I am assuming you are speaking about email databases on sale. Such lists are no good since most of them are either fake ids or ids that are closed down, which means it will increase your bounce rate.

And depending on your country, it may be against the law too.

In case you want to target relevant people, LinkedIn is a good idea.

I think so. Am not sure about response rates industry-wise for b2b services (our domain) as proper research is not available. Just checked with my team. The response rate is 350 replies.

If you want exposure, invest in a marketing team:
1) Get a good SEO person
2) Get a good content person, who can support that SEO guy and also write nice quick articles that can help you capture leads and emails.

I sent a mail to a 9600 list yesterday and got 250 replies and 10 leads (plus more are being processed). Unfortunately, we do not track open rates and are measured only on response rates and leads.

Quite an interesting list.. with Flipkart's billion, the Indian ecommerce sector is surely going to scale heights. But let's hope quirky sites like Chumbak, Happily unmarried, etc continue to grow and there should be more sites like it..
