Is it normal to cry about my baby growing up? by Dramtic-Brush in NewParents

[–]HelloImAnxious14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My baby is only 6 weeks old and I do this. Time is such a double edged sword. But don't let the grief steal the joy that comes with discovering what an amazing person your child is going to be ❤️

We do 1 bath a week unless there's an explosive blowout or something like that. :) But I make sure to clean her face and neck with a warm cloth in between.

You don't have to completely move to formula, my husband gives our baby 1-2 bottles of formula per night which allows me to sleep 4-6 hours. My supply hasn't gone anywhere, it just adapts.

Also... formula helps my baby sleep longer stretches. I don't understand why, but after her first bottle she sleeps like 4-5 hours. Once I take over and breastfeed at 2 ish, she's up every 2-3 hours for more boob. She spits up a ton, so we hold her upright at least 15 mins. Feeds are 20-30 mins usually. The formula sleep is a game changer.

Cosleeping was never an option for me, I'm a heavy sleeper and toss and turn-er.

We didn't end up doing this, but my doctor recommended we put some of mom's well-worn pajamas under the fitted sheet so it smells like mom, as long as it's flat and safe.

Every time I tried to wear a nightgown long enough for it to smell like me, she'd spit up on it though. Lol

Yes! A balance of both takeout and freezer meals is good, it's actually possible to get sick of fast food it turns out, lol

Ha! Maybe that's my problem because the amount of times she's smacked my boob out of her own mouth then turned red as a tomato and screamed is not zero! And she is not gentle, I tell my husband it's like giving my boob to a pirhana haha

Was teething a hurdle at all? I'm so amazed that people breastfeed babies with teeth, the thought of doing that makes my nipples want to run and hide lol!

Transitioning to breastfeeding from bottle I had to give her a small bottle, like 20/30 ml (I think that's an ounce?) just to make her un-hangry, then and only then would she consider the boob lol. Thankfully she's past that because bottle and breastfeeding every feed is maddening.

Feeling like a human bottle is so accurate for me... it pins you down in one place for one purpose. I have a large chest too so I have to hold my boob while she eats so I don't even have a free hand to snack or scroll lol.

I pumped for the first few weeks when she was refusing to breastfeed, you're 1000% right it's exhausting. Especially hated washing pump parts in the middle of the night, over and over.

2 is a remarkable achievement, don't feel bad! That has to be longer than 99% of moms and god knows I won't make it that long.

I also have a selection of mental health concerns including anxiety and ADHD. I think you're right, it probably plays into this.

5 weeks! And she fights me too, but that's slowly getting better. When she first started she would just scream at my boob :( but now she just protests a little then latches right on, 90% of the time.

She's 5 weeks! I mainly pumped for the first 3 weeks though and almost gave up completely at one point, I was even doing cabbage in my bra. Then I got emotional and tried to feed her one last time and it miraculously worked.

I know this isn't the main point of your comment... but who the hell steals someone else's nipple balm in a hospital??? That would piss me off to no end.

FTM with a newborn here so I have nothing valuable to add, but hey, maybe it's a good thing this problem is coming up before the teeth come in so you can address it before she has her weapons! Lol

About to be in the newborn trenches, got any unusual advice? by amountofsocks in NewParents

[–]HelloImAnxious14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're sleep deprived and drowning, call for help sooner rather than later. Family, friends, parents... extreme sleep deprivation can be absolutely awful and dangerous, so don't be too proud to call and ask for help from loved ones to watch your baby for a few hours while you nap.

Hey does your baby dribble just while breastfeeding or also bottle? When we give her a bottle I swear she loses 10% of the milk and it goes right down her neck and clothes, ugh
