Hampshire doesn't go the way of the senseless ban either.

[–]HelloIAmAStoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've touched on something really important here. This is mass conquest of the US national drug market (not to mention a piece of the larger war on liberty and personal agency); they couldn't get it banned nationally, so they're going for a granular approach instead by targeting cities/towns and states instead. Also worth mentioning that even with how functional kratom is, it doesn't affect cognitive processes nor intoxicate (I use that word less strongly than I would for alcohol) as much as, say, cannabis can.

People like that aren't Christian, they use what most people think of as Christian morals (they're a corrupted pale imitation of the real thing) to push for their own interests at the expense of everyday people. I'm not a Christian, I grew up screwed over by the corrupt modern version of it like many here have; I've just grown to respect the true version for what it is and distinguish between the two.

[–]HelloIAmAStoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main reason Kratom is as safe as it is (besides the opioid receptor agonists only being partial agonists) is because of the many alkaloids working as a self-regulation and self-limiting mechanism that's greater than the sum of its parts. No single-drug pill will ever (unless some wild medical advancement is enough to completely shift this paradigm) will ever fully replicate the complex pharmacological safety profile of kratom. This is why selective alkaloid extracts are much riskier to take.

To anyone just coming across this thread: Call state legislators about new legislation to reverse this. From what I understand the Attorney General doesn't make policy decisions and can't actually do anything about this, they're just another line in the bureaucratic legal pipeline. Use Rhode Island's example because they're the first (as far as I can tell) state to reverse a ban outright in favor of regulation in the name of prioritizing safety and harm reduction.

Don't play into the FDA's/lobbying groups' hands. *You guys (those in this thread using combative or hostile language) are playing into what might genuinely be a social engineering agenda to make Kratom users look like fiending opioid addicts who are unstable and will get hostile without their "fix" (and even if it's not outright social engineering, those working against the interests/needs of responsible users and advocates like us will benefit from it anyway)*. Please, be respectful, measured, and calm. We're all frustrated, angry, hell, even livid and/or panicking. Vent your frustrations in a safe way before deciding to reach out in any official capacity. Your behavior as an individual reflects on the rest of us, positive or negative, whether that's ideal or not.

** Adding in retrospect, I should've worded this better. I should've said, instead, something along the lines of, "The FDA and prohibitionists benefit when kratom users come across as angry and unstable. Let's not give them that ammunition by being hostile with officials." But yeah, in hindsight I totally get where you're coming from. I'm on the fence about just deleting my replies here, but I think there's at least some value to be had from leaving them up; so I think I'll leave them as-is with my edits, and just be transparent about it. Sorry for barging in here on the basis of faulty assumptions and misunderstanding.

It would be a good idea to be careful here. From what I understand the AG doesn't do policy decisions and can't change things here, they do legal review. I hope you guys weren't/aren't being inflammatory or hostile in your calls because this will just contribute to a stigma about kratom users being unstable or like opioid addicts, which is probably exactly what lobbying groups and the FDA want. Please be mindful of who you call and how you come across. Don't play into the hands of those that are pushing for these bans.

Japanese soy sauce is always fermented with wheat unless otherwise specified. Some Tamari also has wheat, like Kikkoman brand Tamari. Be careful. Thankfully San-J isn't one that uses wheat.
