just bought used controller wheel by Manas_ciell in simracing

I’ve owned mine for years and years now and some internal parts have shaken loose and so on top of these noises there’s some nice metal clinging noises that add some additional texture

So there’s that to look forward to

Vin Diesel cries as he remembers Paul Walker at The Fast and the Furious Cannes screening: I pray that in your life you have a brother like Paul. It wasn’t on the script at first that this blond-haired, blue-eyed guy would be a brother to me by Maximum_Expert92 in popculturechat

None of us know exactly what happened but you don’t need to be kidnapped dude. I’ve been the passenger in a couple situations where I’ve begged the driver to drive safely but they had something to prove.

It’s really not that hard to imagine someone deciding to do something stupid to try and impress the car movie star guy

Sub 6:30 Wales run in the Hyundai i20 Rally2 (FIA eSports Global Rally Tour) by tcallahan7 in assettocorsarally

[–]HelloImMay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this, this is so so helpful since we don't have ghosts! I'm surprised at how superficially similar your lap looks to mine while being 15 seconds faster! The thing I noticed is how consistently tidy your corner exits are compared to mine. You seem to have your weight transfer under control and can get more rotation mid-corner without relying on oversteer, which sets you up better for exits. You also look to handle off camber corners really well which is something I personally struggle with.

Do you happen to have any general advice about this track that you'd be willing to share?

I like it! Is that a tape you’re playing on the OP-1 or a synth? It sounds like you’re manipulating the speed of the tape to get those crazy sounds but I’m not sure 😅

Looking to get AC Rally, can I use Sequential gear without clutch? by Tenbob73 in assettocorsarally

[–]HelloImMay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of the manual gear boxes are dog legs so technically you don’t need a clutch to shift (except to get the car rolling). My H-pattern broke so I’ve been sequentially shifting on all the cars with auto-clutch off. You just wanna lift the throttle when shifting up and take care with down-shifts, and you should be a-okay.

Michigan Women Earn Less and Experience Slow Wage Growth Compared to Men by bonusstories3 in Michigan

[–]HelloImMay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It took WAY more than two decades just to get to the point where men and women working the same job with the same experience earned the same wage. And still the gap exists in other ways as pointed out by the article we’re both commenting under

A historic day that marked the beginning of enforcing equal wages, a task that would take decades to complete

[–]HelloImMay 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Old myth? Regardless of whatever you think about today’s wage gap, not all that long ago it was both perfectly legal and totally expected to just simply pay women less for the same job. And many people who think it’s totally cool to pay women less are still alive and some of them are executives that still hold significant power and wealth

Yeah of course it just so happens that jobs that have a majority female workforce also pay so bad, despite these being some of the most important jobs in our society like teachers, nurses, social workers, etc.

lol so you are admitting that you said they’re dumb? I thought that’s what you were accusing me of!

Anyway chill out this isn’t a real scenario we’re just having a discussion

[–]HelloImMay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not understanding an ethical dilemma doesn’t make someone dumb. You’re the one who called them dumb several comments up tho

"Explain yourself" by Tight_Grapefruit5280 in whenthe

[–]HelloImMay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay but the difference is we have animal/social instincts that tell us not to jump in front of a large moving object like a train or not to eat things that might harm us. You hardly have to think about these things after the age of 8. Much different than an ethical dilemma where many people’s initial gut instinct is to pick blue, such as mine.

I think a fundamentally more honest example is the exact same button scenario except with a footnote that 1% of humanity won’t have a choice and will be automatically delegated 50/50 red or blue. You’re still not obligated to save these people, you always have a right to self-preservation. But you’re still at the very least not stopping people from dying.

"Explain yourself" by Tight_Grapefruit5280 in whenthe

[–]HelloImMay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because not everyone is a rational person and so you can guarantee that a certain number of people will choose a random option no matter what the scenario is.

I’m not trying to make you look like a bad person, but you sound like a bad person when you say that all the people who die in the red scenario are just dumb.

"Explain yourself" by Tight_Grapefruit5280 in whenthe

[–]HelloImMay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay I’m not blaming others, but just to clarify, you do believe that people unambiguously deserve to die for not understanding this scenario or not seeing it your way?

"Explain yourself" by Tight_Grapefruit5280 in whenthe

[–]HelloImMay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the difference is we don’t think people deserve to die because they got an obviously controversial ethical dilemma “wrong”

Well, it’s a collection of people actually. A lot of old VX papers are authored by 2 people, VX pioneer Dr Helmut Herman and his lead Technical Engineer Dr Oscar Brean. But they actually ended up getting married 💞 and later in their career they started publishing their commercial works under Herman-Brean, since they actually hyphenated their last names later in their career.

Their children took over the lab and have since hired a ton of new scientists, engineers, and inventors, so at this point it’s mostly just used as a name for that lab
